great presentation. on trucks with high hours I have found that the internal strainer filter in the valve chest ontop of the transmission gets blocked. often people just replace the filter. if you don't flush then change the ATF and filter it will block again. once again I learnt that the hard way.

Hey buddy, im having problem with no forwards or backwards, i have power to either side of plug to solenoids on transmission when switching lever to forward or revers, also done a bypass test. so we stripped the transmission, the solenoids seemed fine when we tested them as we could hear them opening or closing when power was put to them, all internals of transmission looked fine as far as im aware apart from internal strain filter which was clogged. but cannot see any other problem internally on transmission, still yet to put transmission back in but struggled to find any issue at all, where else could i look?
Thanks for the check light thing, never thought of it it also would limit current vry cool and the t-pin type will change how I do things moving forward, like every day. You should get a Fluke multimeter, this would take like 3 minutes without any power involved.
I do have a fluke multimeter. I like using a test light on simple loads such as relays, lights, solenoids because its quick and easy to do a bypass test. The bulb would limit the current going through, as you are basically connecting the test light in series with the load.

I think what you are referring to is the inching valve. On a forklift the third pedal is called an inching pedal which releases the forward or reverse clutch for the operator to feather the movement of the forklift or to release the clutch completely.

Just started working on toyota lifts at work . I have a 8fgcu20 I think , smaller hard tire dock forklifts and when you hit the brake pedal going forward it will almost throw you out the seat , when in reverse they operate normally and gradually stop you without jarring any tips ?
+Mathew Hansen no. On the dip stick there is a level for hot or cold. I usually run the engine to running temp, kill the engine then check the level using H as reference.

Hi I my company has a Toyota forklift model #8FGCU30. Original problem was lift jerking when in forward gear then lift was not driving forward or reverse. We changed both solenoids, torque converter and replaced all the parts in the transmission. Now lift moves forward but does not reverse, engine only revs. Any advise will be appreciated. Thanks.

+ForkliftGeek I've got one that doesn't have forward. I put battery volts to that connector at the transmission and still no luck. so I replaced the solenoid. still nada. I verified I have switched voltage at the connection. there's no possible way the relay would be bad if I have all of those things, correct? I found a plug for the forward valve broken, but I could still freely move the valve in the bore and the valve would spring back like it should. all of this after a pm. go figure. any thoughts? btw your videos are very informative...even to veteran lift techs. keep up the good work
I think some of these have 4 wires in the connector instead of two. Two wires mean the solenoid is grounded to the body if four then the other two would be ground wires for each solenoid. The most effective way is to use a scope to look at the current and voltage to see if the solenoid is really opening and closing. Using a current clamp and comparing the current to the reverse would give an idea if the solenoid is operating. If the solenoid is shifting the spool, then pressure tests would be my next step.

+Luis Elias when u say its stuck in reverse do u mean it just drives in reverse and not forward? Or just drives in reverse no matter what direction u choose.
+Rene Trevino well, if your truck is exactly like the one in this video then it could be a cope of things. One could be the accelerator potentiometer, the electronic throttle body, or it could be that the computer is not allowing the engine to Rev up because it sees a fault (limp mode).
+Shabbir Hussain code CO is drive circuit abnormality fault. Everything concerning the drive circuit is suspect, but I'd start by checking the motor brushes.

Where is that I've replaced both solenoids and seals on cylinders and still no forward .. not a wire we tested and not controller ?? I'm lost

Hey buddy, im having problem with no forwards or backwards, i have power to either side of plug to solenoids on transmission when switching lever to forward or revers, also done a bypass test. so we stripped the transmission, the solenoids seemed fine when we tested them as we could hear them opening or closing when power was put to them, all internals of transmission looked fine as far as im aware apart from internal strain filter which was clogged. but cannot see any other problem internally on transmission, still yet to put transmission back in but struggled to find any issue at all, where else could i look?
Check the spools for clogging
We replaced both solenoids and it still doesn't work .. not a wire problem or a control switch problem ..

More likely but check at the relay socket. U should get 2 grounds and two 12v when the switch is engaged.

Looks like the truck have in built analyzer..enter the pass key, get to the analyzer mode and to I/O Travelling...

Sounds like something is jamming in the brake drum going forward.

Check for voltage and ground going to the solenoid when the code is present. Probably a bad connection since it is intermittent.

+Rene Trevino the MIL would be lit, it would start and idle but would not accelerate. There is no reset for limp mode until the problem is fixed.

without much info, I would start with ignition. also if you know how to use a vacuum gauge, check to see if your engine is breathing properly.

If it's just the screen, then check power to it from key switch also check for negative supply other than that it's the screen itself.
