Wonderful timing for me. Just bought the Smokey 12. $140.00 US. Bought it for the Highland Peat, and the Marsala Cask. And with just the neck pour under belt, I’ve more exploring to do. Already enjoying the distinction between Highland and Islay Peat. And you’ve baited me to hunt down the Ten, as I also enjoy the rum cask....Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 and Teeling’s rum finish. Thanks for your time spent. 🥃!!
Thank you Max! That price does seem rather steep for me in the UK, it’s around $$60-70 but then again we have to pay over the odds for some bourbons! I really want to try the balvenie Caribbean for the rum finish, I had the smokehead rum rebel which was a nice rum finished islay and I’ve been looking for other rum finished alternatives
I think it could be worth hunting down the 10 for that rum finish and the highland peat. The nose is brilliant but as I always think, it depends on how it is priced locally to you, whether it makes it a buy or not
Not had either of these but like you said seen the Benriach Smokey 10 pop up a lot on offer. I do like a Peated Speyside, so been interesting to watch this battle. Cheers.
I’d go for the 10 year out of the two but I need to buy one or two more peated speysides because I don’t feel like these two are the best of what it can offer. The peated glendronach is the one I’d love to try but it’s expensive 🥲
Great review. I can only get the 10 here. For some reason they have not released the smoky 12. Might just need to gram the 10! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Thank you for the review. I've been looking up these whiskys here in Sweden, and they are quite expensive for what you get. We seem to have similar taste, so I think I'll pass on these two. Here the cost is around €56 for the 10yo and €58 for the 12yo, and for that kind of money there's a lot of other choises. We also have an expression called Smoke Season for €68, so I think that is quite steep too regarding what you get. Always nice to follow your reviews 🤗
Thank you for the kind words, they are quite expensive for what you get so at those prices I would give them a miss, especially with no discounts in Sweden 😉
@@WhiskyWars You're most welcome 🤗 We do have a Glendronach Peated here for €58, 700ml bottled at 58% ABV, but I can't say if that is the one you are referring to?
In the UK there’s a peated 46% at £40 and a traditionally peated 48% at £48. I’ve not tried either so I can’t recommend them but actually I might have to buy both in the future to do a review because I don’t know which of them to get 😅 a 58% for that price sounds really interesting but I’m afraid I’m no help because I’ve never tried them!
@@WhiskyWars No problem. I have some others on my lust to try before GD Peated, so if you manage to try them someday and review them it would be cool. 🤗
@@WhiskyWarsI think it’s a travel exclusive. Reasonable specs and pretty good vfm. It’s a muted Islay imitation but still decent. The best peated speysides for me comes from Benromach though. Not seen you review any of those yet so if you haven’t tried them, trust me, you’ve been missing out. 🙂
I believe so! Unfortunately there’s just so many whiskeys that I want to buy but I’m gonna have save up some £ first but yeah you’re right, I’ve seen it get many good reviews and especially for the summer months, it’d be really nice to get hold of a bottle soon

10 vs 12 somethings two years makes a world of difference & sometimes it kills what was good. Nice review. Cheers to ya!
Thank you 😊
That's a fun comparison on those whiskys my friend. Cheers!
Thank you so much, hope you enjoyed it!

Thanks Jon, it certainly has a great nose in my opinion. Interesting cask choices
I was just gifted a bottle of the 10 and I'm so very looking forward to cracking it open soon.
Enjoy!

What’s no.1 on your list?
Have you tried the Benriach Smokey Quarter Cask? How did it compare with these two?
I haven’t, unfortunately!

@@WhiskyWars I know - too many Whisky’s, not enough money, (or space)! 😀
