It makes me feel like something is here. Right next to me or behind me. I can’t tell if the feeling is comforting or terrifying. It always makes me cry even if I’m not sad. Tears just start flowing and I get overwhelmed. When it ends and I stop crying I just feel so empty but in a good way. This song makes gives me chills and sparks panic. Personally, this is calming for me. Kind of like the feeling when you're drowning, but you're at peace in yourself. Like your lungs are filling with water, but somehow you know everything is fine.
The sound of sharp piano notes always makes me anxious. One of my teachers was playing calming music for a test but it had sharp piano in it. The high keys and spacious sound gives me a bit of anxiety but this song puts a sense of comfort and calmness to the anxiety and creates a whole new emotion for me.
Well try listening to it at night, or in the dark while your alone, during the day it isn't the same since you really don't have that same sense of awareness, but at night everything changes, your more aware more... awake (in terms of your senses) I guess you could say, but yeah try at night, or early in the morning when its still dark, this song really breaks the silence around you, and then when it ends the silence isn't the same...
if I may psychoanalyze, that might be because your understanding of anxiety is such that you’re able to suppress it. both extremes of people who have little knowledge or a lot of knowledge about mental health are very sensitive to subtle alarm cues like shifts to and from major to minor key. having been very invested in twenty one pilots, I know that tyler structured this song this song specifically to make people uncomfortable. if it calms you, I want to say that’s either because you’re very well adjusted or suppressing something. I love explaining this stuff bc I’m a pretentious college kid who needs to stop trying to unearth her childhood and PACK lmao

This song always either gives me anxiety or it doesnt. Usually when i listen to it durning the day i can handle it, and i can appreciate it for the amazing song it is. But then when i listen to it durning nighttime.... its a whole different feeling. It almost feels like a completely different song. Love this song. It's so seemingly simplistic but simultaneously incredibly complex. The major and minor chords, the slight discordance that creates the eerie and uncanny affect, the almost frenetic pace of the high notes with the drums, but the slow, almost lethargic movement of the low notes, drone, and vocals. Delightful to me personally, 10/10 for a walk in the fog

It makes me feel like walking around in a field at sunrise with no other noise around and a light fog around the trees. I started heavy breathing like really bad when the song was half way. It felt like I couldn't breathe because there was a lot of pressure, almost like ton and ton of water weighing down on my chest and yet I can't seem to lift the weight off. This song is powerful. It evokes some sort of emotion I can't fully understand or haven't felt before. It feels hopeful in some sense, but also terrifying beyond my worst nightmares. This song is expressing the feelings of both Tyler and Josh when a band member had left and it was only the two of them, hence the lyrics and title. It was a very fragile time and they were having some serious doubts about everything. The song makes me feel like I'm floating in Space. Weightless, staring at the stars. It's beautiful, but you also know that your suit is the only thing keeping you alive. One small accident could damage it or whatever links you to your space station. If that where to happen there would be no chance of going home and you'd be floating in the empty nothingness for the rest of your life (which wouldn't be very long at that point). It sound calming, even to the point of accepting death. There is nothing you can do against it, so why fight against it when the time has come.

@@Reminji It really isn't very dissonant. The only thing that i could think that could maybe make people feel a little uneasy is the E flat. Also dissonance doesn't necessarily cause anxiety, I've heard very calming jazz songs with plenty of dissonance, even microtonal dissonance sometimes. I think the atmosphere and timbre of the song is what causes unease in some people. I don't find that this song gives me anxiety, however i do see how the kind of surreal soundscape could make people feel weird and like they are somewhere they don't belong, kind of like some radiohead songs do.
@@lostecho4394 it's not the E flat, its the D#aug that feels uneasyafter the G chord, especially since it immediately goes against your expectations after hearing a major G. Its also the fact that when the second piano starts playing, it essentially plays a pattern of D - D# - D - D#. I mean you're right about the fact that the distant voices and echoing piano add a lot to a sense of loneliness and unease but there's definitely a lot of dissonance in here, even if you cant immediately see it by the chords

Overall, this is a very special song and the way it impacts people is fascinating!

I started heavy breathing like really bad when the song was half way. It felt like I couldn't breathe because there was a lot of pressure, almost like ton and ton of water weighing down on my chest and yet I can't seem to lift the weight off. Thankfully, it went away when the song ended.

This song is powerful. It evokes some sort of emotion I can't fully understand or haven't felt before. It feels hopeful in some sense, but also terrifying beyond my worst nightmares. Like there's something I'm facing that I've been pushing down for so long I can't remember what it is. I feel something I can't explain, and maybe that's what Tyler intended.
To me this sounds angry, but in a passive aggressive way. Like a calm anger that you can only feel.

It reminds me of how I felt before the bandito tour started. I was so calm to finally be home where I belong and safe, yet anxious that I’m about to see my favorite people and it’ll be over again. That’s what the song means to me, it’s really special.
Me too. My first tøp concert was a few weeks ago and holy hell. It felt to amazing to be with so many people just like me, where we all were about to witness the people who saved us, right in front of our eyes. It was overwhelming

This song was made to recognize the deep cuts of one of my favorite bands...TØP. This song is expressing the feelings of both Tyler and Josh when a band member had left and it was only the two of them, hence the lyrics and title. It was a very fragile time and they were having some serious doubts about everything. This song resembles the fact that even the most perfect people had to have battles and scars in order to make it to the top.

goodness ,the power that tyler has in just singing a few words is almost scary.
its almost like a siren song, it pulls you in but to warn you. when i close my eyes i immediately imagined an ocean (mind you im pretty bad at imagining things ngl) i was swimming in an ocean almost at the top. but when the off-like notes in the song hit i would look down and see a huge shadow thats swimming parallel to me. its creepy yet calming.

@@Reminji It really isn't very dissonant. The only thing that i could think that could maybe make people feel a little uneasy is the E flat. Also dissonance doesn't necessarily cause anxiety, I've heard very calming jazz songs with plenty of dissonance, even microtonal dissonance sometimes. I think the atmosphere and timbre of the song is what causes unease in some people. I don't find that this song gives me anxiety, however i do see how the kind of surreal soundscape could make people feel weird and like they are somewhere they don't belong, kind of like some radiohead songs do.

@@lostecho4394 it's not the E flat, its the D#aug that feels uneasyafter the G chord, especially since it immediately goes against your expectations after hearing a major G. Its also the fact that when the second piano starts playing, it essentially plays a pattern of D - D# - D - D#. I mean you're right about the fact that the distant voices and echoing piano add a lot to a sense of loneliness and unease but there's definitely a lot of dissonance in here, even if you cant immediately see it by the chords
