You are correct. The original has a pounding piano with a woman naked in a bathtub to get more views. This arrangement by Angelina has a subdued guitar and a 12 year old girl in a plaid shirt sitting on a couch and reading the lyrics from her cell phone. Watch all of her hand movements and facial expressions as she emotes what becomes a total love song. Better than the original? No question!
This is a perennial candidate for Angelina's best performance, and that is saying a lot. Sitting on a couch, reading the lyrics off a phone, one take, just sick.
When Angelina is with this guitarist, she is always 12 years old. He only worked with her for one very productive year. ❤👣
Her guitarist Ivan Mendez talked about this one in his interview with Alan Papier: he said her final "Stays" were the most beautiful thing he had ever heard.... if you watch his face during the video you will see how moved he was by her voice.

Not to mention , Ivan was only given the song 15 mins before and had perhaps only one run through with Angelina , who usually just reads the words. This is spontaneous brilliance by both of them .
And she's READING THE LYRICS!! And still staying perfectly on pitch and in time, and infusing the massive emotion into the song that it requires, and adding her own touches, all in one take with no rehearsal, while sitting on a couch in some room in a house, with zero studio enhancements or production, and still sounding better than the original! The dictionary does not have enough words to describe this beautiful, brilliant, powerful yet gentle force of nature.
It has always been the magic of Angelina that she is able to emote lyrics that other singers including original singers fail to do with their own songs.❤❤❤❤❤

No one and I mean NO ONE does better runs, vocally, than Angelina. You should react to her singing The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, this same age and sitting. Just heartwrenching.
Remember with all these songs she sung on couch with a guitar player...all only practiced once, and then take two is what you see and hear!
Most of these were the first full recording. The guitarist said if they had to do a second take, it was due to his errors not hers.
I want a compilation CD of all these simple minimal production covers. Gimme NOW!

Boudy, I hope your back is not causing you as much pain. I can't recall any reactor who said they liked Rhianna's version of "Stay" better than this one by 12 year old Angelina. Being a Angelina angel requires incredible patience. Thankfully we have hundreds of videos to keep us entertained. We have no idea what the plan is for the release of her first full album on Republic or when or where her next concert will be. There is no reason to complain about it, because it falls on deaf ears. For me, what matters most is, Angelina appears happy and productive.
Angelina and Ivan Mendez her guitarist in L.A. at the age of 12. These were jam sessions that they would do in the evening. Angelina would pick a song and Ivan would practice the cords then Angelina would say follow me. What is amazing is she is reading the lyrics and just kills this song! An amazing young lady and a consummate professional! 🇳🇴🇺🇸 One of her birthday presents when she turned 12 was the microphone!
Well said. Ivan Mendez interview by Alan papier explains their process as you describe. He would visit and socialize with the family before even getting to the music. They would usually complete the song in just one take.
Totally unreal performance from a 12-year old girl. This would be an outstanding performance from any adult also.
This is an example of absolute, total and almost overpowering emotion.
Perhaps the fact that she sang a number of these classics (strange to talk about classics for an 18 year old) at her Las Vegas concerts indicates she may be trying that particular strategy already? She does appear to have a strong team behind her.

Angelina is such a great storyteller: You really can see in your mind what she sings.
I watched an interview with the guitar player. He just met her that day didn't know the song listened to it one time played it back as best he could then they recorded it. And his reaction as she's singing is of awe. It was recorded here in Orange County California not Norway.

Yes, you have hit the nail on the head with an LP of covers including a couple of her originals, she needs to be on the radio in the mainstream although I give credit to AJ for staying true to her roots she should have 50 million followers.

Beautiful, soaring dreamlike vocals from a 12 year old! Fantastic from start to finish, the first Angelina video I ever saw, and still my overall favorite for its incredible simplicity, just Ivan on the guitar and an angel from heaven on the mic. So glad you touched on the beautiful cracks and quirks in her voice, very much on display here, that make her the best vocalist we have going. Thanks again for another great reaction Boudy!

AM, Ivan Mendez her guitarist in L.A. recorded several jam sessioms with Angelina at her family home in LA. Angelina would pick a song and Ivan would paractice the cords and Angelina would start singing reading the lyrics off a screen. The magic begains and they both become one with the song, especially Ivan facial expression of joy lost in Angelina's captivating voice.
The most astonishing thing about this song is that she most likely did it in one take, and it was recorded with a cell phone. It’s on my top Angelina songs list as are most of the ones these two did together.
She could do Bohemian Rhapsody, Suspicious Minds, Stay, You Say, Born To Die, Unchained Melody, and as change of pace, Feeling Good, It’s A Man’s World, Cry Me A River, Diamonds Are Forever, Faded, and Born To Die, Then Shield, A Million Miles and Finaly Diamonds. ❤❤❤

When you said, at one point, "you don't miss the harmony," I think you hit on one of the most distinctive qualities of Angelina's singing. She creates, in real time, her own harmonies as she sings. Her swoops, vibratos, quavers, etc, all create a kind of rich, layered effect as though she is singing harmony simultaneously with the melody--all without overdubbing. And she's synaesthetic--she resonates across time, layering sounds, emotion, colors, dynamics, rhythm-- all varying and reinforcing each other at once

Not only 12 but this was only the second or third time she had sung it. These jam sessions with Ivan are a treasure house, just watch his face. Her musical instinct is a one off.
I like your idea of the "blended" album concept, mixing in covers with originals using the same sound design, instrumentation, and style of arrangement to create a singular, cohesive sound for a particular album. Then, the next one could be different and unique as well, and just keep creating albums that showcase her versatility over time. I've also thought that since she's already written over 100 songs with so far 13 that she has recordings of, if you go back to when she was about 11 with "What is Life?", that she could release an album of original music every couple of years, and in between, release an album of covers of songs, any of which, original or cover, could chart really well, maybe even #1's, that before she's even 40, she could have a catalog of recordings of impeccable quality that would shame most artists, let alone possibly a "live" recording of her in concert! Think about it, Adele, a tremendous songwriter and singer, has put out 4 total albums in her career...and she's considered one of the very best, period. What would Angelina be able to do? She could blow everyone out of the water. The older greats, like Sinatra, or Fitzgerald could put out two albums a year, and their concerts were events!!

You just found my all-time favorite recording from Angelina - one of which I never tire. BTW, she received that wonderful Neumann TL 102 mike in April of 2018. She had turned 12 on January 10. That mike made a world of difference in her recordings. She has since upgraded to the TLM 103, but now usually uses an old, huge, 1950's-era studio mike that probably belongs to Universal or Rob Christie, and may have a better dynamic range - which is needed for her voice.

She just redid this song in Vegas If you get James Theils video or Big Angie fans you'll get the best version of it and this may be more impactful because of seeing such a young person emote so powerfully but remember also 😇 na just turned 18 which is exceptionally young for the uncanny emotion she portrays at Westgate She did have to navigate through 38 songs lol be on a stage she's been waiting to perform on half her life Some think this was the better version Her performances at Westgate are top of the line on the same level as Adele or any past or present artist so it's not fair to compare her with herself

I must must must say, if you have not seen Alan Papier`s interview with this lucky guy, Ivan, in the video, you should definitely do so, as soon as you get a few minutes of free time. He tell us all about how he was contacted by Angelina`s family, and how these videos of 2018 came to be made and released.
And Angelina`s norwegian "guy", - Egil Clausen, spoke to Alan as well, about HIS experiences with Angelina through several years (and still going on occationaly), and theire collaboration in videos, as well as in conserts and performances.
These interviews are treasures almost to the level of theire music videos with Angelina. They will put you in a state of joy and awe.
They are both to be found on Alan`s channel. Of course 🤨 Stay safe and well B. As we await THE album 🤗

Great reaction to an even greater performance 🙂 This is definitely up there among her very best performances IMO. And I think you're quite right about the way the market works today. It NOTHING like it used to be, even only 15 years ago. You gotta be ON the ball to PLAY the ball and score. I have a feeling you've lost trust in RR's marketing of her, which is very easy to do, and I have been thinking the same at times. But then I think NAH.... They HAVE to know what they have on their hands in her, and they HAVE to have a plan. She can easily be one of the more "lucrative" artists they have tbh. After all, in the biz, when everything is said and done, MONEY is the driver. Pretty much everywhere, not just the music industry. She IS working on her debut album, and I have a feeling that we will see a massive change with that. Nowadays, perhaps even more so than in the past, all it really takes to "make" it is ONE song. Then the social platforms like TT and all the others will do the job for her. Vegas everynody was talking about her shows. If you have not already done it her official short documentary ANGELINA JORDAN 10 YEARS IN THE MAKING. Not only has it great Vegas gootsge, her voice over, it has the clip of her singing with the mike as an 18 month old baby. Her matinée and evening concert had between them 40 songs.
