Katy was always a singer/songwriter first and foremost. She is pop right now because, frankly it sells and she has to crossover to be known as a world class artist that she is. I haven't seen her live, but maybe she occasionally does a Gospel sound here and there.

I was just listening to this song with the band. The only difference here is that you are able to hear every word she sings. She needs to learn to control her voice as she hits the lower register and also pull back a bit on the high notes so it doesn't pierce the ears . Other then that she sounds good. I'd say very talented.
katy doesnt have terrible performances .. i know she is not always perfect but she is great singer ... but she wasnt in good condition twice when she sang firework at MTV and now people judge her ..thats kind of unfair :)
