- Richmond Town Square or better known as the Richmond Mall was opened in September 1966 at the northeast corner of Richmond and Wilson Mills Roads in Richmond Heights, Ohio. With three anchor tenants and over 90 specialty stores at its peak, it was one of the most popular shopping destinations in Northeast Ohio. In this video we take a deep dive into the mall's history until its closure on May 16, 2021.

Oh wow - this video made me emotional. I'm going to miss Richmond Mall. Great documentary!
It was turning all ( GHETTO ) lots of crime ..!! Worked for the city maintaining the mall
Great lakes Mall is getting to be same way.. ( drugs theft ) I'm surprised it's still standing
I miss this mall many memories w my family and dad. I didn't pay attention when they closed it I would of gone for one last walk down memory road. It did suffer from crime n thugging. Most people in the are went to beachwood place.
My first job as a young scrapping 17 year old boy was at Villa Pizza in the food court. Worked for two other stores in the mall over the years as well. Was also apart of the first employee group and launch of the Ruby Tuesdays connected to the mall in 2000. I miss those days.
I remember seeing The dirty dozen, Fantastic voyage and so many other movies there, also shopped at Sears, JCP, Woolworths, and Dick krozz Stamps and coins. mid 60's till the 90's, RIP Richmond Mall.
I remember when Wilson Mills Road was a mess from Richmond Road to I-271.
I will miss Richmond mall. So many beautiful memories shopping there with my grandma. We actually shopped there in 2017 not long before she passed away. I will miss driving from akron to Cleveland to take my granny shopping. All of my favorite malls are gone. Chapel hill, Randell park, severance mall. I personally like Richmond mall layout before they remodeled it. I enjoyed eating at the harvest house next to Woolworths!!
Thank you for this video. The mall of my youth. I worked at Foxmoor in the '70s until I turned 19 and got a job in an office. So many great stores and memories of my youth and friends.
Well done history of an important development in the area at the time. I was 12 in 1966 when it opened and lived 1/4 mile from Richmond Mall in Lyndhurst, so this really brings back memories! The mall was like our playground as kids, it was the place to meet and have fun! Saw many many movies there, bought 45's and albums at Record Rendezvous and Penny's, greaser clothes at Bill's Clothes, corn beef sandwiches at Diamond's, Woolworth's lunch counter, La Petite Cafe, the coin shop on the 2nd floor mezzanine, and Regal shoes! The original fountain was awesome, the view from the mezzanine on a busy Saturday was tremendous., what a place! To think that I have witnessed the entire life cycle of a mall makes me feel well, old 😄
Back in the 70's, my mom would drop us off there just about every Saturday....all our friends hung out there, it was a blast. We lived about a mile away and would walk or ride our bikes to the mall all the time, everyone shopped there, it was a big deal and a huge part of my childhood....The Arcade was the place to be for my friends and I, played Space Invaders for the first time etc....Sad seeing it end now......Thank you for the video!
Great job, my fellow Ohioan! Keep them coming, brother!
Thank you!
I really want to miss that mall and the movie theater too😢
Thank you for the video. Sad it has closed. There were many good memories there.
You're welcome, glad you enjoyed it and the memories it brought back.
@@RailroadStreet It did, I remember Woolworths and the restaurant it had inside and Teddys.
When living in Euclid in the late 1980s, I regularly went to Richmond Mall. I was very sorry to see it close, but I hope that the new development revitalizes the area.
So crazy my first job was here worked there for years.
I used to live a few blocks from Richmond Mall. Totally took me back. I totally forgot about the bootleg Mickey Mouse the Loews used to rock. That was on the East end by the old Fun N Games. I used to practically live there.
I was 16 when they opened ,,,put my first work aplecation at jc pennys,,,those were the days ,,aint been there since 2011
Fantastic video; very informational!
I remember going here for back to school shopping things, it was fun. I think they are developing it like Pinecrest near Pepper Pike. I can’t wait to see what it is going to look like
Amazing video! I am a local, and some of these facts I didn't even know such as the opening date, I knew it opened in 66 but I did not know the month and day. Keep making more content like this, it is amazing and very entertaining! To me, at least. Also, thanks for the credit through 7:49 to 8:09! Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it! And thank you for letting me use some of your images in the video!
i just drove past there today
This was a fantastic video. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you!
Trip down memory lane.
in the 70s and 80s I went to Richmond Mall so much with my grandma who would pick up here JC Penny catalog orders there.
No mater where they are located, something inside me loves dead or dying malls. Nice video!
I had so many great memories in this mall
This is is really a great 👍video uploading 👌. Hope you're OK. Have a lovely Sunday.
Thank you very much!
I was a teen in the 80's and would ride my bike down Wilson Mills to go shopping there, and kill time, on Saturdays.
Omg, I grew up in south Euclid I used to go there all the time.. I had no idea it went out of business. Well there goes my childhood..
My father was lead architect for Glaser and Marotta for several years in the 60's. I was married in '67 and received a silver water pitcher from the Marottas. I had purchased my wedding dress at the J.C. Penny store in Richmond Mall! Loads of memories in this video for me. Thank you!
We want the Movie theater back at Richmond
Harvest House; Woolworth’s; Mar Lou Shoes upstairs;Hough Bakery
back in the late sixties and early '70s big shopping malls were opening up everywhere. that was the way of the future. who would have thought that 50 years later they would start becoming obsolete. 😢
I used to go there
You're Awesome dude
this mall fell in disrepair and the area turned into the ghetto
While malls like this are nostalgic to my and maybe my parents’ generation, they really were unsustainable blots on the landscape as part of 1960s sprawl. Goes to show you how more resilient classic “main street” style development is over modern car-centric suburbia
I Live in side Richmond Heights
i wonder why
Thank you so much for the video. My grandpa had owned the 70acre apple orchard.
Wow it finally closed
Yep, it closed on May 16th. The developers just completed the sale back on July 22nd.
@@RailroadStreet who bought it
@@RailroadStreet and it's the movie theater still open
Yes, the Regal Cinemas is still open. DealPoint Merrill bought it. They are a Los Angeles Commercial Real Estate Brokerage & Management Industry Company. It's going to be redeveloped as a mixed-use site, i.e. luxury apartments, and retail space etc.
@@RailroadStreet that's awesome
