    Definitely your hard work paid off, just like me I'm on my 2 and half year journey now on learning Japanese only self study, immersion, inputs, reading, listening, speaking hiragana, katakana kanji, I started on romaji and translation. And memorizing, flash card, watching you tube podcast, jpop,J Drama I Consume thousand of words and hundreds of phrases I acquired in different syntax etc. And now I enrolled a 3 month Japanese crash course and class lesson is so basic to me listening to my sensei all his lessons I already know. And on July I will take my first JLPT N4 exam.. Just like you Japanese indeed change my life as a whole, in a whole new level

    Great to see your transformation in these videos. A lot of people in the language community are pretty insufferable, so it was refreshing to hear your nuanced takes and see your growth not only in Japanese but also in other aspects. It would be awesome to meet up in Japan if you're down.

    I appreciate your thoughts on subtitles. I definitely got in my head about "relying too much" on subtitles and wanting to not stunt my growth I guess. They are comfortable for me now but I think at the time it was bothering me, I wasn't good enough to justify such as obsession with that I guess.
    Good luck on your aspirations. Very cool hearing what AJATT has done for you.

    This is a good video! I followed a similar path, starting probably 10 years ago, but I did All-Mandarin-All-The-Time instead of Japanese. Like you, it was one of the best things I've done in my life; I met a lot of great friends, learned about how a different culture views the world, and I got to live in Taiwan for a while, too. There's definitely a lot to learn about how to tackle learning a skill through AJATT.
    Also, I'm 100% with you in regards to subtitles. Basically all media in Chinese has accurate subtitles by default, and now that I'm focusing on French more, I really miss it. As long as you do some pure listening on the side (usually podcasts for me), subtitles really just aid in comprehension.

    We're true strangers but I'm so happy for you, you can say you're living the life now.
    About learning Chinese (with the immersion method), a major turn off for me has always been the ever present censorship of all media. Even on youtube you have to consider that you'll hear filtered content or lies; unless you only watch dissidents or Taiwanese (but that's not the Mandarin used by half the world...)
    How did you approach it, is it a problem for you too?

      I'm not really concerned... just gotta use citical thinking and common sense

      @@sevenstop41 Will you make a video down the line on how to find immersion content - chinese specific?

    To me, raw listening feels so much easier 🤣. It's maddening to not be able to read words I'd know in my sleep because they're written in the best writing system in the world. It's easily the biggest blocker to Japanese that I have, in terms of mindset.
    Related to that, a piece of advice to beginners: Don't take breaks early on. When you're just learning a new character, you will _forget it._ And when I say forget, I mean it. To quote David Moser's classic words, it's a "forgetting that is both absolute and perfect in a way few things in this life are." Holding on to Chinese characters is not something the brain does easily. It needs upkeep and repetition, especially at first, to really commit them to memory.

    Would be interesting to see a video about your spiritual journey, especially with mediation and your experience when you achieve samadhi.

    I want to ask about your anki decks study, when you were making your sentence cards and other pre made decks do you study those decks in one go or you study one at a time
    And how is the average new word number so one can progress quickly?

    • @sevenstop41
      @sevenstop41  3 місяці тому +1

      I usually studied them all at once.
      I think that 10-15 new cards a day is enough. I did 10 new cards a day.

  • @Snoopyx95
    @Snoopyx95 3 місяці тому

    Why is it not advised to spend more time than that on Anki? I feel like spending 15-20 more minutes per day to learn 15 additional new words is a much more efficient use of time than spending 15 extra minutes on immersion, especially in the early stages. Curious to hear your thoughts on this

    Can you say how much time you spend on Japanese in these 4 years? Did you do like 2-3 hours a day or 7-8 hours? I am doing around 3 hours a day (including in this 1 hour Anki) for around 2 years+ now, and I am still so frustrated when watching youtube videos. I hope it gets better sometime....

    • @sevenstop41
      @sevenstop41  3 місяці тому +1

      Overall average of 3-4 hours of active immersion (but less in the past year). If you count the passive immersion it's probably something like 8 hours a day or more. I did around 30 min of Anki a day and now I only do like 5 minutes.

    I'm sorry. I don't get it. How do someone can learn Japanese or another foreign language from scratch? How do you watch shows or read something when you don't understand anything? Thank you, Seven Stop.

    • @sevenstop41
      @sevenstop41  3 місяці тому +3

      You start by learning basic words and grammar. Then you fill in the gaps through context and looking things up when you immerse

      Thank you. I'm going to work on that. You are so kind. @@sevenstop41. If you can make a video about how to start learning Japanese from cero, it will be great. Thank you so much.
