    Tips for anyone trying to get the achievement on HARD.
    Caveat: I got the achievement in April, 2021. Perhaps when you are reading my message, any of the civs in the scenario may have undergone a vital change (buff, nerf or otherwise), which enables a different approach.
    1. I don't advise going all in by building a CASTLE on blue's face with 3 villagers while tarkans shield them from harm. It's likely the castle won't go up (scorpions may pick off the vils) and even if you succeed, without Murder Holes the castle will shortly fall.
    2. I don't advise building a castle at blue's base anytime. If you let blue boom, you may as well build your castle at your base at some point, and prepare a final attack once you defeat Teal and Green (shortly after blue attacks with a lot of military, so building a castle or two home is helpful).
    3. Finally, don't try to weaken all enemies and let them live, especially blue. You will only lose units and blue will get it's castles up in no time.
    What I DO ADVISE is to try one of two methods.
    The first one involves booming like crazy, 3 TC, lots of farms to build up your military. Use your starting tarkans to take out green. Then attack teal before a 20 minute mark, create additional reinforcements (kill off many vils to make room for 70 cav + 6 trebuchets) and attack blue, focusing on their TCs, Castles and vils. Don't lose trebs, shield them with your cav.
    a) you may want to bring 3 vils to repair trebs -- blue has many trebs as well
    b) you may also want to select weak cav to lure some of blue's cataphracts from the north and run to RED seconds before the battle.
    I managed to defeat the Romans within 30 minutes, but the dialogue made me lose the achievement by a few seconds (Fs in chat :)
    The second tactic is from this VIDEO. Use a lot of micro (or pauses) to attack vils building military buildings. You don't need to kill them, just attack the vil once and run away from their military and strike from the other side. All the while, resist the need to build TCs. 8-10 stables, a blacksmith and a market to sell stone will suffice.
    This time, I managed to win within 13 minutes.
    Good luck :)
    Many thanks to @T-West for showing me the second method :)

    An alternative, probably the intended and easier solution is this ( Rush > Boom > Siege instead of insane micro or for most people: 'pause').
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    I. The Alan rush
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    Flag all your cav to Alans immediately.
    Build order:
    3 vils on blacksmith first (and as soon as it drops, cav armor and +1/+1 in that order)
    3 vils on stable next (to get the speed tech and queue knights asap)
    1 vil to TC, 2 vils on one more stable and two archery ranges. Move all vils to TC when done and start on wood!
    When archery ranges go up, immediately queue cavarch as complement to your knights.
    While your first stable is around 100%, full knight queue and your tarkans should now land on the alan vil that always builds a castle slightly east of their TC (after encounter with wolf and the scout which you should both ignore at this point). Let your scout chase the vil and move the rest of your tarkans to its base. All cav to the TC, one tarkan south of TC and one north to check for vills building, two-three tarkans pick off the few military of the alans. Clear TC and vills and pop!
    Move
    Alans gone just under/on 3 minutes if done right.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    II. The Visigoths Snipe
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    As soon as you see the Alan buildings autodestruct, move your army near the Visigoth base and look for castle builders (usually near the river absolute south or behind the TC, rarely north of its first TC). Harass the visigoths until 5m30-6m and snipe the TC and vills.
    While you're doing this, you're also booming and slowly moving into food from wood, so move three vills North near the shallows @ red ally to get to blue (Romans). Build 3 stables there and a castle. Start queueing knights and tarkans (use the tarkan at stables tech) and place them on the shallows. When they're done, move them to the stone pile (also have 3 vills on stone in your base)
    You should have the visigoths crushed in 7m-7m30. If you have cavarchers remaining at this point (you shouldn't have trained more than 12), use them to harass blue while you boom (aim for vills). They should be sacrificed to make space for more trebs/tarkan/paladin.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    III. Boom into siege (if you save, this is your save point)
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    You now have approx 23 minutes to get a perfect boom, prep your army and siege blue base.
    You should be in imp no later than 20-21 minutes so you can start queueing 7-8 trebs and upgrade your knights / tarkan to paladin and elite tarkan in time.
    Command those three vills up north to evade blue and build a castle near the woodline @ northernmost corner (to prevent blue from building there in the future and for treb/tarkan queueing if needed).
    Your army should be practically ready at around 24-25 minutes and you should have popcap with at least 30 pally and tarkan in queue.
    Move all your trebs and a complement of 15 paladins + 5 tarkan to the westernmost opening of blue's base where blue will be mining gold. Don't attack yet and defend your trebs when you do.
    Move all your other paladins and tarkans (60/40%) to the easternmost TC (try to get under the wings) and snipe the TC, then let them kill off whatever aggro you have.
    If you time it right, red will be assisting you as well.
    After engaging in the TC snipe, they will pull aggro so you can move in your trebs from the left wing (quickly take care of blue mining camp there so the vills don't go building stuff)
    Snipe one castle to the right with your primary cav army and one or two to the left with your trebs to make a clearing for the bunkered TC. Snipe the TC as soon as you can.
    Spread out your cav and hunt for stray vills in the base.
    Note: While you're clearing blue's base, you'll get some losses but not that much. Use the reinforcements to hunt for vills below the wood line, they like to build south-southeast of their mining camp.
    And now, the 'Rome was Destroyed in One Day' achievement, lol. Pain in the ass, that one.

      Dunno if 2020 was different, but in 2021 I believe you cannnot win with this strategy if you allow Blue to build castles and towers unopposed.
      Gotta harass Blue a bit as well, and that actually more and more reminds me of T-West's strategy.
      Of course I'm no Viper, I suck, but I'm quite OK with micro.

      @@paulb7027 This is a writeup of the exact strategy I used for the achievement. Your red ally harasses blue a bit and the Goths are a pain to deal with if you let them boom. But yeah, changes to the game might have made this strategy obsolete. It's entirely possible.

A tip I would like to add that really helped me out with getting this achievement. Pressing G stops whatever action a unit is currently doing, so as soon as you see enemy Vills ungarrisoning due to a building reaching low health group selecting a bunch of Knights then pressing G has them automatically target the nearest unit (vills > military unit > building I believe is the attack priority), rather than manually targetting a vill.
    This vid really helped me out. I tried a semi booming strat with a TC, Castle, Blacksmith and 8 or 9 Stables, but didn't work out because I couldn't put as much pressure and all my Knights died. Then I went with a combination of this strat and The Clever Fool's post where they only targeted vills and TC's, and got it in 19 mins despite my terrible micro.

    Nice job as usual. We actually probably completed this one at the same time. My approach was not quite as refined; I only focused on disrupting Blue and then ran over Teal and Green, in sequence. I took around 28 minutes with a save, and ended with only 7 knights remaining. If you don't kill Green early, they will build 2 castles and train halberdiers; my solution was to bait their infantry with a scout. An important thing to note that wasn't quite as relevant in your case is that the AI will actually give up once they lose their TCs and villagers, regardless of the amount of military they've got.

      Knowing the rules for when the AI resigns can definitely help with some scenarios :)

    • @a_cleverfool
      @a_cleverfool 4 роки тому +6

      Definitely. Another neat thing is that because Teal and Green don't build Universities, their castles actually won't have murder holes. I also saw some pretty big plays in your video that may have gone under the radar, too however. Denying the green blacksmith early was massive, as was denying a few of the blue towers for the extra garrisons.
      Are you doing the No Wonder on My Watch next? I've got that one in the pipeline as I type and am curious to see how you'll tackle it. Do you ever do these blind?

      @@a_cleverfool I've done a few of these blind, mostly ones from the FE campaigns or the new campaigns that I haven't played before. The AoK and AoC achievements mostly follow the old speed running tricks, so I have a pretty good idea about how to tackle them ahead of time.

    So, I finally did it on hard. I feel like the newest DLC made it even harder. My first try, I used my initial tarkans to take out green successfully, and make cav archers + tarkans + trebs with a castle close to cyan to take them out around the 20 minutes mark. Then I turned to blue.. and nope. The army they have is massive with lots of towers and 3 castles. So I gave up, and thought about how to deal with them. I think you're right, taking blue out before they can build up is the right way to go, and mass knights is the best way to do it.
    So what I did was send 5 tarkans on green (enough to kill them completely if you are very careful with the micro), and the rest on blue, just to keep them from building a castle. I used the scout to draw the army out to red base. And then... I've put the speed to the slowest setting, and I paused literally every 2s because I'm awful at multitasking micro. First 10 minutes are a nightmare, and you must be very careful to not let a castle go up, and to not loose units stupidly. I messed up a bit with that (some buildings got up, like a tower, a siege workshop.. and some tarkans died) but I still managed to hold on. For the eco, on my first 3 vils, 1 for a TC focused only on gold, 1 for a TC focused only on food, and 1 for 1 stable, then 1 blacksmith, then 5 stables. Pick up the cavalry techs, and from them produce knights non stop.
    I had to send 2 knights to green to finish them off but the rest all went to blue, and basically denied every building possible until there was enough of them to take down the TCs. From then I just built a castle with some vils near cyan (but looking back it wasn't really useful), sacrificed 2 knights just to draw the army away, and used the mass knights to destroy the TCs, and the castle. Took me 18 minutes total. (but IRL much.. much longer xD). It feels a bit scummy to play on pause, but I would never be able to do it at an higher speed, my actions per minutes are waaay too low for something like this. Still pretty proud to have managed to do it on second try.

Legionnaries (unique Militia upgrade for Romans; upgrade that replaces Two-handed Swordmen and Champion for this scenario) are tougher and hit harder than regular Militia upgrades. Centurions (unique Unit; Cavalry that replaces Cataphracts for this scenario) are more difficult to handle since they have an aura that provides increased attack speed for Militia-line units (YES, THEY BUFF LEGIONNARIES).
      And to top all of this, Romans have a unique Tech: 50% faster training for Centurions, Militia & Knights AND gives a Charge skill to Centurions and Legionnaries (next attack deals +5 damage on 20 secs cd).

      It is possible to do this by taking the opponents on one at a time: mass knights as quickly as possible -> attack the romans with your emtire army while continuing to spam knights. Take out the alans (cyan) next. By the time you reach green you will be met by a few castles but your army should still be large enough to deal with that. It has been a while since I hot the achievement, but I believe I was able to finish it within 14 minutes. Was quite satisfying to get after many failed attempts.

  • @serenedreemurr
    @serenedreemurr Рік тому

    Yeah I don't think this one is possible on Hard now. I can kill both Green and Cyan in 10 minutes while reaching Imperial, but my economy is like complete trash at that point. And the first wave from Blue is around the 20-minute mark and that wave is so brutal that my initial army of around 80 knights and tarkans (no Imperial upgrades because I need the resources to boom) are completely wiped by that wave.
    Ended up having to play normally, and even that my paladin army got wiped 2 times later before I had to switch to an AI army composition (rams + cav archers + halbs + paladins). But after I breached their defense, they just stopped making anything.

    • @poklours4257
      @poklours4257 Рік тому

      Ignore Cyan. Focus on blue and green and overrrun cyan with the army instead of trying to overrun blue.
      If you're still stuck on that, I wrote my whole process in another comment, it's not pretty, but it worked xD

      But I managed to obtain the Achievement with a slightly different method. Rather than attacking the three factions at the same time, I put a huge focus on the Romans. Once defeated after maybe 5~6 minutes, I pushed the other bases with my army by attacking Forums, Villagers, Barracks and enemy soldiers. So they ended up giving up by destroying their own castles.

    I've attempted this mission around 20 times so far and, still, I couldn't beat it. I'm playing it in August 2021, on Hard difficulty. I'm using the strategy presented in this video, but to no avail. I'm trying to micro, to harass both Blue and Green but they keep repelling me. Sorry, but the devs exaggerated with the level of difficulty, it's a fact brought up by many players. Even pro players find it difficult to beat this mission. How, then, is an average player supposed to beat this mission on Hard? This is not fair, imho. An average player has no chance of beating this game on Hard difficulty if they're not skilled enough. This means that part of the game experience is unavailable for some players. It's frustrating.
    Campaign missions shouldn't be more difficult than 1 v 1 games. It's in solo games that you're supposed to show skill. Campaings should teach you how to play and present a considerable level of difficulty. What I've experienced in this mission is telling me that some players have to concede with never being able to squeeze the full joy out of this game. Sad.
    I don't find it enjoyable and yet I've always loved AoE games.

    • @matys6760
      @matys6760 3 роки тому

      I tried a couple of time again, this time focusing only on the Blue. I did everything the same way you did in your video and I wasn't even able to keep up with killing the massively recruited villagers, let alone snipe these who were building castles, barracks etc. Plus, when you reached blue base, they had much fewer soldiers. When I reach it, they outnumber my 10 Tarkans 2 or 3 times. How the fuck am I supposed to micro in such a battle? Not everyone is TheViper. Beating this mission on Hard is impossible for some players. The imbalance in this mission is clear as the day.
      Besides, when I look at the way the AI behaves in your video, I noticed that, for example, Green stopped defending the base. So, either the AI got even more muscled up with time or I don't know what happened. If the devs think that making the game impossible to beat in certain missions will attract the attention of more players, then they're wrong. This game used to be much easier and enjoyable. It's a pity that I won't be able to tick every mission as beaten on Hard, but this is the way it has to be. So fucking sad.

    • @RAMMY237
      @RAMMY237 2 роки тому

      I believe since the time this vid was recorded, the devs added more starting units to the opponents for Hard difficulty in most of the campaigns. E.g. in Barbarossa's "Pope and Antipope", on Standard you can just travel with your monks and convert the Cathedral right away, while on Hard you won't be able to get even close to the goal :)
      But I see no problem with that. If you want this game to be easy, just play on low level -- it indeed gives you an experience of relaxed playing. Otherwise, Hard wasn't much difference with Standard, and as the result all the campaigns were boring for experienced players. Nowadays it is more balanced -- if you want it to be challenging, you set higher level of difficulty.
      ps. I started playing campaigns in DE around Nov 2020, and when finished around 60% on Standard, I decided to play the rest on Hard, and finally ended up re-doing the WHOLE single player on Hard :)

    Tried this one several times, I don't have that insane apm/micro... I just can't control two armies in two different locations, and I'm trying on standard. I killed green and then teal quite easily with initial tarkans + kns, and then I try to rush imp and kill blue last, but I still can only finish him off by around 35 minutes, by the time I have enough army blue already has 3 castles up and lots of catas and scorps and also lots of trebs of his own.
