I really love the sound of the old Yamaha SK20, but the lack of MIDI and CV control meant that it was never used as much as I wanted to use it. Well, Tubbutec comes to the rescue, because they have developed and have on offer a MIDI upgrade kit, that will make it possible for your Yamaha SK15, SK20, SK30 or SK50D to have MIDI capabilities! Now that's something well worth exploring :)
In this video I show step by step the installation process, and initial "signs of life" testing. In the follow up video, I will be doing a user guide and in-depth testing of the Tubbutec upgrade kit, to see what it can offer to the Yamaha SK owners.
Thank you for watching and if you liked the video, like and subscribe :)

it's so good that these old bits of kit can now be retro fitted with midi, I really wish I had kept my Juno 6 as they do a mod for that too!

I loved watching this, it's a pleasure to see you so excited! I haven't soldered anything in a long time so that was a nice little bit of nostalgia for me. 😉 The rest I know basically nothing about but I do love synth music and it was really cool to see the inside of the keyboard and watch you install the KAC. Looking forward to the next video!

I found the tubbutec kit like a year ago now, but I've been so afraid of doing the surgery... you 've definetely infected me with your enthusiasm and now I need to do it!!! Many thanks for the video. This is insane xO....

It is an "involved procedure", but if you are careful and most importantly, you take your time, it should all work fine. Just be careful when desoldering and removing the IC, and remember that in the 70's they used thick, real pieces of metal, so drilling those holes is a bit of a chore. Good luck!

Of course I do! Especially when doing electrical stuff, as they are made of rubbery kind of thing that makes me accumulate far less static electricity 😁

What’s going on with your eye, buddy? It looks a bit swollen. Hope you are well.

It's the opposite, when tired, my left eye goes squinty. So, just tired, nothing else :)
