I saw it ONE time only when I was like 12 or 13 and it was on a UHF channel in Chicago. This would have been like 1981 or 82. But the character was so powerful in his psychosis that I remembered him. I didn't remember the character name or the actor's name until literally YESTERDAY, when someone posted the movie poster for this on a 70s-80s throwback group page. But I only remembered that what got me to watch the movie in the first place was that the actor was someone I had seen in another movie and liked (Breaking Away) but I couldn't remember that either and actually looked under Mark Hamil's (Star Wars) movie listings. It was crazy. So I've been trying to see this movie again, thinking about it, trying to name actors who I thought were in it with no luck. I finally found it online last night and watched it right away and it was BETTER than I remembered. So yeah, I guess you could call it the power of a character portrayal.
This is another reason why nothing will ever top70s- 80s slasher films. I loved and grew up in this era. I remember watching this on The Movie Channel in the 80s. I miss this genre. Got killed off by the serial killer
I agree and I thought she did a great job too! I got this on a double feature with Hell Night cause it was cheaper that way. But I ended up just loving this movie.
Great psychological horror film, Eric is so crazy it gave me chills watching him. What happens when an abused "nobody" snaps? Some truly nasty payback. Favorite scenes are the barbershop gunning, and the Dracula scene, pitch-perfect. Forget Voorhees or Myers, this guy is a walking freak show.
Watched it a few years ago on Shudder and was honestly impressed by this low budget horror movie, also I was surprised by the fact that Dennis Christopher appeared in this and Stephen King’s IT.
Just saw this last night for the first time and was blown away! Amazing concept and well acted by the lead character.. I loved the alleyway duel scene that actually was a terrifying sight to see him in a kids costume.. Something just felt so off about it, it was scary, knowing how fragile of mind was behind that odd mask.. One of my new found favorites!!
Never even heard of this film, until now. I'd be his friend. I have about a dozen big boxes of DVD's and Blu-rays. I may have to even get this one now.
Haha! That is what reminded me of this movie & brought me here: this movie trailer scared the ever living shit out of me as a kid - now, seeing it again decades later, it would be a stretch to label it a "Horror movie".....
***** It has an obsessed, sadistic killer as the main character, great motivation and buildup, and several chilling deaths. This seems like a classic horror-thriller to me.
Definitely more psychological thriller a la Brian DePalma's films like Dressed To Kill, Body Double, Sisters, Carrie, Raising Cain, etc. about psychopathic outcasts.
Jepp you are not alone im pretty soure they how made the joker took some inspiration from fade to black but also taxi driver from 1976 and king of comedy 1982 and thats not a bad thing. I can actually see joker take place in the fade to black universe but then again joker takes place in 1981 so yeah.🤡
0:26- This is the best Joker origin story of 1980, next to Carny. 0:38- I'm calling for the cancelation of Mickey Rourke! 1:24- Yes, thank you. The movie's gone full internet YEARS before internet outrage. 2:17- Forget the Halloween knockoffs. In this one, someone gets attacked by a Halloween poster. Take THAT, He Knows You're Alone.
@@reimourrpower9357 I'm just quoting the Cinema Snob's review of this trailer in his 1980 in Film episode. Also, that joke was made, because Rourke said "retarded."
The moment some obsessive freak name drops what was Adolf Hitler’s favorite movie, is definitely a sure sign of being screwed in the head. Definitely, gonna watch this one!
You're entitled to that opinion and I'm sure you're not alone. That 'lameness' you feel is probably a quality of 'cheesiness' of the pulpy horror genre that makes it appealing to many on a cult level. Someone should make a list of the Greatest Lame Films of 1980 and start with this.
I find this movie utterly engrossing, it seems like film geeks have a strong appreciation of this film in particular, there's a lot of style to this film imo, either way def not everyone's cup of tea, but I'm a big fan....although there are some weak moments...
My parents dropped me off at the movies when I was 10. I was there all day and snuck in. It is an awesome flick.
Damn, that story took me back! Old school truth lol
I loved that movie !!! Never forgot it since High School !!! It's a hard movie to find... Can't help but to feel sorry for Eric though.
captainarcher2 It was released on VHS in 1999. Still waiting for a DVD, Bluray, and 4k UHD release.
@@MrAntiSellOut Vinegar Syndrome released in in a Limited Print Edition Blu-Ray.

Good ole days
Her name is Linda Kerridge, she has played Marilyn or Monroe-like roles in a few other movies as well. Striking resemblance!
I agree and I thought she did a great job too! I got this on a double feature with Hell Night cause it was cheaper that way. But I ended up just loving this movie.
Scream Factory needs to release this on blu ray. Dennis Christopher and Linda Kerridge are both still around and could do interviews/commentary
Michael Honscar can I get an amen!!?
Vinegar Syndrome just announced a 4k release of this!
@@JustinDavidTalks Man I love them! Just picked it up too

Maggie Koch Don't forget about the wheelchair scene
Hopalong Cassidy scene with Mickey Rourke and Cody Jarrett barbershop was good.
Watched it a few years ago on Shudder and was honestly impressed by this low budget horror movie, also I was surprised by the fact that Dennis Christopher appeared in this and Stephen King’s IT.
Poor Eric. All he needed was a friend.
Overlooked gem. Creepy....and well done psyche film.
I saw this in 1980 and also bought the paperback book. Both were great!
Fifteen years old.
Still best movie I really loved with the warriors.
Ah, the good ol' days... back when Dennis Christopher was on the A-list.

The wheelchair and Count Dracula fatal chase scenes are my favorites
Great concept. A movie within a movie... or movies.
This is my favourite movie ever Dennis Christopher is amazing he should get more work in Hollywood
I just did a top 5 horror films from the year 1980 and this made the cut! I adore this movie!
I saw this like 10 years ago, could never remember the title until now! Great flick!
Don't blink or you'll miss Mickey Rourke in this trailer!
I thought I saw him.
I remember seeing this in San Dimas Ca in 1980
Ahh. Good beautiful california
Looks pretty fun. That actress looked a lot like Marilyn!
This was one of my favorite movies as a kid lol
He's so adorable!

I didn't really think that it was much of a horror movie. But the trailer used to creep us out when we were little kids. #fadetoblack #the80s

2:31 Back when dental work was scary.
THIS is The Joker’s origin movie I’m looking for.
I've been looking for the name of this movie for a long time!
FABULOUS MOVIE & The BEST Marilyn Monroe lookalike i EVER seen ! LINDA KENRIDGE ...
A great character study
One of my favorite movies of all time.
wow this movie seems great I am gong to be able to watch it soon!!!
Eddie Kaspbrak you gave an awesome performance in this movie. Thank You ☺
As a movie fan I felt attacked watching this lol.
forget the mainstream horror, watch this
Metaluna Zombie Preach
right on
Man, it feels like if Quinton Tarantino did any kind of horror movie it would probably look like this.
I believe Tarantino is a huge fan of this film. And of Dennis Christopher, Christopher is in Tarantino Django unchained, he's a very solid actor...
old school
Good Lord,I forgot all about this one;I even saw it in the theater.
As Dracula,he kinda looks like Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins.
"Cody Jarret and dont ever forget it" You'll be sorry BIG ED
Very intertextual-loved it!
It's a real shame how the trailer is much remastered and much clearer than the actual film.
I want to see it! I'm getting it mailed to me this or next week!
is it just me or does that actor kinda look like lee harvey oswald?
I see an almost odd comparison between eric binford and arthur fleck from joker for some reason. Anybody else notice this?

I kind of feel like this guy without the killer part that is!
ditto!
Douglass Stonechek no doubt haha
Great flick!
"Just call me Leo..."
Only true film fans will get it....
Looks good
Peace to this incredible staff..im young forever
Top of the world MA!!
One of the first movies i remember. It was late 80s in ex Yugoslavia:D
Who is the actress that looks like Marilyn Monroe her mannerisms and her voice is just like her any one know her name did you do any other movies?
The 80s weren’t perfect but when they got it right it was masterful.
@301starmenace - It's not good. It's great.
Gotta see it! 83
His descent into madness i think was the inspiration for joker.
Richs full name is Rich Blaine in Casablanca
Looking forward to watching and critiquing the movie
TOTAL CLASSIC AND SCARRRRY CREEPPPY AND ALLL THAT JAAAZZZZZ!! LOL
Don't recall this one. Kind of reminds me off 'Jim Carey in The Mask'.
More like the movie the joker from 2019
0:33 Binford ? Binford Tools from Home Improvement ?
People use to laugh at Eric Binford, now with every performance he knocks them dead!

Another off beat and unrepeatable movie
Even in '80, this movie wasn't the edge of terror, it was the edge of shit
This is just way to cringy...
Ludicrous. And the inclusion of clips from other films when he goes on a rampage is amateurish and dumb.
Sorry, I thought this movie was lame.
