Nolan only filled in for Nathan because nathan was busy with his show. Nolan even said in an interview that if they asked him to play cayde again he would say no.

I love both performances. Though Nathan Fillion has the slight edge here.
I also like both but I think that Nolan sounds more like a Deadpool version of Cayde because he played Deadpool and Nathan was good because he was funny in a natural way.

Regardless of whether or not the idea was for sales, the storyline was great and made the best storyline of all the dlc's
You know what’s funny.....so Nolan North plays Cayde-6 (Nathan Fillions character) for forsaken and Nathan Fillion plays Nathan Drake (Nolan Norths character) in the live action “movie”. How funny is that. Also Cayde sounds like Nathan Drake. Since cayde and Nathan were similar in away with their personalities.
And Nathan Fillion now plays Officer Nolan on The Rookie.

Nathan sounds like he's a natural being Cayde. Like..he IS Cayde-6.
Nolan sound like he's *trying* a bit. You can almost hear the unnatural higher pitch in voice to grasp that comedic view of Cayde we all know and love
They sound nearly the same, and that is the point. Cayde-6's is a well loved character with a well loved voice. Changing that voice risks people getting detached from the character and given what happens to Cayde in Forsaken, the impact needed to not be diminished.
Finding this video and this comment after the release of The Final Shape hits different :(

They sound pretty much the same, but Nathans voice just seemed more natural to the character, maybe just because thats how I'm used to him sounding

The biggest irony is that Nathan wasn't available to voice Cause because he was busy playing Nathan Drake (you know, the character Nolan voices) in an Uncharted short film.

Even if he was doing the show the rookie im honestly confused. He could have easily gone to a nearby recording studio and finished up pretty quick. My guess is that he wasn’t happy with the money or something. It’s honestly not that hard to make time for just voice acting.
Nolan did a good job and if you didn't know it was a different voice actor then you couldn't tell. But during forsaken if you had a sharp ear you could tell the difference. I just don't know why they didn't have Nathan finish the job.

Yeah I didn’t hear any of the news about it. I later found out Nolan North took over the roll. I honestly couldn’t tell at all.
During the making of forsaken, Nathans contract with bungie was up, and yes he was busy with the show 9-1-1, which is why bungie gave nolan the role for caydes last stand.

They replaced Nathan? I didn't even know. Never got Destiny 2. Damn, they replace everyone with Nolan North. I remember they dis the same thing with the ghost. I love Nolan though.
Due to his new show, he is unavailable to continue to voice Cayde which is why Nolan North stepped in for the Forsaken DLC, he nailed his character too

There are very subtle differences. Cayde was always a bit of a jokester but I felt it more in Nolan Norths performance. Nathan’s Cayde had a hint more of a deeper sound to it.
I had no idea until now that it *wasnt* Fillion in Forsaken. Nolan is incredibly talented.
Nearly identical. Just that I'm used to the old cayde voice. Like the old ghost voice for those who remember.
To be honest I didn't even know Nolan voiced him in foresaken until someone told me 😂
Fun fact: the “maybe eat a sandwich” bit was a reference of when Nathan had double hernia surgery, so he would come home, eat a sandwich, and pretty much stay up till 3 AM playing Halo

As good as North did, Fillion’s voice is just too iconic. Made me kinda sad that my favorite actor couldn’t even voice his character’s final lines in the most impactful moment in Destiny
I didn’t even notice the voice actor change on my first run through the forsaken campaign. Had never even knew that Fillion left. Only on my third-ish run wayyyyy later (after playing through the red war campaign again) did I notice that Cayde’s voice was a bit off. Props to Nolan North though for making a pretty spot on impression of Fillion. It of course helps that the exo-voice-changer and great writing also assisted in selling the Cayde “feel”
The voice may not be an exact match, but it's the personality that counts.
Nolan north actually does a really good impression of cayde-6. Glad cayde-6 fell into the right hands.

I find it funny how Deadpool and Cayde6 have a lot in common and the fact Nolan North voices Deadpool before just makes it’s hella fitting he voiced Cayde even if it was just a stand in role at the time

Nah, that was Nathan for Ace in the hole. And I’m glad they got him to do those lines which give me a feeling he did those way before forsaken was announced.

I find it hard to understand how Nolan is also the voice of Dr. Edward Richtofen.

Nathan Fillion’s voice is iconic and can never truly be replaced by anyone.
Nolan North is quite possibly one of the most gifted voice actors to ever grace the media, might've not done a perfect replication of Nathan's Cayde but still impressive how many impressions he can do.
Honestly both did an amazing job on cayde mad props to nolan for making him sound so similar that people couldn't even tell unless told
Nolan is a master of impressions. They said that when they were recording lines for the stealing stasis mission, they wanted Drifter's actual VA. He wasn't available due to the curse of 2020, so they had Nolan try. Nolan's impression of The Drifter is supposedly so good that they instead asked him to be ghost pretending to be drifter
For anyone that doesn't know, Nathan voiced Cayde for D1, D2 Vanilla, and The Final Shape. Nolan only did it back in the opening mission of Forsaken.
Nolan did great but no one can ever truly compare to Nathan’s performance
It took me looking up the cast for the voices of Destiny to realize that Nolan North voiced Foresaken-Cayde.

I'ma be honest here I honestly could not tell that was Nolan North. He does a great Nathan Fillion impression.
The day forsaken came out I could tell it wasn't Nathan, you can tell Nolan is a bit deeper and sounds more tense while Nathan is higher and it comes out really smooth.
Short little things like that are really useful sometimes when you can't quiet place whether a voice has changed thanks for that. I had a feeling it was castle in the first set of trailers / game and then when this last trailer came out for the DLC I was unsure it sounded similar but not quite. So again thanks for taking the time to do it. Did Nolan North also continue playing the ghost?

Playing Forsken for the first time and I didn't actually notice the change. But a side-by-side comparison is where you spot the difference. It's subtle, but there.

It's funny. I don't think I ever would have noticed that Nolan was doing Cayde in "Forsaken" if I hadn't heard about it. But when you compare them side by side and I know it's Nolan, I can hear the difference.

I like how everyone is saying they sound exactly the same and that they couldn’t tell the difference, but I’m so used to searching up voice actors and recognising some in other shows and films that I could tell that wasn’t Nathan Fillion straight away.

Both of them are too identical, we love them both.
I now hear Cliffjumper from Fall of Cybertron when I hear Nathan Fillion Cayde talk. Both characters were my favorites from the franchises
I feel like they made his voice more lovable and comedic with Nolan, but, if I wasn’t told who was who and you showed me both clips I would have no idea who’s who.
FYI Nolan had to also cover the voice for the drifter for one of the beyond light missions and they had to have it tone it down a bit because in game he was supposed to do a impression but it was said he sounded exactly like the voice actor of the drifter. So he needed to make it sound more like a impression

It's easiest to tell the difference when North is annunciating particular syllables. Fillion's voice gets slightly raspy when he's emphasising while North's voice gets softer.

The only time it was ever noticeable to me was during the "Ace In the Hole" mission. I seriously thought they had Fillion do the lines during "Last Call" for months.

There's subtle differences. Nathan flows in his words where as Nolan you can hear the pause in him trying to imitate Nathan. That being said he does a really good job with it, they sound really close and if you weren't listening for it you could miss it.
