Interesting, I googled this because I’m repotting my my 20 year Japanese Jupiter soon, and I’d like to add and expose 1 more inch of roots from beneath the soil, should work fine!
Hi Eric, Very nice presentation on what looks like a challenging tree to grow as exposed root. While looking I kept seeing the abrupt transition from the base of the trunk to the beginning of the roots. I don’t think any branches will ever bud off the roots but small branches could be grafted on the roots to serve as sacrifice branches to thicken them. Probably with time that transition will take care of itself. Plants are pretty capable of becoming aesthetic on their own. I suppose bonsai incorporates a great deal of manipulation to imitate what happens naturally in aesthetic ideals.
It's a good point, and I agree. But, I think the nature of junipers - veining and deadwood, will allow me to clean that up after a few more years of growth. Will have to wait and see. I don't think grafting foliage onto the roots would be productive, although I do understand why you suggest it.
Cool idea and execution. I wonder with hindsight if wiring the tree before removing the plastic would have allowed you to work on the tree without moving the tree so much in the air
Not much to report - the tree is just growing out at the moment, but no dieback or anything. I did do a bit more bending to the roots a couple months ago.
Yes, and the roots tend to be flexible up to a point. The real issue is getting roots that are large enough with a juniper since the root growth is not as quick nor robust as with pines.
I might provide an update on this tree - I was looking at it the other day. Still growing it out. In this video I added some movement. But I'll be growing the tree on for a while yet!
Some situations in life trauma and pain can lead to a far better situation than what caused it to begin with, like a man suddenly becoming interested in marriage where he would have never considered it previously.. But pain and trauma have a threshold a point of not return ,unfortunately people who lack emotional intelligence are not very good as assessing when they have crossed the bloody line, because they see your trauma and pain as merely a means to their end......FACT
Beautiful design! Watching you expose the roots was like Christmas.
I agree! So fun.
Just found your channel. Super cool projects and great presentation! Will try some of these as well. Keep it up!
my most favourite juniper in the right person

Good point, but as Anders said - bonsai is a waiting game. Since I waited two years, the roots are solid enough that I'm not too worried about it!
Bonsai is a waiting game if you wait the roots will grow
Hello Eric ! Is there any update on this? I really wanna try it myself with one of my junipers. Thanks

@@Bonsaify Thanks for the follow-up, can't wait to see this one evolve.
Bom dia, Flor do dia!
Would wrapping the exposed roots like that a pine to add movement work as well? I was just talking to some club members about doing this yesterday.

@@Bonsaify ok awesome. Thankyou!
Where'd you get the basket mesh?
Search for "finofil" on ebay.
If you had waited a while more the results would be even greater, si?

Well I appreciate the video because I’m about to do the same to a baby shimp I was gifted. Thanks !!!
Only 480 p 😞
Huh, our bad. Did realize that happened! But YT wont allow us to replace the file now. Ugh.
