As for why they seem unaware of the state of the world outside the vault, I suspect that it's a combination of denial and being actively shielded from information. Who is restricting the information then? My guess would be the vault AI, probably under orders from Vault-Tec _and_ Ezra Parker.
Don't need to filter out information nobody asks for. These robobrain arseholes could not be more oblivious to anything outside their narrow focus. I mean they should have figured out what was going on long before you show up. Sheer curiosity should have ensured it. Instead they actively ignored pretty much everything else around them. hard agree! The story and humor really hits at what I love most about the extended Fallout series and world. It’s goofy and dark and weirdly existential in the best way.
I love this one, the dialog options are pretty funny. I always laugh when the robots attack while he tries to sneak out. It's great when the writers add funny stuff like this to the game.

I wish that the main character's(Nora or Nate) had dialogue about the famous people from the vault. If they knew any of them and were excited to meet them or anything like that. Also, great video as always!
You should try this with Valentine. He adds interesting additional unnecessary dialogue and if you dress up as the silver shroud. Well it actually increases the dialogue punch you look like a detective
Robots in general in the Fallout universe seem to have difficulty understanding the actual nature of the world, which we normally write off as a programming limitation, but maybe it's more endemic to the technology that creates such self aware robots. Maybe imprinting a person's memories in a robot isn't enough to overcome it. I personally think the robobrain isn't truly the person it was made from, it's a robot that integrates memories and the personality of whoever was used to make it.
Interesting. For some reason that reminds me of the synths, particularly Nick Valentine. He's an imprint of a pre-war detective, and is over a century old, yet he can recognize the world around him, is self-aware to the point where he knows he's not the 'real' Valentine, and still hasn't gone loopy. I wonder what the difference is-- maybe it's putting the actual brain into a robot that causes the issues? Maybe it's just that the Institute managed to improve the technology? It's been years since I've played so I can't think of a good answer.
@@AC-th4ci Synths were designed to be humans, or, well synthetic humans. I think whatever technology they work on is just different. The Gen 1/2 synths don't even seem self aware, it's like they had to iterate on the technology until they achieved something like human sentience.
@@AC-th4ci The Institute is using new technology, even if it is based on pre-war tech to some degree. But there's also the fact that the Institute was programming their synths after the bombs fell. The existing state of things was essentially preprogrammed into their synths, so their synths have no problems with reacting to the current state of the world. It's exactly what their programming would predict. Meanwhile, all the pre-war robots were programmed to exist in a very different world/environment. Their programming just couldn't prepare them to even acknowledge what happened, let alone really process the changes. And when they get too confused, their default seems to fall back onto a long-buried military routine, in other words, violence. And it is entirely possible that the US military may have demanded that all robots be able to be "drafted" in case of an invasion to fight in the military. It wouldn't even be unprecedented. Prior to WWI and WWII, loans were given from governments to passenger liner companies to build new ships on the condition that if war was declared, the ships would be pulled into military service. And included in that, the ships had to be built to certain specifications. Ofc, the ships that did end up being called into service turned out to be terrible military ships in WWI, so by WWII they used converted passenger liners into troop carriers and military hospital ships which worked a lot better. The main problem was the lack of plated hulls, so enemy fire just punched right through them. Nick is an interesting case, but as we do see in the Far Harbor DLC, he has his own issues as well - primarily with memory storage. Ofc, I've also got my own pet fan theory that the Sole Survivor is a synth that's had the original's memory/personality/etc imprinted on them - and that that was Father's actual experiment. And in that way, a synth boy with his synth parent with neither aging is a lot less... problematic? IDK. But I always play as Nora. As Nick, it does make sense that he's able to handle the post-War world - he is a retired soldier, after all. Nora, on the other hand, was a lawyer and that's really about all we know about her. It's a little odd that she can just pick up a gun and take out a bunch of raiders followed by a deathclaw without at least an emotional breakdown after the fact. And then there's the little oopsie where the Sole Survivor can use VATS before they get a Pip-boy... I know that's probably just because Bethesda forgot to restrict VATS prior to picking up the Pip-boy, but it does lend evidence towards the Sole Survivor being a synth seeing as there's an entry in Robotics that describes synths' eyesight/reaction time in a way that perfectly describes VATS.
@@SadisticSenpai61 You overlooked one thing, mate, Synths of the caliber that Nora/Nate would be, are immune to radiation, Nora/Nate isn't. Even with maxed out rad resistance, you aren't gonna pull an immunity to it, even with power armor.
@@Princess_Celestia_ I haven't seen anything showing that Gen 3 Synths are immune to radiation. Gen 1 and Gen 2 Synths, yes. Gen 3? No. In game, Gen 3 synths take radiation damage and can die from it. Obviously, some characters are given special boosts and are essential, but that's more for plot reasons than anything else. Oxhorn did a bunch of experiments on the topic. It's the first topic in his video "The Top Myths about Synths BUSTED - Fallout 4 Synths"
Ah yes my favorite quest in the entirety of Fallout 4. If I remember correctly it was heavily "inspired" by a mod for Fallout: New Vegas but for the life of me I can't remember the name of it right now.
@@renaigh Which high horse are you riding here exactly? Bethesda ripped off the mod because it was good. I don't even mind the ripping off part if it means better writing from them but crediting the mod author or just outright hiring them would be preferable.
I don’t know if you remember but like 2 years ago I commented telling you about this vault and you said you found it and thanked me. Glad the video finally out man 🎉
In fallout 3, there was even groups that survived the blasts. Was quite horrible as they quickly ran out of radiation poisoning treatment and died quite painfully
@@renaigh I chuck it up to survivor bias. You see a lot of Ghouls, sure, but not a lot of pre-war ghouls. The few who are had to witness their family die either in the blast or around them. It's a simple game of numbers, perhaps some genetic variant enables ghoulification in small portions of the population, and when the bombs fell, you had billions of people suffering from that radiations, if only a few millions survived the initial blast and only 0.1% of that population becomes ghoulified, you can still get thousands of these pre-war ghouls. Excluding those who die from other causes over the century and those lost to feralism, you get a handful that may still be Littering about the post-war wasteland. It's just that the rate is unclear, and the exact process was never clarified. We have the Vault 12, the survivors from which formed Necropolis; and we have Vault 34 in New Vegas, where it's not clear how many of the dead vault dwellers there died from the armed insurrection and how many from the radiation. But it seems to me, not even in-universe, do everyone turn into Ghouls in the Fallout games
In fo76 there was a robo brain used to test nukashine. It even explains where it pours it into itself. So I think they can "drink" in a sense but not eat.
This is one of my favorite quests in Fallout 4. The campy, over-the-top acting the player does is just beautiful (Nora does it a bit campier, I feel) and the twist at the end is beautiful. Thank you for this deep-dive into a fantastic bit of lore.
I just realized, Keith might not have been the one that Ezra framed for the murder, he might've made it look like an amateur framed Keith because he actually wanted to frame Santiago trying to frame Keith poorly.
About survivors outside the Vault: as far as I can tell, the Island of Far Harbour was not hit directly by any nuclear bombs. The main indication for this is that there is no big, glowing crater like the Glowing Sea anywhere. This is a bit strange, since it seems that Chinese authorities were aware of the submarine base, something I'm sure they would have seen as a priority target. Seeing as how the Island and its surrounding waters were anything but spared from nuclear pollution, my best guess is that a nuke _was_ launched, but missed and impacted in the sea somewhere nearby. I don't know of any evidence of this, but it seems plausible given the overall radioactivity of the area as well as the many, _many_ mutated aquatic creatures. The impact site would then also be the source of the Fog, I suppose. In any case, this means that it is likely that a lot of island residents survived the events of the war itself. Of course, many of them would then be without shelter from the fallout, probably wishing they hadn't survived War Day after all... As I believe you have shown in other videos, there is evidence of military activity on the Island that appears to have happened very shortly _after_ the bombs, which also points to there being active survivors at that time.
Interesting fact, the crater in the glowing sea wasn't actually left by a bomb alone, there was a nuclear power plant there that was struck by the bomb, the powerplant then went into complete meltdown and exploded which is why the glowing sea is so much more radioactive and contaminated compared to the rest of Boston
@@thenthapple The one I can remember without looking it up is the dead sniper in the tower of the abandoned church, but I'm sure I've seen other examples as well.

I came up with an idea almost word-for-word identical to the experiment for this vault almost a year before Far Harbor released and posted it on Reddit when someone was there asking about Vault ideas. I still love the fact someone at Bethesda had the same idea, but twisted it into a murder mystery.
I really never thought you'd come back. I'm glad you did. Your voice was a comfort then, and it is now. Not to mention your talk of one of my favorite series. With the recent lods of Mitten Squad, I'm glad at least one legend has come back to us. Thank you for being here.
Man this is top notch material. I missed plenty of your videos but I am sure you deliver and never disappoint. Thanks a million for your efforts. 👍 PS: I think the detective he is talking about and was requested was Nick Valentine?
It is also plausible that Ezrianna refuses the tune up because he fears it might lock him into her somehow, having gone a little batty from having to impersonate someone for a few centuries. Perhaps the real tragedy is that Ezra just it becoming loopy, throwing the blame and anger at actors as he acts constantly.
I've only once completed the main "murder mystery" quest. I usually avoid that part and loot the areas outside the vault because what's inside isn't really worth the effort.
The reality is that we have no real proof that any of them are who they are claiming or believe to be. They all recognize that a large amount of time has gone by but exactly what that really means to them is called into question. The artist claims he last painted with the pieces he shows us and that the cat was his most popular thanks to the commonfolk..indicating he hasnt really done painting for some time despite obviosuly having been painting and even admitting that a what he was doing at the time of the fight. The gut with the bat claims he has been in love with ezra for 200 years and has been doing activities with him such as hunting and other phsysical outdoor activities that couldnt actually be happening in some time. Ezra himself admits he has taken over Juliana's place for some time. This is not unbleivable as there seems to be more evidence that theyve been waiting an extended period for the detective over it having happened as recently as they seem to thing. The doctor claims the voice modulation helps them keep their sense of identity but they all seem a little insane..and that makes more sense when we realize they all have access to each others voice modulation. This also calls the supposed doctors own identity into question as he did not seem to recognize the flaw this could create or that it was occuring. Ezra also seemed to have Juliana's perosnality down..or at least a very particualr one the doctor believed was his wife. The reality is that any and all of the perosnalities/identitie we meet could be fabricated! For all we know, it was the missing grunt staff who rebelled and took over for the rich folk long ago and assumed their roles in cartooney dipictions. They are all clearly aware of the concept of a long time having passed byt when it comes to individual events, they seem completely confused. Without the kind of senses that would help them place what they experience over that timeframe they know occured, everything within it is wonky and illogical. Of course they are a bit confused about the fact fact they wont have the lives they do in 200 years becayse as far as they can percieve, the things they did that long ago were yesterday or last week. They are doing the same things, shut in with no exuastion, no need to eat, no outside events to mark anything..its just a bunch of the same stuff within 200 years. They clearly have been affected by the madness that effects all these bots and truthfully, the only reason we belived they were any level of sane is because they seemed confident in who they were. With Juliana revealing herself to be Ezra, we realize there is not true precident that either of them actually existed. If they did, its just as possible that Juliana WAS the crazy bot but was beliving themselves to be Ezra now after killing him.
6:15 the vault sends Pearl, the Ms. Nanny that runs the vault 118 gift shop to find a detective, after you fast travel away from and back to far harbor, she'll be asking around the docks for a detective, since you and Nick are there looking for Kasumi, your name has naturally come up around town. you can either follow her from far harbor all the way to the vault, or you can meet here in the hotel lobby and she'll lead you through the hotel to the vault. I actually encountered Pearl in Far Harbor itself, just after fending off the initial wave of hostiles and before heading to Acadia. She actively looks for a detective there, and has apparently heard that you are, or are at least posing, as a detective looking for a certain missing girl which brought you here in the first place, which is why she tries to approach her if you aren't good at dodging her. I'm genuinely surprised you didn't run into her your first time, she's quite hard to miss. You must've taken a different route out of town than I did. She had the electrolux attachment. ^^
hard agree! The story and humor really hits at what I love most about the extended Fallout series and world. It’s goofy and dark and weirdly existential in the best way.
This is why we put up with Bethesda.
She probably got the same attachments Fisto has in New Vegas! XD
I love this one, the dialog options are pretty funny. I always laugh when the robots attack while he tries to sneak out. It's great when the writers add funny stuff like this to the game.
@thenthapple, never worry about too much dialogue man, we love it here. The more dialogue, the better, the longer the video, the better. I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say we welcome all the content you can dish out. Happy holidays, Merry Christmas and I hope everyone reading this has a safe and great New Year! 🥳
You've been a go to creator for me for half a decade. Even during the hiatus your library of work has been there for me during some tough times. Thank you, and merry Christmas nth.
Cheers for sticking around
@@thenthapplemy other account is zero taket, i have been subbed since you started, i really love your channel and i remembered you today, thinking about the nights my mom would drink and i'd have your videos to hide with and listen to. You are amazing and i am happy to see you still do youtube. I remember listening to the video about fallout 3's death claw town (dont remember the name) eating popcorn home alone. You are very epic creator
Always a good day when a lore video drop, loved your videos for years now and it always makes me happy to see you post again
Ah yes my favorite quest in the entirety of Fallout 4. If I remember correctly it was heavily "inspired" by a mod for Fallout: New Vegas but for the life of me I can't remember the name of it right now.
Autumn Leaves if i remember correctly.
I guess Artists can only be "inspired" by another if the consumers like them? No, that's fucking stupid.
@@renaigh Which high horse are you riding here exactly? Bethesda ripped off the mod because it was good. I don't even mind the ripping off part if it means better writing from them but crediting the mod author or just outright hiring them would be preferable.
@@walternelson2687 That would require Emil to admit being a hack and we both know that's not happening.
You and mitten squad were my two favorite channels to get fallout videos from. Thanks for coming back man I think we all missed u

I don’t know if you remember but like 2 years ago I commented telling you about this vault and you said you found it and thanked me. Glad the video finally out man 🎉
In fallout 3, there was even groups that survived the blasts. Was quite horrible as they quickly ran out of radiation poisoning treatment and died quite painfully
shame they didn't become ghouls, like everyone else seems to do in this universe.
@@renaigh well, more like we only see people who became ghouls, since theyre the only ones who survived
@@VineFynnah the survivors bias
In fo76 there was a robo brain used to test nukashine.
It even explains where it pours it into itself.
So I think they can "drink" in a sense but not eat.
Shall need to look into this
This is basically what would happen if Mr. House had Alzheimer's.
Or if the Think Tank were rich idiots.
Need to take a look at that, think I know the one you mean
@@thenthapple The one I can remember without looking it up is the dead sniper in the tower of the abandoned church, but I'm sure I've seen other examples as well.
A christmas gift to say the least! Thank you so much, sir. Not just for this, but for not giving up, even in the face of some personal struggles. I don't think you understand just how much better you can and do make any video game, simply with your contribution to its community.
I can't wait to find out what the solid gold line is in this one. You'll be hard pressed to top "they're here, they're near, and they're going to burrow up your rear" from last video, but I've got a good feeling about this one :)
Merry christmas to you and any N+1th apples in your life.
Well said, hope you had a great Christmas too 😁
Love your Bethesda games lore videos. You go so in depth. It is great.
I didn't realize you had been uploading again, it's great to have you back. Merry Christmas!!
I've been back for over a year, how long's it been since you've seen one of my videos?
Far Harbor just has a different feel to the rest of Fo4 and i adore it. Cant wait to watch more of your vids on the island. Really wish more of starfield felt like this, a scary and uneasy place. Only time it felt like that was on The Colander, which you should definitely make a video on.
Yeah I feel like theme wise it was the best DLC
Thank you for the Wonderful Christmas gift pard ! We all have missed you and your stories !🤠👍👍🎅🎄
Thank god you’re still posting. I remember watching all your New Vegas videos when I was younger. Glad to come back and see you’re still creating content.

Am I the only one wondering if the dialogue would be different if you came in wearing the Silver Shroud Outfit?
Didn’t realize you came back to UA-cam, can’t wait to binge your videos now
Yeah I think a lot of people have missed seeing my videos after I came back due to the length of the hiatus

Happy Holidays, I'm loving the fallout lore. 😊
Great to have you back! Hope you're in a better place now pal.

OMG I WATCH THIS DUDE AS A KID I thought I would never found this UA-cam channel again
In all my playthroughs, I never really gave this quest or Vault much time.
I'm glad I watched this vid.
So excited for this, best early Christmas gift

HAd real chill morning watching this video. Make with some more goodies already... you.... lovely person.
Can't think of something quippy enough
I went a couple playthroughs before I encountered her in town.
my comment was literally addressed 8 seconds later in the video... gotta stop doing that.
I almost forgot to add this in, so in another timeline your comment is fine XD
didnt you leave years ago ? i know this voice i use to watch you years ago and you announced you was leaving im so glad you came back now i can binge tf out of you . ive missed this
Yeah took time off in 2017. Been back almost 2 years now
Glad i found you again !@@thenthapple
Glad to see you again. Love these deep lore videos. Thank you.
Also, this whole quest looks very much like a game of Clue. You know 'Mr Plum, in the dining room, with the candlestick', that sort of thing.
ah damn man, wish we got some cool stuff like this in Starfield. great vid, good job!

I always thought that the reason the money was embezzled and the extra wing wasn't built was to pay/purchase/bribe their way into acquiring robobrain bodies and parts
Ngl, I find it funny that Santiago was voiced by André Sogliuzzo, the same guy who voiced the male Khajiit in Skyrim lol.

I love that you’re smashing out lore videos again. The long form content is excellent 👌🏼👌🏼
Not sure if you plan on covering the older games again, but maybe something on the life in the Capital Wasteland during the aftermath of the war. You’ve covered the Keller Family in the past, perhaps there are similar stories? There’s clear signs that the military setup around DC, pre/post war. Possible potential video idea maybe. Either way, keep up the solid work man.
