Thanks for supporting family owned businesses! I like unsweetened corn bread myself. You can't beat it with roast beef, green beans and mashed potatoes! Great video as usual!
I am a east tn hillbilly of 71 years here. Raised up on cornbread made with Three Rivers cornmeal. Handsdown to me made THE BEST cornbread. Not sweet- crusty- of course made in a cast iron skillet. That is what Southern cornbread is all about. My grandma every nite would eat her little pone of cornbread made in her cast iron skillet- green onions- big glass of buttermilk. SHE lived to be 93. HeY Could be the secret to Long life! Why do we like non sweet cornbread- simple answer - it is what we was raised up on. 😂😂
Ok, cornbread. It is absolutely a personal choice and I think it is what you grew up with. I much prefer the southern white butter milk style but I usually make it with beans or greens and that is what soaks up plus a good slather of butter. I'm from East Tennessee. I also make the white mix with shredded cheese and chopped green onion, fried in bacon grease! A total meal! Don't care for the sweet but that's just me. If I wanted a piece of cake, I'd order that instead! Great video!
While I like sweet cornbread a lot, I don't mean sugary sweet. I just don't like it plain. I do add fourteen tons of butter to mine, so I guess it isn't as sweet as some. LOL The sweeter cornbread I do like, is corn cake. It is yummy and sweet. Still add butter. haha
That chicken casserole looked delicious. On the cornbread, I am from Tennessee and my grandma always said, "Cornbread starts in the south and the farther north it goes, the more sugar they add. By the time it gets to Michigan it's cake!" 😜 My preference is without sugar, but that is just me.
Your grandma was right. We live in the North, and our cornbread is sweet. I was at an awesome park last year, and I got their cornbread. I didn't care for it because it was like cake.🤣 We appreciate you watching and commenting. 😎😎
Being from New Orleans. I love both types. We will even through some peaches in the batter and then serve it as a type of dessert with a bit of cream over It. Great review folks.
tfs . . love that these mom/pop diners are still around they certainly make their food w/love . . I prefer regular cornbread no sugar nowadays they add sugar in everything just like salt. . enjoy your weekend take care ♥️🙋♀️
That steak platter John got I could definitely go for. I usually get chicken or fish but once in awhile I get a craving for a good steak. I also love a good moist cornbread too. Thanks for sharing this video John and Bobbie. Love you guys! 😊 ❤
When we come to Tennessee every June. We stay not too far away from here. We always get food to go from here. Their desserts are amazing, especially the banana pudding.
We discovered Trish's by accident when we were on our way home after a great time in the Smokies. My wife got the chicken casserole and flipped over it. I did too, after tasting hers. We now make a point to eat at Trish's every trip up there. The staff folks are awesome, too!
John and Bobbie, you guys live a pretty darn good life! I like it! I think I love watching your videos and a handful of other people that do something like this, because I would LOVE to do something like that in the future. Going around trying new things at one of a kind restaurants is what I love to do with my wife. Leaving with a full belly of great food and a smile on your face. Good times!
I am a true southerner and I love the sweet cornbread plus the plain cornbread! We eat pinto beans, navy beans and black eyed peas and love both sweet and regular cornbread! My Yankee Doodle Dandy only likes sweet cornbread!! Love your reviews! ❤❤
I am in southeast Louisiana and we always put sugar in cornbread ... Everywhere I've gone to in this area to eat has sweet cornbread. I don't believe what they're calling southern style cornbread truly is southern.
Always a great time spent with you two. Thank you. I prefer corn bread without sweetener or sugar. Then, I can add honey or syrup on top if I want. But, I seldom add anything but butter. Once I did make some with sugar, and not thinking, I used it for my stuffing. Oh, it was the worst stuffing I ever tasted. Haha. Learned a big lesson.
I like butter with cornbread. I will have to try honey sometime. That is a funny story. Sugar in stuffing doesn't sound good.🤣 Thank you for watching. Have a great weekend. 😎😎
Happy Saturday! Love those out of the way maw and paw restaurants. They usually never disappoint. Your meals looked delicious. Like Bobbie, I love potato salad. Great video and review. Thanks for sharing! 😊
Yes the sweet cornbread rules. Trish’s has the best ribeye and fish and the potato salad. Thanks for the video and the memories of a fine place to eat. Take care, be well and God Bless, let’s rock n roll. 🎸👍

I prefer sweet cornbread. I was raised in the Midwest. My husband was raised in southern Appalachia, and he preferred cornbread without. My mother-in-law called cornbread with sugar “Yankee cornbread” . They used white corn meal, and I used yellow. Lots of regional variations between the two families, but I learned to cook it all, and varied the menu. I like to use Southern cornbread with greens now that I am just cooking for me.
Southern cornbread goes perfectly with all of our greens, peas, cabbage, and beans, etc. I prefer regular cornbread. (Especially when drinking sweet tea or if having a dessert after the meal.)
I love going with you two on your adventures. I prefer regular cornbread. If I wanted something sweet I would order a piece of cake. Like someone has said, it all depends on how you were raised. ❤❤
This place is a mile or so from my house, Trish was a wonderful person so sad when she passed. I am so happy though her family has done such a great job keeping the restaurant going with good service and great food. She would be proud of them.
We talked to her sister the last time we were here for breakfast. Sounds like Trish was an amazing lady. We are glad they keep using her recipes. We appreciate you watching and commenting. 😎😎
Good morning John and Bobbie great video. Good portion sizes and prices! John you know that you have a good steak when you don't need any steak sauce!! Another "filling" video😎🤟
Good morning. Nice size portions, and the price is reasonable. John enjoyed his steak. You are right about the steak not needing sauce. Thanks for watching. 😎😎
To answer the cornbread question. Southern cornbread isn’t sweet because it is meant to be crumbled up into food. Like pinto beans, green beans, greens any food that has juice. Southerns call it sopping up the juice. My dad use to crumble up cornbread and pour buttermilk over it and eat it. The old timers use to all cornbread with sugar in it . Corn cake or corn muffins.
What a lovely restaurant, with those nice quotes on the wall. Sounds like Trish was a wonderful lady whose legacy (and recipes) live on. Mashed potatoes and gravy is a favorite of mine and John, yours looked delicious. Bobbi, your chicken and stuffing casserole looked very tasty as well. As for cornbread - I like it sweet, warm and with butter and maybe a little honey. Definitely has to be sweet!
We are glad they still use Trish's recipes. We talked to her sister when we had breakfast here. She sounds like she was an amazing lady. I am going to try honey next time on cornbread. Thanks for watching and commenting. 😎😎
We thought everything was very good. I guess it depends on what you are used to when it comes to cornbread.🤣 We appreciate you watching and commenting. 😎😎
Cute restaurant, andl love the outdoor seating. The food looked delicious! When we visit gatlinburg we always go to the Old Mill in PF to buy 10 lbs.of corrnmeal to make our crispy unsweet cornbread here in Mississippi.😂Thanks guys!Y"all always share the best restaurants off the beaten path!!❤
Good morning, John and Bobby. I've discovered that place. We was out just riding around a couple year Ego, we had breakfast there. Look forward to coming back this year and try again. Take care
Definitely check out Trish"s. We have a video on their breakfast also. It is hard to choose where to eat in this area , so many good restaurants. Thanks for watching. 😎😎
I like Southern cornbread. I think it is a matter of what you are used to. However, I have been known to put molasses on it (or good old chicken gravy).
I make chicken and stuffing casserole in my crockpot a few times per year. I just love it. Everything looks delicious. Thank you for bringing us along! 💜
Yes I love sweet tea and sweet cornbread, my grandfather always put sugar in his cornbread and fixed it in an iron skillet and we are definitely trying that restaurant when we stay in Gatlinburg this year, that food looked really good
Your meals look delicious! It’s funny how people from different areas like different foods. I enjoy plain cornbread and sweet tea. Northerners usually prefer the opposite. Thanks for sharing your experience!!
I prefer plain unsweet cornbread probably because that’s the way my Mom always made it that way when I was growing up in Kentucky. We have been to Gatlinburg dozens of times and still have not gotten to Trish’s Mountain Diner. Too many restaurants and so little time. It will definitely be on our list for next time! Thanks for the review!
There are so many good restaurants in this restaurant. Check the hours before you go. The day we were at Trish's they closed at three, but that was a week day.😎😎
I like unsweetened corn bread and I think it is about how it goes with soup beans😂. We are writing all these out of the way places you are showing to try out when we come to the Smokies this year. Thanks for another good video as always👍. Thank you John & Bobbi!
Hope you enjoy them. Tomorrow’s video is one of our top favorite places in the area but it’s not far out. In Gatlinburg on the Parkway. It’s fun going to these family owned places outside of town. The service and food is always great.😎😎
Guys , Thanks for giving us more options to eat at. John my husband and I thought your steak dinner looked great, Bobbie always sweet cornbread! Be safe in your travels!
My name is Jeffrey Cross from San Bernardino CA love your videos reminds me of my family going out eating you should try more restaurants so I can continue to watch you'll thank you!!!!😊🎉❤😅
I prefer sweet cornbread…my favorite is Marie Callander’s brand, I grew up in Southern California and used to always order it with their honey butter in their restaurants. Your meals looked so good, I’m going to try Trish’s next time we are in the Smokies, thanks for all the great tips on where to eat.
I am going to try honey on my cornbread. We had a lot of comments from people saying they put honey on it. Good comfort food. The staff was very friendly. Thanks for watching and commenting. 😎😎
Happy Saturday John and Bobbie. Those meals both looked so good but I would have ordered what John did because that steak was making my mouth water and I would get the shrimp too. I have never eaten corn bread so I don’t know if sweet is better. I’ll have to try making it and see. Thanks for another video❤️
Thanks for the review! You found another place that we’ve been to once and haven’t been back. No particular reason other than we just don’t eat out a lot. Everything looked good. We didn’t realize that they were open until 8 on Fridays and Saturdays. I think next Friday we’ll go for Catfish!✌️
@@jbinthehills we just got back from Trish’s Diner. We went for Catfish Friday and were not disappointed. The fish was delicious and the sides (fried apples, hush puppies, green beans) were all very good. Service was fast and friendly. I think we’ll go back next week for the meatloaf special. Oh yeah, and the banana pudding was fantastic!✌️
Glad you enjoyed it and we want to try the catfish. The day we stopped by they had no desserts but I bet the pudding was great. Thanks for telling us and have a great weekend Tim.😎😎
I like both kinds of cornbread. I grew up on the sweet kind and prefer it with stews. My wife is from Eastern KY and introduced me to the plain variety. It goes good with pinto beans. I like the fried taste of the crispy side. My wife eats leftover cornbread in a bowl with milk on it, but that grosses me out. P.S. I feel like I know you guys. It's so much fun to enjoy meals with you vicariously.
Milk on cornbread is how my grandmother ate her’s. Bobbie and I only like the sweet and I can pass on cornbread completely. People tell us all the time they feel like they know us. That’s so great to hear. We just have fun and try to make the restaurant or attraction the main part of the video instead of us. In our store videos you only see us maybe once the whole video. Glad you enjoy the way we do them. 😎😎
I'm not a fan of sweet corn bread If you make traditional southern corn bread , Corn meal Buttermilk Bacon grease Large tablespoon mayo (keeps bread moist not dry) 1/4 cup water Mix well Pour in well oiled iron skillet Preheat oven to 400 degrees Bake until golden brown and firm to the touch I. The center of bread
Thank you for the recipe. I never put mayo in my cornbread before. I will have to try it, but of course, I will add a little sugar. We appreciate you watching. 😎😎
I have watched y'all so long that I usually know what will end up on your plates! Must admit that the green beans threw me a little. I like my steak a wee bit more rare. The chicken dish has inspired me to get creative! Safe travels my friends!
Looks like a great place. So many good places, so little time! We're back in the pf area for a whole week in a few months. So much to see and do. We done a lot last year. Forbidden caverns looks interesting as does rock city. Don't know what we can fit in. So much good stuff. Yoder's looks good too. I've got loads of your vlogs saved to TENNESSEE FAVOURITES! 😆Oh, glad to see the Elvis glasses resurfacing a vlog or two back. 😆🇺🇸🏴
GOOD MORNING! JOHN AND BOBBIE. LOVE TRISH'S MOUNTAIN DINER! Bobbie's Meal: That Chicken Casserole could be a Thankgiving specialty with turkey instead of chicken maybe cranberries? But it sounds good. Homeade carrots, potato salad yum, homeade biscuit! John's rib eye steak medium my favorite love the fried shrimp, green beans looks like my grandma's green beans the way i make them with ham snd bacon or bacon fat, cant lose with homeade mashed potatoes and brown gravy. Corn bread i like both if you have a condiment butter or honey! What couldnt believe was THE PRICE!!! 18.95???? That ribeye was large for sure worth it.
I think that if you're willing to travel a bit outside of touristy areas you can get much better food at much better prices. I would be happy with either of your choices. Everything looked so good.
That certainly looked liked country cooking. I prefer these smaller restaurants with true home cooking. We’ve tried their breakfast but will have try a lunch or dinner. Sweet cornbread of course😋.
Thanks for supporting family owned businesses! I like unsweetened corn bread myself. You can't beat it with roast beef, green beans and mashed potatoes! Great video as usual!
Sometimes, the best meals come from small businesses. I like cornbread in chili. Thanks for watching and commenting. 😎😎

Happy Saturday. John's steak was tender and seasoned well. We appreciate you watching and commenting. 😎😎
My Pop liked his cornbread with a glass of buttermilk and a bowl of beans.

I made the stuffed shells one day last week. 😎😎
You are welcome. I bet the catfish is good. Thanks for watching. 😎😎
Good Morning Y'all hope have great weekend the food look good
Good morning. We appreciate you watching. Have a great weekend. 😎😎
Happy Saturday thanks for this video the food looks yummy the resturant looks homey.
Happy Saturday. It is a cozy and relaxing restaurant. Good food and friendly staff. 😎😎
good review , both on the cornbread ,,, we may try Trish's again maybe ......
Thank you. We appreciate you watching. 😎😎
I'm not a fan of sweet corn bread
If you make traditional southern corn bread ,
Corn meal
Buttermilk
Bacon grease
Large tablespoon mayo (keeps bread moist not dry)
1/4 cup water
Mix well
Pour in well oiled iron skillet
Preheat oven to 400 degrees
Bake until golden brown and firm to the touch I.
We appreciate you watching. The chicken casserole is a hearty meal. I used to make something similar when my kids were growing up. They loved it.😎😎
Looks like a great place. 😆🇺🇸🏴
There are so many restaurants in this area. We try to remember to put the Elvis glasses on sometimes. We appreciate you watching. 😎😎
Great place great value Garth
The prices are reasonable. Good comfort food. 😎😎
That food just looks so good
It was very good home cooking. 😎😎

Hi John Bobbie food looked delicious I like sweet corn bread 😊
Hello My meal was very filling. I loved the carrots and potato salad. Thanks for watching. 😎😎
I would like cranberries in the stuffing. The chicken casserole is a hearty meal. The prices were reasonable. Thanks for watching and commenting. 😎😎

John's steak was very tender. They did a good job preparing it. Thanks for watching. 😎😎
I think that if you're willing to travel a bit outside of touristy areas you can get much better food at much better prices. I would be happy with either of your choices. Everything looked so good.
You are right if you go outside the tourist area. You can get some great food and reasonable prices. Thanks for watching. 😎😎
Man those meals look yummy.
We thought everything was very good. Thanks for watching. 😎😎
That certainly looked liked country cooking. I prefer these smaller restaurants with true home cooking. We’ve tried their breakfast but will have try a lunch or dinner. Sweet cornbread of course😋.
We had their breakfast before. That's when we decided that we had to come back for lunch. Thanks for watching. 😎😎
