Christmas Cuvée Casks: Epicurean Glasgow Edition v. Bushmills Causeway Collection 10yo

- We're down to the last couple of videos for the year, and I had a couple of ideas for what to do for the Christmas one. And then I threw them away because I wanted to do Irish and Scottish Lowlands malts finished in what appears to be STR casks made from Champagne base wine barrels. Because I'm weird like that. We've got a high proof Epicurean from the Douglas Laing house (and I liked the basic one, if you recall: • Douglas Laing Blended ... ) and a Bushmills that's actually well presented and yet from Bushmills themselves rather than the Knappogue Castle folks (see • Knappogue Castle (Bush... ). Stats:
The Epicurean "Glasgow Edition" Lowland Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, Finished in Ex-Cuvée Casks (Douglas Laing; no age statement, bottled 2023, 5100 bottles; 50.4% ABV), 85/100
Bushmill's "Causeway Collection" 10 Year Old Irish Single Malt Whiskey, Finished in Cuvée Casks (Distilled 12/31/10 and aged in ex-oloroso and ex-bourbon, recasked on 3/27/19, bottled 2021; 54.8% ABV), 86/100
And I don't really know what else to say, other than: beware, I kind of like these but most traditional malt fans will absolutely hate the mango-meets-Belgian-tripel thing they both bring. But they're relatively affordable, and they're well-presented, and in categories where that intersection of factors is rare. Happy holidays, I guess! 🎅
