    Few things. Great vid. We take 5 gallon buckets and burry them (deadhead) for tent tie downs.
    Beach etc for driving. People heading off island have right away, or, northbound. (Elderly taught me that years ago on Hatteras and Fort Fisher.)
    Ride around people at water, fishing or otherwise. Fill holes. All holes! Whether stuck or otherwise.

      That's cool info! We didn't see enough people to have to worry about right of ways. Most folks fishing were close enough to the water you didn't have to worry about lines. We did see some sea turtle sites that were roped off.
      I posted a new cape lookout video, do you think you could post these tips in the comments of that video? Tha KS for watching!

    As someone that has made this journey I will just say this you better have a truck that’s built correct for off Rodine or you’re screwed on the island you better have a strong tent or place to stay!!!You better bring your water and if you have a cottage you better bring a generator because power is not provided

    The road is bumpy because many people are driving too fast. It happens that way on gravel roads too.

    The wind on that island is no joke. It was windy pretty much the entire @week or more that we were there about 17 yrs ago. My ex and I had an Armadillo tent (family tent made by Walrus - they produced very well made tents for extreme conditions). We did stake down the tent as best we could and brought coolers etc to place at corners to help hold things down. The last day we were there, a big storm was building but we got out before real bad. Tent was billowing around the coolers.
    Packing up was absolutely nuts and if it were a cheap tent, I'm sure poles would have broken. DO NOT go there with a cheap, shock corded walmart special.
    After the divorce, my ex borrowed the Armadillo for a return trip and the tent did not survive - really wish I could've gotten it back to replace poles, though. He had to weather a bad storm. He ended up sleeping in his truck with nothing but peanut butter sandwiches to eat because he couldn't get out to cook.
    Most of what you see on that island are fishermen camping in truck campers. Definitely more sensible than tent camping in those conditions - mainly that if you're gonna be there for a week and there's an exceptionally windy day, you can relax inside, still cook, etc.
    Best bug prevention on the island: stay in the wind where the bugs can't fly.

      Great story! One guy I saw had a windmill to generate electricity in a giant offroad bus. Hahaha thanks for stopping by!

      @RavensEyeOffroad haha! A windmill would be a great idea! Yeah, there's not as many of them, but those big old rv guys have some crazy get ups. One guy had @25+ ft long gray spray painted land yacht with a feathered stuffed crow at the top of an antenna. Of course that was many years ago... lol

    Thanks for the video. Heading down there for the first weekend in May. Watched this to see what it might be like. I've camped many times on the OBX but never the "Crystal Coast" area. Hope the fish are biting when we are there. I know the beers will be good.

    If the bugs are "no see'ums" Skin So Soft (that is the lotion you never got the name for) works very good. Having spent a lot of my life on the GA and Florida Panhandle coasts that is what almost everyone uses.

      @RavensEyeOffroad  Рік тому

      I actually didn't feel that the ferry was all that expensive. Gas prices were way worse haha. Hope you have a great trip!

      @Ravens Eye Offroad We have to pay for 2 Gladiators on ferry. Gas prices here in west Texas are starting to go up again. Ugh.

    thanks for the video, very informative! when do you reckon it would be the best time of the season to go? Kinda worried about the wind and bugs etc.

    • @RavensEyeOffroad
      @RavensEyeOffroad  Рік тому +1

      If I were to guess, probably now.
      Everything is likely winding down for the season but it's still warm enough you won't freeze to death with the wind haha!
      We'd like to go again and just adjust a few things to make it easier.
      Good luck and thanks for stopping by! Don't be afraid, just be informed. :)

    I really like the price point of the roof nest awning but I'm wondering if the 40 plus square feet of the large wing is worth the extra $100. It looked to me like the small wing was plenty enough and was lighter too. 40 ft is a lot for only $100 more. Decisions decisions 😒

      My friend has the large wing. I have a drone shot of them side by side (bird eye view) ill send it to ya. Either is a good choice.

    Probably over current and the safety measure stopped the battery from charging. My Jackery did the same if I use more than one 100W charging a 300W battery.

      I think closer to the lighthouse area there are trees and things that will help block wind. It might be ok there. Use my sand bag trick and it might be alright as well.
      My sister ended up grabbing a random tent from Walmart and it was fine. Just be smart with placement. :)

      Doesn't matter what type of tent (don't recommend cheap shock cord stuff, though) - the wind is crazy. One of the other commenters said he uses 5 gallon buckets buried and filled with sand. I'd recommend that.
