  • Some raw video of some beautiful cloud layers flying from Denver, Colorado to Lebanon, New Hampshire in my Mooney M20J. Extra credit: What altitude am I flying at? Answer is in the video ;-) Pilot quiz: am I required to use oxygen at this altitude?

Nice one Matt. Unfortunately, it's mid-winter down here, with freezing levels around 5000' and a fair bit of cloud for the next couple of months. Not much cross country being done, but we get the Mooney up whenever there's a sunny day. Cheers, Jim.

Thanks Jim! Yes, ice is a pain, isn't it, especially in a Mooney. Nice looking Mooney, btw!

13K ft.. I'd think one would want oxygen... Man! Talk about a 'Long Haul' eh?... Still quicker than driving! :)

correct and correct ;-) although if you go above 12.5k but less than 14k oxygen isn't required for the pilot if at that altitude for less than 30 minutes. personally, i use oxygen above 8k. much less fatigued after long trips. yeah, it was a long haul but beautiful!

If you ever need stowaways on a trip out West... ":^)
How many stops do you take along the way to fuel/rest? All my x-country drives from Leb to Nebraska/Wyoming it took at least a few days and that's with some long days of driving.

I'll let ya know! Haha. Might take her out to Oregon in the fall. On this trip, I flew back in one day, about nine hours in the air, two fuel stops. Thought I could get away with just one when planning but tailwinds weren't as good as forecast--in fact, headwind most of the way.
