THE BASICS ABOUT CASTAWAY CAY, BAHAMAS
Castaway Cay is Disney Cruise Line’s private island in the Bahamas. So, the only way to visit the island is to book a cruise that calls in this exclusive Bahamas port of call.
Unlike some other cruise line private islands, Castaway Cay has a pier. Thus, cruisers can just walk ashore from the ship. Once on the island, you can choose to walk or take a complimentary tram. There are four tram stops around the island.
Further, you can spend the entire day ashore without spending any money! There are several things to do on the island that will not cost you a dime.
WHAT'S INCLUDED ON DISNEY'S CASTAWAY CAY
Disney's Castaway Cay has several stretches of long sandy beach for you to have a day of fun in the sun.
Family Beach is the largest of the beaches. Here, you will find plenty of lounge chairs, colorful umbrellas, and hammocks scattered throughout the area. This is also where you will find many of the activities like watercraft rentals, snorkeling, and swimming.
Serenity Bay Beach is the adults only area on Disney’s Castaway Cay. This area is reserved exclusively for guests 18+ and is located the furthest away from the ship. Serenity Bay features most of the same amenities as Family Beach just minus the kids.
While at Disney’s Castaway Cay, you are bound to get hungry…and thirsty! Luckily, there are plenty of food and drink options located on this private island. Most of these items are complimentary, minus the bars. There are three food stations on the island that serve a free buffet-style BBQ lunch with plenty of tasty options.
Of course, if you want an adult beverage, the island has some bars as well. Though, these drinks will cost you extra money.
THINGS TO DO ON DISNEY'S CASTAWAY CAY
If your idea of fun isn't lounging on a beach all day, Disney's Castaway Cay offers plenty of activities to keep cruisers busy as well.
You can book excursions for parasailing, fishing charters, and glass bottom boat voyages. Or, you can rent watercraft activities like waterbikes, hobie cats, paddle boats, kayaks, and paddle boards. Further, there is a 22-acre snorkeling lagoon at Family Beach, In Da Shade games, and the Pelican Plunge water platform.
Disney’s Castaway Cay also has bike and nature trails for you to explore during your visit. So, pick up a bike for an hour rental and set off along the airstrip to the nature trails.
Castaway Ray’s Stingray Adventure is another popular shore excursion option on the island, where you can interact with these friendly rays up close and personal.
Not to mention, you could run a 5K, get a massage, do a little shopping, or live it up in a cabana.
There is even an area exclusive for kids and teens on Disney's Castaway Cay. Scuttle’s Cove is for kids ages 3 to 12 years old. Here, your little ones will be supervised by Disney cast members from the ship for a complimentary day of fun. Similarly, Hideout is for teens ages 14 to 17 years old.

Have you visited Disney's Castaway Cay in the Bahamas?
no but i wanna go
FYI im a kid
Same lol
Yes it was THE BEST DAY EVER
Just got back. Was beautiful
Looks like it’s a tic above RCL’s Labadee, clearly better than Carnival’s private island (won’t even mention NCL’s island) but not even in the same league as RCL’s Perfect Day at Coco Cay. Honestly I expected more from Disney.
It’s way better when you experience it in real life
They need to figure out how to get this to be a two day stop with a hotel for people to stay. Maybe a 7 day cruise.
That would be awesome.
Thanks for the in depth info!!!!
Can’t wait to go next year!!
I left a thumbs up. Thanks for sharing all of the good info.
Glad it was helpful!
I was there in 2000 on the Disney Wonder when our kids were 9 & 6 absolutely an amazing vacation!
It is one of our favorite cruise line private islands!
@@Eatsleepcruise1 at the time we cruised the Wonder ship was only 1 yr old, looking back at our trip since it’s been 23 yrs ago from the year 2000 it was an amazing experience! We did a 4 day land at Disney World and a 3 day cruise. It wasn’t cheap around 6k back in 2000.
Good cruise
@@ryantaylor841 your absolutely correct! We totally enjoyed it.
hello, this was very helpful video. about to go on our first Disney Cruise this year. took a lot of notes on this. thank you once again. got a video on the Fantasy ship?
Glad it was helpful! Unfortunately, we have never sailed on Fantasy. Have a great trip.
My 2 children and I are also going on the Fantasy ship in December.
A fantastic island to visit, our kids love it and we are going again this April. Would love to get a Cabana but it's nearly impossible as they a quickly booked up by Platinum Castaway Members
Yes, it is lovely.
We have a fishing excursion then a few hours in between the glass bottom boat. Is their a restaurant near that area? Sounds like we will stay in that area
Are there jogging stroller available for the 5K?
Cool
Hi, do you know if there are changing rooms on the island? Thanks, great blog.
We don’t know first hand but would think so given there are a lot of family areas on the island. When is your next cruise?
@Eatsleepcruise1 thanks for the info, we fly out to Florida on the 21st February but set sail on the Fantasy on the 24th- cannot wait!
I love Castaway Cay, but I'm always surprised and disappointed that they don't have a pool, seems odd to me as all the other cruise lines have a pool on their islands.
Why do you need a pool when you have the ocean?
@@micahmoore9845Exactly
@@micahmoore9845 Aversion to salt water or fear of the ocean, probably. I prefer swimming in the ocean though lol
WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
How Beautiful is Castaway Cay. This is definitely going to be on my bucket list hopefully one day we will get to experience this wonderful Island and the cruise 😊😊
Those slides!!! Can adults go down them or only kids?
Adults too!
Adults too
I wish they had a pool on this island, my wife isn’t a fan of beach water lol… I hear other private islands do have pools.
That's correct. Royal Caribbean's Perfect Day at CocoCay has a great lagoon pool.
I can’t wait to see it again
Us too. We need to plan another DCL cruise.
We dry g

why did you put a fake linear blur ....
We didn’t. But thanks for watching.
I don't drink. What can I do? 😂
I remember the water burned my eyes so bad for some reason
Because it's salt water lmao 🤣 What did you think.
so what do you do on the ship when your 13 ? 😭
Wondering this SAME thing. The lost age ? What the heck??
@@MokaraFloralhave you ever been on a Disney cruise before? I’m thirteen too, and I think there’s actually quite a lot to do.
Dont ever rent the cabana 2,3,4,5 you will have a beach of rocks and cut yourself and end up tearing up their floats and inner tubes!
Thanks for the tip!
Disney should update the name of castaway cay, it is spelled KEY not CAY.
Cay is a lowbank or reef of coral, rock or sand. "Key" is the correct pronunciation
Is this like Epstein Island but with Mickey & Friends?
Yes, it's NOT worth it! It was AWFUL! Cast should warn people that the flies swarm EVERYWHERE! Never could eat the food, because if you put anything down they covered everything. The post office was CLOSED for our whole day, so don't count on using it. As I couldn't eat I went back to the ship to eat in peace. The place isn't maintained very well, it looked old and run down. The painted buoys hadn't been refreshed and were rusted. Trams were in bad shape too. So much for a high "disney" standard. Not worth the price.
thats crazy. I just came from Royal Caribbean's private island and it was amazing. I was sure Disney's would be, but this looks disappointing
So interesting to hear the different experiences. We went in 2019 and it was beautiful, great weather and I don't recall an issue with bugs. Our kids had a blast and were doing another cruise with Disney in April - looking forward to Castaway even more this time now that we experienced it.
My wife, sons, and I went summer of 2016. We didn't find insects to be an issue..... However, I think it should be noted that flies, etc are as likely to be at any and all the islands, being tropical. 😉 Also, given that there's generally an ocean breeze blowing, that tends to limit flying insects. Everything was well maintained when WE were there, and all the recent videos I've seen, everything was well maintained, and non of the content creators mentioned lack of maintenance (And they would have.)..... Sounds a lot like you don't enjoy much.... But I wasn't there when you were. You must one of very few people who don't love Castaway Cay.
We were there August 2022 and had no issues, our 5th visit there and have never seen it dirty or had an issue with bugs
@@blondegoddess65 Flies were everywhere at the adult beach, and the food area looked like it hadn't been worked on in years. Other than the rusted and faded things at the first beach they seemed decent, but not in what should be old style Disney condition. New corporate disney style almost anything is acceptable unless it could lead to a law suite.
Is the water cold in December
We were last there the end of October, and the water was still nice.
I too would like to know the answer to this question.
Yes we went on dec 24th 2023 and the water was freezing. It was about 75 degrees out od the water
