Thank you so much! I've surprised myself so much. Those 2 chords in the verse seemed impossible at first, but I practiced it every day for a week or so and now it feels great! I just added in the intro chords and it sounds so good! I feel like I've improved as a player while learning this song
Many new chord shapes for me - this will be very helpful in getting them into my ears and hands. Will try playing with the recording once I have the shapes down. Thanks again!
Excellent lesson. This is a difficult riff to master. Then graden's lead.... Jay did a mind blowing lead. In my opinion Jay's lead made this song interesting to listen to
Someones been hangin with Jon Herington! AJA is my desert island album. The Dan is probably the best sounding live band I have ever heard. I love these advanced lessons, especially your steely dan stuff. Are you going to do a video on Jay Graydon's Solo? please do, Great Video .....well done!!!
Hey I'm lookin for someone that has that second rythem (palm mute) guitar. Your lessons are good but this is the guitar patching behind they keys. Great video but I'm looking for detailed guitar parts.... any suggestions on where I can find those parts? BTW I just want to thank you... I have learned a tune or two with your help. It's so hard to find good tutorials.
If you'll come to the realization that most people don't care about all the music theory you run about with every chord, you'll probably start to grow your little youtube channel here. I could teach this song in half the time with much more clarity and yes I understand music theory too. BTW, you run on about all this theory and the different chord possibilties and your version of The Witchata Lineman uses a bunch of uncolorful pedestrian chords with an annoying little finger playing the melody with a bunch of high notes that keep smacking you in the face...

That opening pattern of chords that descend by a half step is a perfect example of the genius of SD.
Beatles descending style.

Outstanding, Jon, thanks very much for your accessible yet sophisticated lessons!
No exaggerating when Jon says “most accurate lesson”! Excellent breakdown of a classic with a variety of “expensive” chords.
More Steely Dan tutorials, please!
This is fabulous! What an amazing breakdown of a complicated tune. This is challenging me and I like it. Many thanks Jon.
Great breakdown if the song
Fantastic chord progression
Thanks for the lesson and teaching

Thanks! I am going to give this a try but since I don't really use these particular chords it's going to be a fun ride
Excellent tutorial!

the chord at 2:26 can be played barring the 3th fret with your index, its much easier
Superb Jon - Cheers!
Thanks my man! Super helpful
Pretty fabulous my friend
Great tutorial. Thanks.
one of those cord changes is in You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet
I never really noticed how the intro is similar to Deacon Blues till i saw this breakdown.
Awesome. Thanks
Superb👍
Song suggestion beautiful strangers Kevin morby
I’m interested in sitting through this, but would be better if did one play thru.
The add9 style chords are what steely dan called "Mu" chords
Brilliant lesson, but, gee, those chords sure look expensive. 😉👏👏👏👏👏
Yeah - 4-finger contortion chords! 🤣
Great lesson. But please put the chord shapes and/or tabs on screen. Music learning is both aural & visual. Thanks 😊
did you just group all the set musicians as STEELY DAN
Deacon Blues is hiding in those chord changes
not bad until you have to hit that quick G/B variant at the end of the riff..that's the tricky part..lol
that's a tough one...just think it would be better w/tabs..maybe a little of the track blended in
the cmaj7 - b whadevs sounds 1000 x better, fatter at the 8th & 7th frets but hey you're the erm, MOST ACCURATE LESSON ONLINE, DEWD...!!

Stop yapping so much and stop being so 🌽🏀. It makes it difficult to learn from you when I’ve got to stop and cringe every few seconds. Thanks!
