I've actually won a lot of stuff from that key in the hole game (including a Pokemon themed 3ds a few years back). My trick is to get two people to look at the machine from either angle and time it out with eachother. It's actually pretty easy if your all in sync.

Yeah they're rigged, with that said if the place you frequent is super busy there are rare potential for you to win, though you need to know when the payout is. Also a lot of machines are put into corners to stop people from doing the angle thing, along with a mirror in areas to make it even more confusing. D:

I assume with the Elvis game, with how old it is, it was intended to use quarters.
I went down to Florida one time and saw multiple coin pushers in a store that weren't even motorized or anything. You just dropped quarters in and hoped that the force would cause some to fall.
The intent of those machines is more aligned with actual gambling, you filter in quarters and will often get few back, but have a chance to get a huge break and have a ton to fall!
Too bad replacing that with tokens defeats the whole point.

    • @CakeShake22

i'm so mixed-feelings about these videos.
on one hand, i'm obsessed with your arcade videos and i think they are my favourites to listen to and watch absentmindedly while i play my video games or draw.
on the other hand, i'm genuinely worried that encouraging you to make more is literally an encouragement to lose money.
but if/when you DO have the money for these kinds of videos, they're easily my favourites! keep up the good work!

Awesomepelt On one hand, yeah he’s probably not making a ‘ton’. On the other hand, it’s advertiser friendly content so he could be getting good advertisers on the videos who pay high rates (coupled with being able to write off all these video arcade expenses as tax write offs because making it a video makes it a work expense) he is probably making at least a small profit, and he likely makes the bulk of his money from supporters on Patreon and twitch who are looking forward to his UA-cam content

I remember going to the arcade with my dad (PuttPutt, Mountasia, or Nickelmania).
My dad loved the coin pushers and he was always just as excited as me to buy some prizes.
We'd split our winnings and Id get a brown bag full of kiddie nailpolishes, "chinese finger cuffs", and mini plastic toys, and hed get anything starwars related and a bunch of oversized candy.
Really sweet memories, brought me back.

These machines are a poor imitation of what a real arcade experience is like. These barely entertain you and you're mostly playing for an external, physical reward.
Round1 is the closest thing to an actual large-chain arcade these days because while it might have some of these same machines, they have a large selection of fighting game cabinets and rhythm games straight from Japan.

i used to work at an arcade with a wizard of oz machine, one thing i remember was that the chances of toto dropping were also determined by how many toto cards were redeemed the day before. at the start of the day, we would count up how many had been redeemed, and if that number went above a certain amount we would put the rest at the top so they had basically 0 chance of dropping. idk if that's what's going on at your arcade (the one i worked at wanted ppl to win as little as possible lol) but it's a possibility.

The key game is not even rigged, it’s broken.
The toys are held by cable wire, in a position that makes them hard to push, and the key pushes only .5 psi.
Also most machines are programmed to only dispense items, at 300 to over 1000 dollars.
THEN, in lots of places, it’s policy for store employees to refuse giving the item to the recipient, and then put it back in the machine.
