      @@OmniAtlantic The difference between the carbon and aluminum in the overall price will be only about 10%. Also, the epoxy bond between the timber and the raw carbon that is already an epoxy bond, will be much stronger than what the bond onto aluminum would be.

      As the side stocks? If so, no problem but adds to the cost. The Mahogany we use is close but not as strong. In our case, we don't need added strength as the carbon is already very strong.

      @@axelherrera8447 Doesn't really make sense with teak in my view. Most mahogany, as far as I know, are lighter and as RA explained, the side stocks are not there for strength but solely for buoyancy. This means, if you use teak instead, you would need more of it to obtain the same level of "lift" which results in a bulkier gun.

    I am excited but I think that the hooks could cause problems with other lines being caught. I think that the gun would be easier to load underneath with a side mounted line release

    • @RobAllenSpearfishing
      @RobAllenSpearfishing  2 роки тому +1

      If you look closely, the hooks have a protective 'ramp' preventing any lines hooking. We have tested these in 100's of pool shots with not one hook up we also have many guns already out an in use with no lines hooking up. We are also testing a side line release. So far all good but more testing is on the cards to make sure no issues.

    Hey rob, I love your spearguns. I've got more than 20. Do you have plans of making a 3 band timberline gun of various lengths (90cm)?

    • @RobAllenSpearfishing
      @RobAllenSpearfishing  2 роки тому +1

      We are developing a 3 band muzzle and a double roller muzzle at the same time. These will only be available for the Timberline guns. The gun mechanism needs to be modified so that the trigger pull will feel the same as a 2 band gun. These new parts will take about 6 months to complete.

    Hi Rob, I am slightly bummed as I ordered an extra band to have on hand for my brand new 120 Timberline Roller. The replacement band is the 70cm. I just realized that the current band is different than what is tied on to the gun.
    Can you please provide a how-to tutorial for making/modifying/fitting bands onto the carbon roller??? I paid $55 for a band I can’t use unless I were to buy a $18 anchor bolt which would render the multi point pretension useless.
    I love your guns, I just would like some assistance :) thanks!

      Hi Jared, Sorry it took me a while to work out the problem. As you have discovered, the issue is that the Timberline takes a different rubber set up to our standard rollers. The fact that these Timberline guns are so new on the market, we are still "learning" new issues. This is the first time we have had this and, it's something we had not taken into consideration. By changing the Timberline rubber anchor points we now need to offer two types of roller rubbers. You asked for a spare set of roller gun rubbers and were sent what goes on our standard, non-timberline guns, not the retailers fault. As you have seen, the Timberline has 2 anchor points which work on a closed loop rubber. The advantages of this is the ability to change loads and, the rubber can't jump out the gun due to it being a closed loop set up. This means, to exchange the rubber, you need to loop it though the rollers then tie into position. All you have to do to fix your situation is change out the two end loops for a standard wishbone. There is a way to knot it but I will need to go through options. I'm sure you have seen the way you can set up your rubbers with small loops on the ends of rubbers that then give you the ability to tie in a length of Dyneema, if the Dyneema needs to be exchanged. Sorry about this but we will definitely work on an option that is simple to use. Please feel free to email me on rob@roballen as I often miss UA-cam comments.

      I see! I also picked up on the fact that the rubbers for the timberline are a few cm shorter than the standard rollers. I have to cut them down to size anyways and when I do that I will insert a new wishbone and tie that. Super easy fix! Thank you!!

    It seems clunky having to tie a wishbone after you put the rubber through the rollers and takes away an advantage that I see from rollers that it is easy to change the shaft and band set up during a dive and when in storage and wash down being able to pull the rubbers straight out was everything and store it away. Could you use smaller loops and tie a short dyneema line between them or does it get caught?

    • @RobAllenSpearfishing

    How many 16mm bands can the vector 2 handle carry?

    • @RobAllenSpearfishing
      @RobAllenSpearfishing  Рік тому +1

      I answered your previous question regarding the handle being able to shoot with 3 x 16mm bands if you use the new trigger and sear designed for the 3 bands. It will probably hold 7 or 8 in terms of the strength but you will probably not be able to pull the trigger. If you could, the recoil would hurt your hand unless the gun was ballasted to handle the added recoil.

      Sorry, not available in aluminum. We also don't know of a glue that will stick properly to an anodized aluminum surface.

    • @jacodewet296
      @jacodewet296 2 роки тому

      @@RobAllenSpearfishing understandable. Wouldn't roughing up the aluminum and wood a bit then glue hold it enough to then add screws toe the front and rear of the gun where the muzzle and back where you'd add the roller anchor work? Just a suggestion😂😂 would really like a gun like that but I would never financially recover😂😂 love the concept and so on and would definitely use it. I'm in Port Elizabeth or what ever it is called now and the water here we dive is dirty 99% of the time so shooting in under 5m viz so short roller with lot of power is ideal for hunting the cracker. Planning on buying a 90 snapper roller once I have enough finances. Anyways just an idea to work with. But understand the problem with the glue. Will think of a better solution💪

    • @RobAllenSpearfishing
      @RobAllenSpearfishing  2 роки тому

      @@jacodewet296 No problem bonding to the wood but if you scuff up the ali will mean damaging the anodized surface. Also, any holes in the tube in between the 2 sealed plugs will create a leak, especially over time when the corrosion happens. This will occur over time due to the use of dissimilar metals. S/S screw and ali barrel. I'd hate to develop a gun range that starts to fail prematurely.

    • @jacodewet296
      @jacodewet296 2 роки тому

      @@RobAllenSpearfishing understand that. I'm talking about the holes that are already there. The one at the muzzle and the two at the back where the handle connects. Another option which could also work is building rob allen wood guns with no pipe. I personally don't have too much experience with building guns so don't know how difficult that is but it is another option

    • @RobAllenSpearfishing
      @RobAllenSpearfishing  2 роки тому +1

      @@jacodewet296 We can't use the existing holes because they are already holding the handle and the muzzle. To add the timber will make it too thick and, we will have to develop a whole new model/shape of the timber. The reason we combine the timber with the carbon tube is because the carbon tube alone is way stronger than a hard wood. This enables us to keep the stiffness without having to add greater dimensions to the timber. The thicker the timber, the harder the gun will be to maneuver. It's all a trade off, we think we have hit the "sweat spot."

  • @SpearFisherPitZ
    @SpearFisherPitZ 2 роки тому

    I think that 2x14mm bands easier to load(and mostly unload!!!) and shot the same and may be better. Wood base makes difficult the hunting on a current, even to move on fins. For me best solution would be 2 roller with 14mm bands without wood, may be Y-scheme where main band with daynema inside, Alemanni uses it. Your slip-tip is good. What about magnetic slip-tip?

    • @RobAllenSpearfishing
      @RobAllenSpearfishing  2 роки тому +1

      2 x 14mm on a 7mm spear are great but, the single 14mm on a roller, set up correctly will drive that same 7mm better, especially on a short gun. I agree, a large wood gun is difficult to maneuver because they have to add much more volume to get the correct stiffness. Our Timberline guns have very little added width. The fact they are lighter, less effort is used to lift so more is available to swing. Uses claim they are more maneuverable that conventional pipe guns. We don't make slip tips, we make drop barbs 😜👍 We can't use magnets as the stainless steel is not magnetic. The O ring we use is more than adequate.

    • @AntiVaganza
      @AntiVaganza 2 роки тому

      @@RobAllenSpearfishing I'd buy into the more oval shape being easier to swing. A pipe gun with a shaft and two bands isn't actually that hydrodynamic and if you try to swing it fast, you can actually feel it wobble. Likely from the flow detaching and reattaching. An ellepsoid shape of the same height as a circular tube can easily have half the drag of the pipe (depending on how flat of an ellipse we are talking). So, even it the Timberline barrel is a few mm taller than a stock CF barrel, the more elleptical shape will, likely, still make it a whole lot less draggy.

    • @RobAllenSpearfishing
      @RobAllenSpearfishing  2 роки тому +1

      @@AntiVaganza Exactly. This is why guys must feel these Timberline guns feel easier to swing. You are right about the wobble felt on a standard pipe gun. I use this wobble as an indicator to tell me I'm swinging the gun to fast. I think that wobble can scare fish away. When excited it's otherwise difficult to realize your movements are too fast.
