I watch a lot of "It's Me or the Dog"; Victoria Stillwell is a wonderful trainer who gives amazing tips on how to lovingly connect and communicate with dogs, especially those who don't have the confidence to stay calm in stressful situations. She never uses force or tools of discomfort on the dog, and emphasizes the trust needed between pet and owner.

I've seen so many of those "reach out to Dog Daddy" comments lately & I'm glad you addressed why his methods aren't for you. Hopefully those comments lessen & you don't get too many coming thinking they are defending him by attacking you.

I subscribe to the mindset of:
"If you wouldnt let someone use it on YOU then *DO NOT* use it on an animal." With very few exceptions.
So unless Dog Daddy or his followers are okay with wearing prong collars, choke collars, electric shock collars, etc etc on themselves to their fullest extent then their "Methods" are nothing more than abuse and bullying.
However I respect your measured and mature approach to the subject. As always your kindness and bravery shine through.

I hope you look into Beckmans in Ramona CA. Joel Beckman has been working with reactive and aggressive dogs for years. He is an expert at reading dogs and getting enemy dogs to be friends. He has a large facility with fields and a fantastic dog pool....he trains with PLAY as a part of the training. He also works groups of dogs with your dog. He uses a lead, often a regular collar or easy leader nose harness, to direct the dog . He does employ a snap of the lead to get the dogs attention but he demonstrates how it is directing, not pulling. It is like a reign on a horse, it seems. I have been watching his UA-cam channel and that is where I am forming my opinion. I have not met him , but would consider him seriously if i had your issue. His videos are fascinating. Watch several, keep an open mind. He lives about 2 hours from you in Ramona CA. He also has a training institute for people to learn from him. He is a different type of trainer , no shock, no prong....Sounds like an option to ❤

While I agree with you and support you on this matter, one thing I would juat like to state is that slip leads are not at all dangerous and very beneficial IF, and I mean IF, people know how to properly and safely use them. In an ideal scenario, they are wonderful for guiding and training dogs easily and also for rescue situations as I have personally had to use one multiple times on strays you cant get close to.
I just wanted to say this just to clear up that they are not necessarily bad or dangerou, just that using them without the proper knowledge or training they can but are otherwise very helpful.
Appreciate everything you do and love your content!
P.s. I dont agree with ANYTHING dog daddy does. It's criminal.

    • @keikolovely.
      @keikolovely. Рік тому +1

@@SunVillageAR I understand your point and agree that they can be very dangerous. You should not be using them on a dog that pulls aggressively nor should someone be pulling or yanking on them as you stated. However, if a dog understands just the presence of some being put around their neck, there is no need for pulling, tightening, etc. Even if you do need to put some tension on it, you don't have to pull any harder than the tightness of a collar, likewise if the dog is pulling you can loosen up and then gently put the tautness back into the lead. Like I said this is not for dogs who love to forcefully pull, I agree there is not a good way to get around that. Also most dogs with leash/lead understanding recognize the appropriate safe pressure and tightness around them, causing them to think there's no need to pull.
Also just as a point, even people who use a traditional collar/leash combo can be injuring their dog far more. Many collars are too loose on dogs because their owners are afraid of cutting off oxygen or making them uncomfortable. A single hard pull on a leash attached to a loose collar can be far more damaging to their neck and throat, with even the risks of strangulation if there is persistent pulling.
I'm not trying to argue btw, I just genuinely enjoy discussing this type of stuff. You are completely valid in your own thoughts and opinions. At the end of the day, all that matters is that all our furry loved ones are happy and healthy 💜

He manipulates his viewers with comments like “I’m the dogs last chance” to invoke emotional responses. Offering Zak 50k for him to “show up” and prove his methods work best. Then using Zak’s “silence” as proof of anything… it’s egotistical nonsense and gaslighting 101. He’s uneducated and ignorant to what his methods are truly doing to these animals. I tried training the puppy recently. Tried getting a sibling to do it but instead had to pull the puppy away from him since whenever the puppy would do something wrong he'd wrap his hands around the puppy's neck and said that's how you do it. I don't think I could ever trust my family on training a dog that well considering it was my 12 year old brother that did that and almost choked the puppy. Rex, the puppy, is actually smart and doesn't make too much mistakes thankfully. I've had issues with relatives not being nice to puppies in the past and one threw one against a fence since it was crying. I'll have to train my family if I want them to train the puppy too.

People like him are for extreme cases that can not be rehabilitated and they should never be adopted out, but do need a place/shelter to live out their lives, where staff, are aware of the dangers.
You have had no incident with this dog, there is no reason to use extreme measures. Once again I urge caution, try not to be distracted while speaking in the dogs proximity, keep your face away from his (this goes for all dogs) dogs should be trained as puppies not to lick faces or jump up on people. I couldn't care less if they know how to sit or fetch - if they know not to jump up or lick faces, don't pull when walked - then that's a trained dog.

I did a bit of digging last year. I don't recommend him either. There's an extensive reddit post about it.
    Also, court filings by folks.
If I may, I would suggest that you find a vet that can do lab work on him to see if his endocrine system is in check. Not just normal kind, but the kind that requires adrenal gland and pancreas. Systemic aggression is present in dogs with trauma. They have high cortisol, and can have borderline diabetes. Those two things, it's gasoline for dogs with trauma. It'll take something small, like petting another dog, for him to snap. There's treatment tho. Once you get that checked out, he may have to take some meds. That can really change his behavior in a short time. He will probably integrate into a family with no issues.
If everything checks out, and he's healthy, he will most likely need to go to a home with someone who is home a lot, like work from home, with no children or other pets of any kind. He will need someone he can trust, because he will have trauma caused attachment issues. He will behave, and will do very well if he knows he is safe.
Trust is everything with these rescues.
You have earned it, and I see signs of beginning of an attachment issue when I see how he interacts with y'all. That's a coping mechanism for stress from fear. That's probably why he wags his tail a lot. He looks nervous. That makes me nervous for you.
Just remember, most of us are here. Like, HERE. Whatever it is you need, we can all chip in and find a way.

Um, the color supposed to do The work it is supposed to feel like the mother is scruffing them, like when they were babies I do not like dog daddy you still have to use non-aggressive and reinforcement with treats and praise to do proper training. Prong collars are only to be a deterrent from pulling to be honest even dog trainers can not be properly trained with those that being said electric fences and shock collars i am flat out against they can get a fence or a lead is what i tell people when clients ask about it i ask them would u put that on you child when they say jo i say then why put it in your dog that usually changes their mind with that
