In today's video I let you know my final predictions for Semi Final 1, including the predicted split result and orders.

Hi, Rachel. I love your channel! Italian here. We almost always deliver a great song and only Måneskin got to win. I'm not particularly crazy with our song this year, but I'm madly in love with the UK song, Space Man (by Sam Ryder). Absolutely delightful song, arrangements, vocal performance and lyrics. I don't understand why it's so underrated.
Thank you for taking time to remind people about common decency! Most people would just ignore and accept the fact that some people don't care about others' feelings in the internet but you always call them out. It helps reduce their numbers.
This is what I think might happen
1. Greece - Takes the jury win. They staged this really well. I don't see the televoters ignoring it either, especially cause they are towards the end.
2. Ukraine - I think Ukraine is going to push for the televote win, but I _think_ they just might get the 2nd spot on both sides. This is one of my favorites though, and I'm totally open to the idea that this and Greece could be switched.
3. Norway - Not sure why, and maybe it's a little bias in my mind, but I felt really underwhelmed by the Netherlands' performance (and I LOVE the song). I can see the wolves just passing S10 here because of a lower televote than expected for her. High impact towards the end, without being too much in-your-face.
4. Netherlands - Juries are going to push this one, but I can see the televote being on the lower end of the top 10 and therefore I see it dropping to 4th overall.
5. Armenia - This is another one of my favorites. Juries I believe will enjoy this one, and I see the televoters responding in a consistant way as well, bringing her 5th.
6. Portugal - I see this one doing decently well with juries, and dropping down to 6th with the televote.
7. Latvia - No comment. I expect it even if this would not be something I want.
8. Iceland - Controversial, but it's a little bit of magic this one for me. Beautiful harmonies that could be jury bait. Probably the one I'm least confident about.
9. Albania - I am so unsure about this one right now. I LOVE this song and Ronela, but I'm not sure this appeals to the juries much, and I think the televote will help her out and bring her through, but it could also be the shock NQ to me. Like Iceland, I'm very very unsure.
10. Lithuania - I just want Monika to go through! I hope this song, after Albania and Latvia which both are a bit "shocking" (I don't mean that as a bad thing or insult, just to be clear) and very in-your-face, I hope that she'll create a wow moment. Not at all confident, and this could be replaced by Switzerland or Austria (my borderline no's)

I'm sorry for the mean comments, you are one of the best Eurovision analyzers and you are always very polite and explain your points carefully. Just ignore the foul mouths, there are always dickheads on the Internet.
The only differences in my 10 qualifiers are Moldova and Switzerland to go through and Austria and Latvia to miss out. I just think Austria's vocals will drag it down too much and I am quite unsure if televote will vote for it when there is Norway which is also EDM style. Latvia will also not score very high with juries and although it is fun, I am afraid some people might find it too silly as well. It does not sound as professional as Norway, which also has a fun joke entry .
About Moldova for what I have seen in jury rehearsal people seemed to be vibing a lot with it, it's a very fun song and I think it will make it through in the last qualifying place. Switzerland it will probably make it through due to vocals, I do not like it very much but I can see the jury saving it.
I really hope you are right on Lithuania (my favorite) and my country Portugal! Thank you and enjoy the show!

Your predictions are 9 out 10 same as bookmakers in this SF, so that means you're fully objective and reliable with this. People out of punting maybe don't agree with their country as a NQ, but life is based in percentages, and ESC is based in a sum of what juries will think + what people (not eurofans, casual viewers) will think. So, yeah, I found very accurate your predictions. Anyway I wish 1 or 2 surprises to put some spicy in this haha

I agree almost 100% with your predictions!
In my opinion: Greece, Ukraine, Netherlands, Armenia, Portugal and Norway are safe qualifiers.
The remaining four, I think Albania will qualify and the remaining 3 are very unpredictable, but i do not believe Lithuania is going to qualify

Watching this video after SF 1 is really fun and I'm impressed by how close you were ! I'm glad you were wrong about Moldavia tbh, I really love their song but I wasn't expecting them to go through either. And really disappointed for Denmark and Slovenia, they are so underrated

Love this video! You and I have very similar predictions, for very similar reasons, which was nice to see someone else thinking like me! :) I was really bullish on Albania until that rehearsal clip and the fact that it's going first. But I really like the song so I hope she nails it and it goes through. Same with Austria, really. Overall, you and I only differed on Lithuania. I think Slovenia's charm will see them eek through on the televote, and Lithuania's song is, for lack of a more polite term, rather bizarre and inaccessible to younger audiences.
To be honest, I hope and believe that Slovenia might be a qualifier. Maybe a bit like Belgium last year, but here I feel like there is also quite some unexpected support from the audience. Still, this is going to be pretty close as there is some good competition in this semi.
If Slovenia qualify, I will be overjoyed!

1st thing- I love your systematic approach. When it comes to predictions I'm starting to think you're the most trustworthy among the ESC vloggers. I predict and also wish I see the same qualifiers as you see. It's equally nice for me to see either Austria or Moldova but I think even despite the vocal problems, Austria and especially the song and the genre deserves to be decorated and granted a place in the final because we've seen Moldovan motifs in many years but a good EDM song we don't get to see very often so this year I'd say Austria deserves. I think the song itself will be appreciated after all even by the juries (way more than Moldova) especially the jury members involved in the Radio business. Netherlands 2nd with juries above Ukraine and at least 4th with televote, maybe even 2nd. I don't think we'll ever see Latvia 3rd in the televote especially when going after Ronela. Albania is in no way that low with the televote, it's probably top 5-6. Her moment emanates empowerment and freedom of expression which will be abundantly gratified by the public. If Latvia qualifies it's gonna be a tough call, 9th would be highest they can get. It's gonna be a rather tight battle for the win in the semifinal between Ned, Ukr and Greece with Ukr probably taking the edge. Anyway solid top 3, i'd say intact, nobody can really get there. Also what i feel is Austria is qualifying after all, i think the moment will be too fun not to go through and the EDM fans will surely still push it. I like seeing Lithuania included, I felt it just deserves to qualify since the songs were selected.

@@ThePeaceAround i just found it worked for a couple of You Tubers I follow - one of them a trans woman but I guess it doesn't for everyone. I think we can relate to not dealing on bad days. It's bad that it's just so prevalent it's an occupational hazard for anyone online.

I agree with your top 10 qualifiers with probably one exception.
For me that would be Switzerland.
Now I admit that I feel a bit underwhelmed with the rehearsal clip and feel like he could have done much more with the staging concepts.
But it’s still a great song. My dad is 70 and it’s one of his favourites. My mother really likes it too.
The UA-cam Eurovision community haven’t rated it highly but they are mostly young people and they are always after the instant bursts of beats and rhythms, and most of them don’t appreciate truly good music.
But it doesn’t mean that the wider public won’t appreciate it.
I’m gonna take a chance and say they will get it, and so will the jury.
Although I agree with you that I think it does look as though he should have done more with his staging.
But then again the kinetic sun has made the staging awkward for a lot of acts to a greater a lesser extent.
Who will lose out if Switzerland get in?
I’m going to have to say Lithuania.
Originally I was quite confident she would qualify since she is a great performer of what isn’t a great song.
But her staging and performance skills really elevate the song.
However, she’s been done dirty by that horrible kinetic sun blocking her LEDs.
At least most of them.
And for that reason alone I think the song won’t elevate to where it was destined to be.
You’ve persuaded me that Latvia will qualify. Although I wouldn’t want to put money on it. I certainly don’t think it’s a comfortable qualifier. But you have persuaded me about it Rachel.
And finally Moldova, not a chance.
It never stood a chance in my sight.
For about 6 weeks it was in everyone’s bottom 5 until a small group started to rate it much higher and in no time lots of other copycat UA-camrs jumped on the bandwagon.
And in no time the song was been overrated.
But I don’t see the wider public buying it. Musically it’s just not got enough variety in it.
They might as well have only recorded about half a minute then copied and pasted the rest of it.
It would make good local music in Moldova local folk music.
But for Eurovision, its too throw away.

Rachel, I am not a huge fan of Eurovision, and it's veeery seldom that I watch "reactions". This year is an exception, because of our Kalush Orchestra participation at Eurovision 2022. Thank you for your respectful analysis of this entry. I have watched some "reactions" (which was mostly like Oh/wow/lifted eyebrows kind of reactions, which is neither fun nor development)). But i want you to know that you are and amazing person, and i love listening to your commentary. Its sooo refreshing to listen to a person who looks at Eurovision with a more musical/musical theory point of view. Its so interesting getting a more musical insight into the songs. When you explained how the Portuguese song is in 3/3 tike isntead of the usual 4/4, it made me like the song even more!

Latvia is a strong 9th favourite to go through in odds. I think people are aware of this after the rehearsals.

Thank you for your analysis. A lot of my favourites in this semifinal are not too popular, and some of them will probably stay in the semifinals, unfortunately. Hoping for Lithuania and Portugal at least, Slovenia and Iceland would make me happy but most people do consider it unlikely.

As you may know I am from Turin but I am gonna be watching the ESC on TV just like you.... Sunday night I went to the Eurovision Village in the parco del Valentino where there are beautiful concerts for free...In the same park along the Po River they put also a big maxi screen for those who want to watch the show in a crowd on the grass of the park... No, I prefer watching it from home...

1. Ukraine (my predicted winner of the whole contest)
2. Greece (Jury bait, televote will also love it)
3. Netherlands (Also jury bait, televote will also like it)
4. Norway (juries will not love this but will not hate it, televote will push it up)
5. Portugal (juries will love this and televote will also like it enough to keep it in the top 5)
6. Armenia (Mid qualification for both jury and televote)
7. Latvia (televote will push this massively)
8. Albania (disappointing performance imo, wanted this in the top 10 of the final. Now i see it at around 19th place)
9. Moldova (This will go through because of the televote, although, if any of my predictions are wrong it will be this one, i find it unlikely that all 3 quirky fun songs will make it through)
10. Switzerland (Juries will push this up massively)
11. Lithuania (idk why this just gives me 11th place vibes, i hope this goes through tho)
12. Austria (same with this one, 12th place vibes and the vocals need full surgery)
13. Bulgaria (same with this one, for some reason i feel inclined t place this 13th, juries will push it up more and televote will not put it last)
14. Iceland (same with this lmao, just seems fitting)
15. Slovenia (pains me to the core bc this is one of my favourites, if it goes through i will scream but ive accepted that this won't do well)
16. Denmark (just kinda bland, juries and televote will not appreciate this)

Your concerns as to people connecting with a song in a language they don't understand is a (with respect) very British-centric view. Most Europeans regularly hear songs that they probably don't fully understand. It's the vibe and the authenticity that count.
No you’re absolutely right! I should be more aware of the concept. I guess I meant that because English is widely spoken, the songs in English will have the advantage of being ‘understandable’. But it is all about the vibe and atmosphere like you say.

I have the feeling that Portugal will be higher and I keep my finger crossed for that. I think that people will also love it. It is slow, it is a ballad, but it is memorable :)

Our predictions are almost identical, I think I'm torn between Iceland and Austria for the the last spot. I just think the Austrian song will be so dependant on the final performance that we probably won't have an idea until we see it!

In terms of the semi, I look forward to seeing Switzerland qualifying, but I know it won't as the staging Is rubish.
Well, I made rough list of qualifiers a week or so ago, but that was before any rehearsal clips were released. My list of qualifiers back then (in performance order) was:
Albania
Lithuania (still not sure about this one, to be fair)
Ukraine
Netherlands
Moldova (tenuous because Moldova LOL)
Portugal
Denmark (tenuous)
Austria (tenuous after the rehearsals)
Greece
Norway (never in doubt)
As for the others:
Latvia - I LOVE this song, and I want it to qualify, but I went with my head and said no. Maybe I'm wrong.
Switzerland - meh
Slovenia - Another one I absolutely love, and like you I will be keeping an eye on them. Again, I want them in, but fear they will miss out
Bulgaria - meh
Croatia - meh
Iceland - meh
Armenia - this was the one I was most unsure about. I think I may change my mind about this, as the expense of Moldova.
I'm not making my final decision until they've all performed in the semi, and before the voting closes. I think one or more of Latvia, Slovenia, and Armenia will change lists. It all depends on what happens on the night itself.
I thought you were going to get the clean sweep for a moment, but then you said Latvia and Albania and I felt like England had missed a penalty in a World Cup final. I was gutted for you.

I like your videos. You are interesting to listen to, but I think that the whole entry of Portugal does not need to be understood fully to be appreciated. It still is a beautiful package as it is staged and you feel that they are singing about something that means something. I don´t know any Portuguise and I reacted with strong emotions to it without knowing anything about it and I don´+t think I am alone in that. Because they are a groupe and give you that groupe feeling that they sing about something that means something. Also they sing: "Nothing more that I can say says it in a better way". That makes a big difference. They seem sad and and sing a word over and over again, That makes you curious about what Saudade means I would say. So I don´t think this song will struggle with the televoters.

I've already given a more or less final prediction on RAJC's channel, but I'll repeat it with a bit more conviction. In running order:
- Albania
- Latvia
- Ukraine
- Netherlands
- Portugal
- Austria
- Iceland
- Greece
- Norway
- Armenia
Some of these (notably Iceland and Latvia, and not having Lithuania) are risky, but I'm basing myself on a mix of historic results, diaspora, reviews of the jury final, and fandom choices. I'm sure I'll get at least one or two wrong, Lithuania, Moldova, Switzerland and to a lesser extent Slovenia all have a chance at challenging, and Albania and Austria have been less impressive so far. That's my final choice, it's risky, but I'm sticking to it ^^
I think the funniest moment will be if Bulgaria qualifies. The fandom would be shocked to the core. I like how you’ve got Iceland in there - it could be an underrated gem that sneaks through! Let’s see :)

Yes, I just have a gut feeling that ONE song that seems like an "obvious" NQ will go through at the expense of another that was more favoured before. Iceland is the most likely candidate imo, since it just has something so enchanting about it. But yeah, we wait and see, not long now 😃

What makes me wonder a little is how Denmark got SO many televote points in the semifinal last year... also with a song playing into nostalgia, just like this year. I think they will be 9-12th most likely NQ but that televote number still makes me wonder, I really didn't expect it

We have 7 consensuses. There are sure non qualifiers for me and deciding the last 3 qualifiers among the remaining was very difficult. Instead of Latvia, Lithuania and Austria I put Moldova, Slovenia and Iceland through. I'd love to see Latvia in the final, their song is in my top 10 but I'm just very worried that jurys put it so low that a good televote result won't save them. Lithuania I'd like to see in the final but I just don't see neither voters nor jury ranking it high enough. Iceland, my no. 1 this year, could possibly stand out because I think their music style differs from the others. Same with Slovenia, my third place this year. Like you I wasn't sure if I put Moldova or Austria through as my final qualifier but then decided to put Moldova through although after listening to your prediction with the jury putting it last, which could happen I'm even more unsure but for now I'll leave it like that.

In my opinion lyrics do not matter that much when speaking of public votes. Yes, they are important but for me as non British person I never hear lyrics for the first time listening. That's why i think non english songs could be as appealing as english ones or even more.

I'm don't think Austria's gonna make it whereas I think Moldova will. Pia seems to be struggling to nail her vocals and DJs don't tend to do well aka Poland 2018 and Finland 2019 - the youth vote didn't come through for them - Austria doesn't have a great dispora vote either but it's borderline. I could be wrong though.
I don’t know if diaspora affects things as much as people think, I mean Romania and Poland have a lot and they’re some of the worst performing countries.

I also agree with Moldova NQ, I agree and think Norway and Ukraine will strongly dominate the televote and Latvia will just be able to get enough from it. I doubt three ‘joke’ entries (N,L,M) will qualify but I do think Norway might NQ with juries but they’ll have plenty of televote to get it through, and I’m praying for Austria, I love it sm.

This year is so hard to predict! I don't think I have seen two predictions the same yet! Semi final 2 is even more difficult I think!!!
I am starting to think that The Netherlands will not do as well as the Eurovision bubble are expecting it to. I think it will still qualify, but I don't think it will be high up with the public vote from the casual Eurovision viewers. The staging looked a bit empty and just seemed to be missing something to me in the rehearsal clip.

i think Armenia is overrated and there is a high factor something goes wrong with the staging and Latvia doesnt have that much going for audience(sure some jokes but thats it) which they are relying on, i do think LPS is going to qualify(barely) because a lot of the audience does like their performance and it is jury friendly, iceland has the problem being compared to portugal.
