I lived in Burton upon Stather and was knocked of my feet by the explosion. As a kid it was quite exciting as we were all evacuated because of the huge chemical cloud after the explosion.
I then ran into the house where another child was lying covered in blood. I picked the child up put him into the car and then raced as quickly as I could to Scunthorpe Hospital some 3 miles away. There is a newspaper clipping of my wife and I arriving at the hospital..we were both 24 years old. Both children recoverd.
This is what happens when you only develop the manufacture processes but fail to develop and implement safety measures/technology bro match the danger posed by the manufacturing process. As always, they focussed on the money side of things and not the safety side.
Fucking hell. See, when people bitch about OSHA these days I just tell then to check shit like this, Los Alfaques, Abbystead, and the Summerland disaster. What happens when we don't fucking keep on top of it is stuff like the horrific tragedy of Grenfell.
I was there that day..I waas driving across the iron bridge when my car was rocked by an explosion. A mushroom shaped cloud rose high in the air..I turned right and headed into the nearest village. I saw a man covered in blood run out from the church and then collapse in the road. Next a woman came out of a house carrying a small child, she was screaming help us please help us. I stopped and grabbed the child and placed her on the back seat of my car.
The Flixborough disaster happened on 1st of June 1974, NOT 1975.
