ships zig zag for a couple of reasons, one to avoid weather situations, and two for timing getting in line with other ships to dock. The depth of the waters is basically an underwater roadway and some spots is 'one lane' so timing is important to ships meeting their destination. There is a medical center on the ship that you could have checked with for the patches.
@@vickenator - I've been on a cruise ship that had to make an emergency turn, they heel enough to dump everything off horizontal surfaces, and empty the swimming pools onto the Lido Deck.
The infirmaries on cruise ships give out over-the-counter Meclizine HCL, which Eric got (Bonine and Dramamine Less Drowsy are the same medication). Scopolamine Transdermal Patches require a prescription from a medical doctor and have to be obtained from a licensed pharmacy. Scopolamine isn't immediately effective and you should start a regimen using it before you get on the ship.
@@vickenator - Again merely responding to the original comment by Janet F. about (Scopolamine) "patches" being given out at the ship's medical center. The only thing I have ever seen given away on cruises or ferries is OTC Meclizine (which is marketed under many trade names. Transdermal Scop is fairly expensive st $6 to $8 a patch (one patch is effective for 72 hours) with GoodRX, so even if it were OTC, I doubt the cruise ships would be passing it out like candy (yes they usually have Meclizine in a dish outside the infirmary). That being said my comments were made in general and may be helpful to other people (or Eric for that matter) going on future cruises. Also Eric knew he suffers from motion sickness and has for several years. And before I get some overly literal person responding, I said Meclizine is given for free on cruise ships... I have also seen some cruise ships and ferries selling Dramamine Original (Dimenhydrinate), but I would recommend avoiding its use. due to many possible side effects.
Hi Eric, I suffer from motion sickness. I had the same issues on my first cruise. On the second one, took something called Bonine before getting on the ship and made sure to take it based on the instructions on the package. 20 cruises later, knock on wood, no issues. If you take another cruise, try another short one with a different cruise line, I believe it will help.
@@CJ30123 he said he was taking dramamine, Bonine uses a different ratio of meclizine and doesn't make you as drowsy as Dramamine. from experience bonine works way better for myself than dramamine ever did when I was younger.
The chairs and umbrellas are free and do not have to be booked in advance. The private cabanas do have to be booked ahead. We love to snorkle and see all the sunken treasure and the water isn't super deep but it is at least 5-6 feet deep once you get out away from the beach.
Sorry your having a tough time with motion sickness. I’m the same way . Here are some hints , put on the patch about four hours before you even step on the ship and keep reapplying as directed, stay away from the windows while eating, and lastly try to stay away from very fatty foods while the ship is moving.
My husband was in the Canadian Navy and always had motion sickness when they first sailed. He said for you to find the centre of the ship and stay there. It has less rocking which will ease your sickness.
Thanks for showing us all the beauty of the islands......My husband spent 20 years on a ship and we were so thankful he had no problem with sea sickness...glad you found something to calm the problem
Wow Eric! Thank you for taking us along. I stopped cruising for a while, but your trip has inspired me to book another cruise soon. I would have never thought to book a Disney cruise but the ship looks glorious. The private island looked amazing as well. I’m glad we get to experience your rv travels, and I’m also glad you switch it up sometimes and take us on a different experience. Give love to the kitties and thanks again.
The medicine they gave you is the same as Bonine. It is what I have used when needed. My wife and I have been on many cruises (Carnival, Norwegian, Royal Carribean), and love it. I hope you will give it another try. As another person said, start taking the Bonine before you get on the boat. Thanks for the video!
Since you get sea sickness easily, the next time you go on a cruise, book your accommodation as near as you can get to the center of the ship (width wise & top to bottom). There will not be as much "rocking" motion as there is around the perimeter.
I have been on to one week long each carnival cruises and love them both. I’m so glad I don’t get motion sickness as a private pilot that would not work. On the first cruise I gained 10 pounds in seven days and on the second cruise I worked hard to not gain weight and still gained 7 pounds in seven days. You have to realize I only weigh 160 so that should tell you the food was very good. Sorry you’re having to deal with the motion sickness Eric.
I’m assuming you discovered all the loungers and hammocks are available to anyone on the Castaway Cay beaches? Only the cabanas have to be rented and they’re very expensive, imo, and hard to get. And, it takes a minute to figure out how the lights work with your key card in the cabin. 😊 Hope you enjoyed the cruise, overall.
I have an inner ear disorder called, Meniere’s Disease. I get seasick just looking at the water. 🤢 I found that my inner gyroscope, gets turned around from the boat turns, and you can’t find North. Which makes you nauseous. It’s not just a nausea, that makes up seasickness. It’s the dizzies and the vertigo that goes with it..and the last thing you want to smell is, salt air. It just makes your glands water more. Love the videos, hope to see ya on the road.
Hi Seasick, er I mean Eric. Man that blows that you were seasick for most of the cruise. A little tip if I may. Buy yourself some Meclizine, this is what they gave you the last night and you did not get sick. You can buy it OTC (over the counter) no prescription needed. I give it to my rescue dog 25mg. because he gets wicked motion sickness when we go somewhere. He drools like no tomorrow and this works very well. You can buy it on Amazon. 50mg for an adult person to start. It works well. I keep a bottle of tablets in my F-150 just in case. I used to suffer from Vertigo and the Meclizine works great. Glad you were able to enjoy some of the cruise. Nice video by the way.
Back in my Navy days, decades ago. I was on a very small destroyer. Whenever rough seas were expected, we would wear Scopolamine patches behind the ear. You had to put them on a day to a day and a half prior to expected rough seas. They worked pretty good. The patches did not work for everyone though . I remember one time I was so sick I was kissing the ground when we got into port. I heard Scopolamine was discontinued. I don’t believe there was a safety issue with them. Sorry that the Dramamine didn’t help you. I still hope your trip was enjoyable. I thank you for letting us tag along. Give those adorable kitties a hug from me. Take care Eric.
Do you remember in the movie Sixteen Candles when they were eating quiche. Dong asked "How do you spell it?" & the funny grandfather said "You don't spell it, son. You eat it." It doesn't matter how you say the names of the places. You just enjoy it! And, enjoy it you did. You are so fun & I wish I could go on a vacation with you. Who were the 2 dudes you were with? Were they people you already knew or did you meet them on the ship? I was just wondering. They were pretty mellow too. This was great, Eric. Thank you! Where are we off to next?
Eric the patches I have used while deep sea fishing require a prescription. Don’t be discouraged on cruising again. Next time take a 3-4 day mexico cruise out of long beach but get the patch. You will be pleasantly surprised. I’ve suffered from motion sickness since childhood. Safe Travels Amigo
It hardly seems that it has been nearly 20 years, but I went on a cruise with my family. My roommate, was my poor nephew.. When the towel animals began appearing, I would leave a note for him and built a storyline from day-to-day, based on what animal came next. Each day, I would hide the new towel animal. Needless to say, the last morning, there was a towel bombardment and a tip for the maid service.
I was on a cruise ship once where they did a man overboard drill. Those were steep turns and quickly so you would have noticed them Eric. Aside from the sickness I hope you enjoyed it.
Cruising with a boatload of toddlers on board does not sound appealing at all...lmaoooooo 🤣🤣🤣 You needed to take a singles cruise on carnival dude wth 😬🥴

This series was fun to watch. Hopefully, you figured out how to prevent sea sickness. Loved the "days sober " shirt. I hope you don't wait 5 years before your next cruise.
Go to the medical center onboard for patches. They will have. Here’s some info I bet you didn’t know. The lifeboats are in the Disney “yellow” color. They had to get special permission from the coast guard to have that color used. Pretty cool. Nothing Disney can’t get if they want!
Hey Eric!!! Glad you didn't get sick the last day, was probably the medicine. Really enjoyed the cruise videos and the fun you had with saying the different names, ha. One place to put on your Dole Whip route trip when you come back across America is a city near me, Lebanon, Indiana! It's a place on the square called Paradise Ice Cream & Ice Cream Shop. While there, you can stop in at the courthouse on the square that has the largest single limestone pillars in the world! Not to mention the excellent marble floors inside and classic light up dome roof at night. Enjoy your travels!
Next time you will know to take meds before you get seasick. Bonine works great. Start taking it the day before. The patch would also be good for you but it is a prescription. Try it one more time with taking meds to prevent it. There are so many places to see on ships. The other lines are a lot cheaper.
Like you those wristbands and Dramamine does nothing but I will say when I put the patch behind my ear three days before my cruise that’s what worked but if I don’t start it three days before the cruise that doesn’t help either

Probably not a cruise I would take, bu then I'm not you. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself and apparently found the cure for your sea sickness. Keep the good stuff coming.
I'm a picky eater I would have to pick out what I wanted to eat. And I'm not fish or seafood yeah you can get parasites I get it's the raw. I am so glad you had fun, you can tell he's a little chance that boat rocking I wouldn't do too well on that either. But now you got to get back get you some stuff stacked back and get ready cuz our country is about ready to pull one.
