    I just ran the same tests on my new suzuki df25. 11 pitch stock. I also got the exact same speed with a 12 pitch Solas as stock. I used way more fuel and had less performance with the solas prop. I weighed these 2 props, and the the stock prop was 2.2 pounds and the solas was over 2.4. The difference in partial, is the rake on the Suzuki prop is different. My motor had plenty of power to turn the Solas, but for some reason got the same speed as the 11. I'm staying with suzuki props even at the higher price. Don't believe it's your motor, try a Suzuki and you will be surprised. Your engine also will get more power as you approach 25 hrs.

      Your rpms were probly lower on the 12p makes your engine work harder... if you lost 250 rpm thats why probly the same speed and increase in fuel consumption.

    Hey man. I just got my first boat and trailer in middle of COVID (April 30th- 16ft v-haul aluminum). No way to get them registered (DMV being closed) yet. Big part of me buying Suzuki 9.9 was your first video. Got myself a Suzuki DF9.9BTHL2 (electric start and and power tilt model). For some reason this motor came with 4 blade, 10" dia and 5" pitch. After some my own research, I bought same prop in this video as upgrade. I'm going to break it in according to owner's manual with OEM prop and post you my finding after I do the upgrade. Hopefully DMV open soon...

    Hi! Can you please tell us how big the difference is when using the 9.9 ECU VS the 20hp ECU? Is It only the rmp that is higher, or do you feel the extra power all the Way?

  • @beet3870
    @beet3870 4 роки тому +6

    11 pitch is too much for a 9,9. But you have the “upgradable” 9,9 motor, that can easily be upgraded to 15 or 20hp, which suits a 11 propeller better.

    • @laingej
      @laingej  4 роки тому +1

      Yes im saving the 11 prop for when i turn it in to a 20hp .. i need to make new video ..showing how i drilled the restrictor plate a little so now have more power guessing 12hp and im running 21 mph

    • @beet3870
      @beet3870 4 роки тому +1

      LaingEj you can also fully remove the restrictor plate. Will give you the power of a 20hp, but you may hit the rev limiter (because you have a 9,9 ecu).

    • @laingej

      @manylandy_fan i know i tried .. i left the restrictor plate and drilled center hole little by littlet till i get now almost 5700rpm and 21 mph. I do hit redline with the 9” prop sometimes and 4900 rpm with the 11” pitch and same speed 21mph

Saving for a 9.9 . How much is the kit to change 9.9 to 20 Hp. Love your son trying it out . Happy New year Johnnie

    How do you know the rpm? Adjusting the pitch by 1 inch adjusts the motor’s WOT RPM by 150-200 RPM. for suzuki 9.9 optimal rpm is 4,700-5,700 so 9 should be perfect

      @@laingej Yes, you can overcome hull speed with more hp. But there is not a direct ratio. The law of diminishing returns. Double the hp and increase speed a third. Double again and you might get another third. Double again, and you explode!
