I made it! It is really neat. The inner cone is tricky to get to stay in the shape correctly but I managed it by putting a few drops of hot glue on the base inside the cone placement and putting that inner cone on first. Then I quickly added the outer cone onto it without getting glue on that piece and let it cool. Once that cooled, I removed the outer cone and put a lot of hot glue in the inner cone so that it will hold it's shape. I love how it turned out. Thank you for sharing it!
I love this channel - I think I will get my kids doing some personalised dice trays for a pandemic forced home school project. Thanks very much for your time.
Oh fantastic idea, I hope they have fun creating those trays! 😀 (Make sure the paper is well adhered to the cardboard - I don't know if I made that clear enough in the video. And score those fold lines well to make folding easier.) If you want more crafty projects for the kiddos I'm hoping to have a sock puppet making video out within a week or so.
I love your intro! Thank you for this upgraded dial counter!!! Btw, I saw your dice tray and Im so glad you uploaded a template,it is so unique and creative!! This deserves much more likes!!
Wow I love the board game related stuff. Keep it up! I would love to see more DIY components that you can incorporate in games. Also a video on how you make these templates would be amazing!
This kinda thing is my jam! Great production on the videos as well. I was wondering, is there any chance of doing basic board game DIY stuff? How to make a bi-folding board, homemade tokens, ect for print-n-play/prototype games? That stuff exists on other youtube sites but if you keep up with this kind of thing it would be nice to have here - all in one place.
So glad you like it! I was trying to do projects that had something a little unique over what has been covered in other existing videos. For example, I want to show how to make a card storage box, but I want to make sure I have a design that feels more premium/unique than a standard tuckbox, since that's covered so extensively in other videos. However, if you think the style/format I'm using would make it worthwhile, then I could consider doing those more standard PnP instructions as well. You make an interesting point about the "all-in-one-place" benefit. For those that haven't checked them out already "Dining Table Print & Play" ( ua-cam.com/users/DiningTablePrintPlay ) and "Pub Meeple" ( ua-cam.com/users/pubmeeple ) are great options that I use for long-form in-depth PnP instructions.
Not gonna lie, I'm going to try this. I will take a freedom of modifying it for DnD purposes. In DnD, HP for bosses (and players at certain point) can exceed 99 points, but your tutorial showed me how to do it nicely. Thank you so much! EDIT: I just came with an idea how to make it fancy. Find a fancy sheet of paper that absorbs ink. It will make it look so nicely
@@scurry2175 Overall smaller diameter or thinner (lower profile)? If you want thinner then you might be able to cut down the height of the conical cardboard section and then glue on metal bottle caps. The serrated edges might look cool once painted/covered in tape. I know some water bottle caps are much shorter than others so you could keep an eye out for those as another option.
@@WoodfishToys I'm thinking to make an overall smaller size of the whole thing, printing them out in 50% of the size or something. Bottle caps would hence be too big for that. Maybe it'd make the gluing process rather difficult as well?
@@scurry2175 Ah ok, that would be neat to try! Maybe try that with thick cardstock instead of the cardboard, and then you might want to switch to white glue for the flat seams (the hot glue might be too thick). Not sure for the small control knobs - I think I'd look at some toy car wheels as a starting point.
Ya, I think it would work fine with just one dial. Just note that as designed, you would only get numbers from 0 to 9 with one dial. (With the original 2 dials you can make numbers 0-99.) Hope this helps!
This is incredible! And thank you for the templates! Is there a way to make the PDF form fillable to easily edit the numbers on the dial for OCD people who want it precise?
Hi, thanks for the question! I find that scoring and pre-bending is essential for getting a good shape when doing projects like these. When an edge is pre-bent before doing the gluing step, it really makes it a lot easier to have it form into the right shape as you glue.
@@Tomek1949 The blank version was just in case someone wanted to write in their own numbers (for a different typeface or wanted the numbers going in the other direction)
Love this project, thank you so much for making this!
Thanks for this, I just used your instructions to make a dial indicator to leave for my milk delivery person. Brilliant and easy to follow video.

Great video. Exactly what I needed to upgrade my dnd setup. My players will love it.

I've been looking for this kind of dial these days.
Thanks for the free file and tutorial!

@@WoodfishToys I'm wondering if this can be done in a smaller size. Any idea on the substitute for the control knobs if to make them smaller? Thanks!

Wow thank you for this! Just want to ask if ill just split this in half if i just need 1 counter?

Nice! Would be great to have a simple gear to move the decimal number when you reach unit 9.
Ya I like the way you think! I made a design exactly like that in laser-cut wood, but I couldn't get it to work well in cardboard.
Wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure!
Cool idea and well executed. Personally I would make it with an Arduino 😆
Nice vid, I subscribed.
Now, what I need is to shrink that down to about the size of a quarter.
That's amazing! Thank you!!!!

Any possiblity for a template for a dial counter that goes from 0-10?
Is there a way to add more numbers

What's with PRE-BENDING or CREASING these fold lines?

@@WoodfishToys But why the blank template?
@@WoodfishToys Also, just like Nintendo Labo, there are fold lines that you need to crease or pre-bend.

If you connect multiple counters together, you can make a bigger one!
Please make it of three digits brother please😢
I would love a 3 digit one
Google Drive wont let me download the templat. Someone can help me?
Oh come on! You can also print on regular printer paper and color it in with markers and pencils!
Wowwwwww

I hope you make more videos someday, unless it is not life giving for you to do so.
But only 1 dislike?!
Now there's no dislikes at all! Cool tbh!
