Making A Machine That Makes Homemade Corrugated Iron (A New Type!)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 вер 2019
- Well it's taken a while but here is my latest invention - a machine that makes corrugated iron. It doesn't look like normal C.I. - because it's designed to be curved later.
The machine is made from dies and cogs and sprockets and bearings and spindles - and it works! I am very relieved. In fact it doesn't need too much pressure to work, so I can operate it by hand and it's all mechanical. The next step is well advanced - to extend the machine so it will roll the sheets into curves. All quite exciting, really : - )
Here's the cnc plasma cutter - xtremeplasma.ecwid.com/ - tell Rob I sent you!

Solving problems with limited tools shows the genius of a person. Well done sir!
Last time I saw similar machine live it had cost 10 million euro.
I have only recently found your channel, its inspirational, thank you for producing them.
On a sadder note, I just learnt of the loss of your son, I hope you are coping OK, it can't be easy.
Please Tim, tell it to my Wife: Every Home needs a CNC-Plasmacutter!
Dear Peter's wife, I understand your home is not quite complete yet. If you were to allow a small additional expenditure in the workshop, I'm sure Peter will repay you handsomely.
@@WayOutWestx2 Okay, now tell my husband I need one too!
Make one. I did
Dear@@sharonlong8969
LOL 👍👌👏
Best regards luck and health to you both.
@@Chr.U.Cas1622 Thank you! What a wonderful thing to say! All the best to you and good health and good luck!
I really like your "thinking aloud creativity", explaining the steps to successfully getting closer and closer to the desired shape.
Oo
Ingenious design. I love how you try to reverse engineer these processes and re-iterate over multiple prototypes until you find one that works just the way it ought. Many people don't understand the amount of work and thinking that goes into that sort of process. I don my hat to you. Well done!
Thank you. That's a kind way of putting it. Many would say I'm trying to re-invent the wheel for no reason. But it's all so interesting.
My condolences to you and your family sorry for you loss
My favorite part is when you say that every home needs a plasma cutter
Awesome dude.
Some days busy and sane is the best you can do Tim. :-)
Building things, learning things is my favorite therapy. You have taken it to the next level: sharing your experience. I am grateful.
Thanks! ❤️
I'm honestly loving this journey you're on, can't get enough of hearing how you're getting on!
I can’t imagine what you are going through with the loss of your son. You have my deepest sympathy’s..
Thank you, George.
We love watching your projects! You are an inspiration to all of us who are trying to figure out how to make something, or make something work. Can’t wait for the next installment! And yes, I have CNC envy.
So sorry for your loss I can't imagine how hard it must be for you and your wife.
I love your videos, your genius and practical skills sadly rare talents. It's amazing to see you and your wife work together truly inspirational.
Love it, so pleased you are still at it, thought the last video would be the last :) looking forward to the next. Keep up the good work!
Love it Tim! Always wonderful to see you work through these ideas
My condolences to you both over the loss of your son. My goodness, shattering. Staying busy can help. I am inspired by your hard work and ingenuity.
Thank you, Howard.
That is phenomenal. Amazing work and such ingenuity - looking forward to seeing the next stage
Thanks!
Amazing
At what thickness it can be used
The shop is like a playground for Tim 🙂
its a hospital for the mind and hand
Excellent work. My barn siding has similar corrugations, but perhaps deeper than you would like for rolling.
Awsome to see a youtube legend like yourself on wayoutwests channel
Aha! we are very limited here in our options though
That track system is the most brilliant thing I've seen on YT so far. Love from Romania!
Aw, thanks, Danut!
Eagerly waiting to see how to deal with the iron curving away.
It will be a revolution amongst DIYers if we understand the full process of making a level (or straight) homemade corrugated iron sheets.
Many thanks for the invention.
It looks like metal roofing material, which is brilliant!
Its so versatile! You can use it for housing animals or for covering insulation on buildings or as a roofing material.
I really enjoyed this video. Keep up the great work
I heard you mention your son...it's brutal to lose someone so close to the heart, you lose a piece of yourself...You're doing right to concentrate on projects...I like to devote what I'm doing to the one I've lost...It makes you smile to channel the love into the project...:)...Health and healing to you and yours...
Thank you Rob. And to you.
You're the man..If you stick to it you will make corrugated steel panels..The best kind is snap lock. There are no screws showing but on the outside corner finish ell metal..So roll on you smart Irish gentleman! Thanks for sharing !
I’m glad to see you are not giving up.
The old saying idle hands are the devil's playground Religion aside is pretty good advice . Staying busy help keeps the darkness at bay . Keep it going until you're done with it .
Amen!
Tim, you are one of the most brilliant people I've seen. I just can't believe the amazing things you make out of ordinary stuff and bits.
Ah, now. If I was smart I would have chosen an easier project : - )
Excellent work. Looking forward to new installments!
Brilliant. My wife loves your soft spoken voice and amazing contraptions as much as I do.
Very nicely done. You have a natural talent for problem solving. Keep up the great work and videos.
You Sir...are one industrious and very clever cookie.!. Thanks for posting.
I love your video's, Just started this weekend. You are a sharp character, even though you claim to be so humble in this all. Thank you!
Love the inspiration, followed through your last videos and am happy you didn't give up♥️♥️♥️
Sir - You will have better luck using STEEL rather than IRON. There is a huge difference between the two metals. Steel is much more malleable.
Bloody superb bit of work there mate ................Fantastic, thanks for the film.
My sincerest sympathies on the loss of your son. No parent should ever have to endure such a tragedy. On a brighter note, the amount of patience and drive you show in the design of your latest machine is amazing. You should be very proud of this accomplishment. Cheers.
Thank you, Tjkoker.
Great progress! Am loving this project!
Tim, it's a really great idea to keep yourself Busy, recently my grandma died and i had a crippling depression, but woodworking and History helped me a lot
Greetings from Mexico
Yes, putting things in perspective with history is very helpful for me too. Take care.
Tim, you are indeed a very clever man! Glad to see that you’re both still ticking along. Love the content and narrative as usual x
Thanks, Daniel. Yes, plodding along..
So fun watching your brain work! Thank you for sharing. ❤️
Even though Ed Sheeran says that the Irish who moved to the US in the time of famine aren't truly Irish. We feel a kinship of a place few of us see. My Father before he went to his reward was able to dine for supper with 2 spinster distant kin and he counted almost on par to the birth of us children. He did the Blarney Stone going on 60. He was plagued to chase a white ball, or as Mark Twain said, "A great walk spoiled by the white ball!" Glad tidings to you and your family.
Your ingenuity never ceases to amaze.
Amazed every time at your thought process.
Long ago I was a foreman at a cold rolling factory that made angle iron, c-channel and corrugated roofing. Bending from the center is correct but each bend should be slowly formed over a few set of rollers not a single set of rollers. The most important aspect is increasing the diameter of the rollers so the metal is stretched between each set of rollers. The stretching helps reduce the buckling and curving. If I remember correctly the rollers increased in diameter by about 0.09 inch between each station. The very last set of rollers did not change the shape but would be moved up or down, on one or both sides, to flatten the sheet as it exited.
Thank you - very interesting. I'm assuming you were forming much deeper shapes than I am though. I may have to put intermediate sets in between, but so far it's working quite well.
This is incredible. I'm willing to bet this does not look a whole lot different from what people who were developing rolling Mills hundreds of years ago did. From fighting material, to having to try tens of styles.
Bravo! Outstanding recovery of your idea and progress in making it. Hope that soon your corrugated buildings will be found all about the Emerald Isle. Thanks for sharing!
Well now, one step at a time. I haven't made one yet. But maybe one day..!
I love the way that you have continued to pursue your corrugated iron project, when you first started I did a Google search for hand powered corrugated iron rollers and they only show up in museums and last one I saw was in NZ.
I hope to change that soon : - )
Human ingenuity at its finest 👏👏👏
Love it mate, great ideas and execution in a home workshop
What a neat work-around! I love seeing updates to this "series"
Now I will have an interesting topic to discuss at dinner tonight! She is sure to be impressed!
Tin Tim. You are a legend among us mere mortals. I get excited before watching your workshop videos. I burnt the whole back of my hand pretty bad with burning grease and it just won’t heal. I know you are mourning your son which I can only imagine what you’re going through but let it be known you have given me strength to keep going. I can’t really do anything physically as my hand is knackered but your progress and determination is epic. Thank you for been you.
honey helps, doesn't it Tim?
Oh man! That sounds bad. Yes, honey is brilliant - but only with infections (and it has to be top quality honey too). Hope you find a way soon.
Wow great progress, keep it up! 😀
Brilliant, just brilliant, thank you for sharing sir.
I worked at a corragating steel manufacturing facility years ago. There were hard rubber roller wheels in various places, top and bottom to keep even pressure. That was for curvature. The crease rollers were gradual. All at once, but increasing in depth as it went. Otherwise, yours look really good. I would use it. The curved ones can be collared together to make culverts, for under driveways. Or small quonset hut pieces.
Well done Tim. I am seriously impressed.
Thank you, AB
Great progress, looks good!
Love your engineering talent. Also,. Im telling the wife every house needs a plasma cutter a im sure she will approve.
I have really enjoyed this project Tim, what an intelligent man you are
its nice to see you and your 'rib' building your visions together.. and yes to the plasma cutter : ) if you can find some used treadmills in your area , you may find a very powerful motor for your creations :D sorry for your lose sir.. peace and blessings to you both
I'm so impressed with you ingenuity. Well done you. X
Thank you, Adella : - )
Well done Tim, i love the ingenuity .
Thanks, Jimmy!
Oh, yes. That cnc plasma cutter is quite the useful tool. I'll have to wait a little longer for mine. After all, the lady of the house approved the milling machine willingly enough, but lets not push it. Your process and development are brilliant! Subscribed.
Tim you have forever changed how I look at my (corrugated iron) roof and chicken coop 😆 - each time a new “episode” pops up on UA-cam I actually chuckle out loud. Amazing stuff 👍
I feel the same about C.I. - perhaps it deserves an appreciation society : - )
Way Out West Blow-in blog I shall commence drafting the Articles for the C.I Society 😉
We are on a farm in Far North Queensland Australia Just found your channel like you we are always making something. John
Hi John. Yes, we live in a golden age of materials - it would be churlish to ignore them, wouldn't it?
@@WayOutWestx2 Yes and lots of nice tools nowadays. John
You see? That brain is like the energizer bunny, it keeps going and going and going..........! Well thought out! I can't wait to see the next installment, Tim.
Thanks, Sharon!
Came across your video by accident.
Love the simplicity of your design and the end product.
Sorry to hear about your son. I completely understand the burying yourself in a project or your work to cope with loss.
Thats exactly what I do too.
Keep up the projects and the vodeos.

Thank you.
Well done! Would love to see your homestead and beautiful country. So sorry to hear of your loss.
Thank you, s d
I wish I had your machining skills, looking forward to seeing the continued evolution. Thanks for sharing.
Really, I just have some drawing skills - the rest is an angle grinder : - )
@@WayOutWestx2 This is a hilariously modest comment. I get an unexpected amount of joy every time you publish a new video!
JUST FOUND YOUR CHANNEL NOT LONG AGO,LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!
A MAN WITH THE INGENUITY AND KNOWLEDGE THAT YOU OBVIOUSLY POSSESS SHOULD HAVE DOZENS OF PATENTS. OR NOT. ITS GREAT THAT YOU DONT STOP WHEN FACED WITH ISSUES!
VERY INSPIRATIONAL!!
Absolutely Brilliant Tim.👍
Witnessing your meanderings through this particular process remains fascinating, Tim, seeing your ingenious thoughts becoming reality. I can totally understand your current need to stay focused on the project, and it's now coming to fruition. A success. (By the way I loved it at 4.08 to 4.16 when you're saying 'sane and distracted' - so distracted, in fact that you miss the donkey eating its way out of the barn!)
If he's not eating his way out then he's eating his way in - as long as he's happy : - )
Enjoyed your video and gave it a Thumbs Up
Yay progression love the bids keep them coming. M
I'd call that a success.
Thanks for the video.
Well done Tim, and well worked out. Bumped into Sandra a while back in Bantry market with my wife and son, wanted to talk much more but it was a bad time/too soon. I love your problem solving and I am riveted to this project, you motivate me to proceed with some of my more ambitious projects... Top Job !
We'll chat one day - although I'm still avoiding town if I can : - )
Nice job 👍
That's completely impressive. Great bit of bodging there.
Bloody amazing
Very fine work sir.
