  • Cycle Touring Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way - Bike Touring West Ireland.
Cycle touring Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way, a 2,500km road up the west coast of Ireland, from Kinsale to Derry. The stunning Irish coastline lived up to the hype, and we would cycle the Wild Atlantic Way from South to North over 3.5 weeks. In this episode of the bike touring adventure, the British Isles cycle tour continues. On our cycle tour through Ireland, we’d ride from Cork to Galway, through wind, hail, and rainstorms. Despite the changing weather, the Irish hospitality we were treated to on our journey kept us going, as we were invited into local’s gardens and homes night after night.
2023 Update: These cycle touring videos were filmed back in 2021. As of 2023 Jill and I are no longer together and Jill is not affiliated with this channel in any way. Wishing her all the best for the future!

Wonderful video highlighting the beauty of the WAW. Sadly, Ireland, its history, culture and beauty seems to be a grey area in the minds of many British people and they do not think of it at all. Fair play to ye for taking the plunge. I am sure it was worth it.

Great video! Being Irish and having done a lot of cycling around Ireland and Europe in my youth I've been following your Irish adventures. Now you know why they call the west of Ireland "the land of the sideways rain" 😄.
People don't realise how much work and effort goes into creating videos like this so kudos to you and thanks for such a well made series.

Thanks for the kind words, so glad you're enjoying the videos! Which part of Ireland are you from?Haha that name doesn't surprise me at all, it was really brutal at times cycling through all the rain and hail, especially since we'd been very lucky with the weather for a few months and weren't prepared for the sudden change. Unbelievably beautiful though, some of the scenery was absolutely jaw-dropping.

@@TieranFreedman I always appreciate well constructed videos such as yours with the aerial footage and the editing etc. which is involved in producing such an enjoyable watch.
I lived most of my working life on the outskirts of Dublin but was part of a group of cyclist friends who did a lot of touring in Ireland and elsewhere.
For many years I also had a small cottage in Sligo right on the shores of the Atlantic which is where I regularly experienced the "sideways rain"😉
Now I've retired to Westmeath in the centre of Ireland, and although it doesn't have the rugged beauty of the west it still has it's own alluring charm.
I don't get to do much cycling now as I spend most of my time on self sufficiency projects, but your videos bring back memories of my youth and the freedom of the open road.
So thank you for that and keep up the excellent videos because they are much appreciated.

We passed through Sligo later on in the tour! Had an absolute technical nightmare with my laptop there so unfortunately didn't film as much as normal because I spent most of my time trying to fix it, but I think it should still feature briefly.
I always wanted to take a trip to Ireland's interior on this trip, but we were quite pressed for time with the fast approaching winter. Hope to make it back again some day.
Self-sufficiency projects sound cool! Are you producing a lot of your own food? We stayed with a couple of people on this trip who were doing similar things. Seemed like a very rewarding way of life.
Thanks again for the support, hope you enjoy the videos to come! Small teaser after the videos from this tour in the UK, IOM, and Ireland: I just wrapped up filming on a cycle journey through Israel/Palestine, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. Videos from that coming next year!

I am dying of curiousity whether you continued on to Shetland or if you decided hail on the Irish west coast in September was a sign that Shetland in December was a bad idea. Two points:
    (1) If a commercial TV company produced something like this it would cost hundreds of thousands of pounds, it would need a team of researchers, producers, directors, technicians, planners, insurers, laywers and ULTIMATELY you wouldn't get the real feel of the actual experience... (That two people can produce and present something better says a lot...) If this was COMMERCIAL TV, the presenters would pitch a tent in the rain and then retire to the nearest hotel!!!
    (2) The hospitality of the Irish people isn't exaggerated here. (Though I think the personable nature of our two adventurers goes a long way to engender that kind of friendliness and hospitality...) Irish people like the unusual. It's not WHY would you want to pitch a tent in my garden, but, erm, why might I object to that? That SOME PEOPLE said, "I don't suppose you'd want to use the shower as well, maybe do some laundry?" isn't untypical of rural Irish people. (Though I wouldn't try that in Dublin!!!)
    Absolutely brilliant presentantion and production.
    xx SF
