Haitus Kaiyote's music sounds like a fusion of Jazz, Soul, Funk and Progressive Rock all in one beautifully wrapped package. Definitely one of my favorite bands of all time.
Not just a fantastic band. All brilliant musicians one by one. Seen them live a few times and they always sound amazing. Lace Skull is also one of my favorite songs.
You should definitely check out more of their work off of their album "Choose Your Weapon". There are a ton of great live performances too! "Building a Ladder" is one of my favorites. Probably my favorite active band. Great reaction and great analysis! :)
H.K. fan here, bumped into your channel, doubtful at first, but then you straight away nailed the harmony! You know what you're talking about. Great job. Subscribed 👍
This is probably the best kind of "reaction video". It's cool to see you dig one of my favourite bands, but i didn't expect the value of you talking about the harmony/chords etc. Gonna watch more of your vids then. Cheers!
Here because I'm a relatively new fan of Hiatus Kaiyote as well! Liked your thoughtful and revealing assessment of "Jekyll:! I see from the diversity of the videos you have that you definitely love music that's "out of the box." Where can I send you suggestions? I have a few bands you might want to check out...
Always enjoy other's introduction to things (good things) they were otherwise unaware of..like you with H.K. So glad you recognized their musicianship, changes, and subtleties the casual listener might glaze over. Personally, I like seeing the background singer's movements during the song and how they simultaneously seem both in and out of sync with each other...feeling the groove in their own personal way. It's cool! Haven't checked out your channel in detail yet but, in the event you'e never heard of Snarky Puppy...better strap in.....here's an example, enjoy! ua-cam.com/video/L_XJ_s5IsQc/v-deo.html
4:10 Correct me if I'm wrong but if it's D minor modal music, it's in Dorian, there would be no Bb in the key signature. Playing a Bb or a C# in this setting or any modal setting would be a big stinky note, unless you're trying to play something stinky. Modal jazz is full of natural natural 13s and flat 7s in the solos. I literally can't think of a single modal solo (Dolphy, Coltrane, Miles, Shorter, Fuller, Hubbard, McCoy, etc.) that uses the harmonic minor scale.
Bro you buggin! You should listen to the albums You will be very sold on the fact they remotely one of the biggest phenomenon mid 2000s 🤣🌺🔥🔥🔥 they crazy dope Eargasms And now they are now signed by brain feeder I’m the likes of Thundercat / Taylor mcferrin And all the expriemental progressivo
I dont wanna troll, just give my reaction to your video. I think it serves noone and nothing to interrupt the listening to play chords by yourself, thus cutting the song, ... and killing it. At least listen to it once, straight up, and then come back to it, with constructive remarks ; not expandable anecdotes. I'm pretty sure you know what you're doing, etc. You're a professional, and I'm not - i'm an amateur musician. But this format doesnt work for me, at all. Just saying. Cheers
