I just made one, the easiest cell phone holder ever, I made it in about 10 minutes. I just used rice and a little bit of stuffing. Thanks for the printable pattern.
It was Wonderfull! I made one for my husband and I taught to my stepdaughter to do one for herself and she is really happy with her plop...she puts her phone at any place...these are perfect presents...I am even thinking to make to my friends for the 14th of February. Thank you Rob!
I made one today quickly (and it's a brilliant pattern!). I've noticed that it's also great for a Nintendo Switch, and is much better than the kickstand. Thanks for the awesome tutorial!
I'll have half of my extended family Christmas presents done before St Patrick's day! UPDATE: Consider making one using laminated fabric for the kitchen: My sisters-in-law are going to LOVE them when they cook right from the web!!
Mrs_Badger At_Home I've never heard of laminated fabric... Did you make some using it, and if you did can you post a pic or message me a pic of it. It sounds like a great idea!!
Rob- frigging awesome tutorial! Question. What is the advantage of using the denim over 100% cotton? Thanks very much and keep up the great tutorials! Happy New Year!
Love this! Gonna make a bigger one for my Kindle. I was thinking, how about adding a few drops of an Essential Oil to the crushed walnuts? Make it smell good!
Rob...I don't know if it was intentional, but the brown plop with the eyes looks like the poop emoji. Lol great project though....I'm gonna make one today, just not with brown fabric!!! Haha 😀😄
That's a great idea! I have a Samsung, it's about the same size as an iPhone 6. Don't forget my tip in the video for making it a little bigger if needed!
Rob, hey just make yesterday for my son Birthday gift he love it. he called me this morning. Mom . many thank it useful and his girlfriend want one so I get make her with Hello Kitty .. Happy Sewing. ☺😎
-- hmmm - think I might pin the pattern to the fabric - sew 1/4 in from actual pattern piece - trim - snip curves - turn - stuff - then close the opening - BAM I have my Plopper . . . LOL ... HAPPY HAPPY 2017
susan berry the only issue with rice is...if you spill something close or on it, the rice will expand and become moldy. Poly pellets can be washed without any concern. I don't know if walnut shells can be washed. Hope this helped!
Hey Susan, I got mine at Missouri Star Quilt Co. They're currently out of stock there, but if you add it to your wishlist they will notify you when they are available again. www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/4023/martin-tree-farms/-/1lb-bag-crushed-walnut-shells-from-martin-tree-farms
Great question! You could totally use rice, I would maybe make a special pouch to put the rice in, then put it in the plop. Even a plastic baggie might do the the trick in protecting the rice from fluids, and you could even add a zipper just in case it did get wet, you could change out the center! I hope this helps!
Hi! Made 3 charging stations for gifts, now I will make the plops to complete the phone theme! I can't figure out what kind of rotary cutter you're using or how to get one...can you expound on this? Love your quirky videos... thanks!!!
Well you are probably the coolest gift giver ever! It's called the splash rotary cutter by Olfa, and can be found by clicking on this link below. www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/12492/olfa/-/olfa-splash-45mm-rotary-cutter-turquoise
I definitely have to do this! Is there a special reason, except for style, for having a stiffer fabric such as denim, or do you think it would work with quilting cotton? And with the filling, do you think rice would work?
Lisa Lipkin an iron on stabilizer like Shape Flex 101 would make quilting cotton sturdy enough for this. MSQC carries it. I've used it to make little zipper pouches have more strength while using my favorite quilt weight fabrics, it makes it quite close to being like denim.
I really wish you could do the whole tutorial on how to attach the pieces. I hate the fact that you don't finish your projects. could you do another one with the hole project. Please..... Thanks
Out of curiosity, could you use sand? I can get play sand at my local hardware store, but the poly pellets might be a bit tougher for me to get in such a small city where I live. :) I love this idea! I may use some of my old holy jeans and reuse the material to make this!
Have fun creating your Cell Phone Plop, Jennifer! I've never used sand, but I have used crushed walnuts, which you can pick up at your local craft store or pet store.

Thank you Rob!
What a great idea! You could do them in all kinds of different holiday fabrics. How fun!

Rob- frigging awesome tutorial! Question. What is the advantage of using the denim over 100% cotton? Thanks very much and keep up the great tutorials! Happy New Year!
You could also use small beans/lentils too.
I was looking for a phone holder. Love those. Thank you happy new year 2018.
Fun! I can't wait to make these for all of my boys!
What a great gift idea!
Could you send me a link for the pattern, please? The one listed is not opening. Thank you for the video!
Like that, it's simple and the brown emoji is cute, big googly eyes lol
Hey Rob, is the pattern for your plop still available? Tried to access it but nothing happened😒 Love the look of it, it's so unstructerd.

Love this! Gonna make a bigger one for my Kindle. I was thinking, how about adding a few drops of an Essential Oil to the crushed walnuts? Make it smell good!

Ha Ha! I thought the same thing when I first saw it :P
Haha, I thought it was kind of fun! ;)
I wonder if putting dots of rubber cement or some other tacky glue would help keep the phone from sliding off the plop.
Awesome vid. I like the bigger of the two. But it's better than the other I tried to sew. Thanks
I love this! Making one today! Where can we get the new rotor cutter you are using? Love that too!
I actually designed this rotary cutter. It will be available for purchase soon, so stay tuned to Man Sewing!

Hey the link to the printable don't want to work.
this is awesome just made me one. Super simple!!!
I love this!! What kind of phone do you have, so I know for size comparison? I think these would be great sellers at a craft fair :)
That's a great idea! I have a Samsung, it's about the same size as an iPhone 6. Don't forget my tip in the video for making it a little bigger if needed!
How do you sign (Label) your quilts? Where can I buy ready to use Labels?
Rob, hey just make yesterday for my son Birthday gift he love it. he called me this morning. Mom . many thank it useful and his girlfriend want one so I get make her with Hello Kitty .. Happy Sewing. ☺😎

I want to make this , but the pattern link gives me a blank page..... Where is the pattern??
This channel ended 4 years ago. Maybe that's why the link is no longer working.
Rob is already working with a different team/channel now.
excellently :)
Muchísimas gracias :)
What sewing machine are you using?
好厉害!新年快乐😄
i can't find the walnut shells so i bought crushed corn cob. i think it might work out fine
That should work Brenda! let me know how it turns out!
Man Sewing I will :)
I found mine in our local pet store!! Also, it was a lot cheaper than craft stores and you get a larger bag.
-- hmmm - think I might pin the pattern to the fabric - sew 1/4 in from actual pattern piece - trim - snip curves - turn - stuff - then close the opening - BAM I have my Plopper . . . LOL ... HAPPY HAPPY 2017
Sounds like a great plan! Happy new year to you as well!
Great idea thank you!
Glad you liked it antoinette mitchell!
Crushed walnut shells - could they be substituted with dry rice?
susan berry the only issue with rice is...if you spill something close or on it, the rice will expand and become moldy. Poly pellets can be washed without any concern. I don't know if walnut shells can be washed. Hope this helped!
Jolene Shindler don't know where I would get the walnut shells from 😞
Barbara B thank you 😊
susan berry I found the best deal on ground walnut shells at the pet store! It's used in reptile terrariums.

Awesome...I love it...Hope I get time to make one today...Just not gonna make Brown!!!!! :-)
what size is the strap?
Is that a quilting machine?
You can free motion quilt on this machine, yes. However, it is not strictly a quilting machine. :)
I was wondering the same thing about using dry rice instead of wallnut shells or poly pellets?
You can use rice as well!
Could you use rice to stuff these? What are the disadvantages, other than if it got wet.
Great question! You could totally use rice, I would maybe make a special pouch to put the rice in, then put it in the plop. can t see how you are doing
You could not cut it out first. Pin the pattern and stitch around the pattern and then cut the pattern out with ur seam allowance added
You could do it this way as well Helen! :)
Oh Rob I'm not saying you can't do it your way. Sorry if it seems that way. I was just suggesting an alternate way
I definitely have to do this!
Is there a special reason, except for style, for having a stiffer fabric such as denim, or do you think it would work with quilting cotton? And with the filling, do you think rice would work?

Thank you for the feedback! Thanks for tuning in!
In the video you are placing right sides together!! The pattern says" Place WRONG SIDES TOGETHER while cutting!! So which is it?
Thx. Just made one right sides together. Came out fine!!
It should would work either way.
