- The most ambitious HOI4 mod that aims to bring the most complete WW2 experience to Hearts of Iron 4 is here and it's time to try it out by playing the country that's perfectly designed, GERMANY!
THIS IS THE DARKEST HOUR MOD FOR HOI4 AND IT STARTS IN 1933!
This is the ultimate experience you can have as Germany in Hearts of Iron 4!
This is Germany but it's Hearts of Iron 5 or at least what HOI5 should look like, this is a Germany vanilla HOI4 experience like nothing else.

lets do usa
LETS DO YUGOSLAVIA IN MILLENIUM DAWN!
Britain!
Better Turkey+ and country is Turkey, of course. There is a lot of paths you can choose.
Better Turkey +
The best part about this mod to me is the fact that while it is more complex than normal hoi4, it isn't so complex as to be plain unfun. striking a balance between complexity and fun that's often missed in similar mods.
What mod?
@@Therealferm The mod in the video is darkest hour, and I assume the mod this guys talking about is black ice
@@Therealferm Darkest hour
Thats why i stopped playing millenum dawn. Its just plain unfun with how complex they made it. But this, this is fun.
Millenium dawn is just being a world leader, but more chaotic and possibly more stressful
I've always wondered why Paradox never added the 1933 start date to the game. It adds so much context to how WW2 was allowed to happen.
It’d also give you so much more time to role play what you want
Probably cuz modern entertaining sees the average consumer as too stupid to dedicate any time without there being some immediate action
Sadly it’s not even wrong of them to think that
@@1CE. it’s just bc nobody wants to play Hoi4 for like 12 fucking hours per run just to get to barb
@@drained_yayo MP is a different story bro
36' was the perfect compromise, 39 was too late for significant RP and 33 is too boring for people that just wanna war. they abandoned 39' because it just wasnt worth the extra resources there is no doubt they would do the same for a 33 start date. Also they avoid the holocaust and other crimes committed by the axis states as much as possible so Kristallnacht and other early nazi crimes would be harder to glance over if they extended the timeline to include more just event and buildup time.
also the most likely reason they would have to massively rebalance build up times, a full 6 years of buildup without massive unfun debuffs would turn every major into a super power by 39
Impressive how the devs made it so the ai didn’t spam out units because of the longer years compared to vanilla
division limits.
@@hotdogboxd8 months late, but no Divison limits were used the AI was developed just not to build units among factories and production cut down, aka hours and hours of testing…

You are simple if you stop what you're doing for this boring old man
Pov your driving at 70 on the highway
Especially if it’s fucking 40 minutes long. Hell yeah
20:41 I doubt Tommy will see this but at the time there was a strong belief that in a war with Germany, Italy would join the allies because of the stresa front, and Italian support of Austrian independence, and nobody wanted to get rid of a potential italian alliance for Ethiopia.
Moreover, there was a significant sentiment against Ethiopia as they still retained slavery and had a history of raiding over the frontier of British colonies to acquire them (this stems even before the Great War).
Damn, leave it to the Italiens to make geopolitics messy as hell.

The issue with operation barbarossa in hoi4 is (in single player): war starts, russia loses 3 million men and mostly empty front to snake around. They can fix this by making the russian ai to spam units when at war with germany or add a focus which gives divisions
Better, add border tensions: More hate inbetween counties even if they aren't in war or have casusbelli would result in escalating military buildup. Plus some cheap border guard divisons if they can afford to build them.

I wish somebody would make a mod like this, but for Wolfenstein lore. The tech and the story behind it I think would be something comparable to TNO.
I’m genuinely shocked more wolfenstein fans don’t play HOI4, you are about the only other person I’ve seen with similar ideas to myself. I’d burn through a wolfenstein mod myself happily.
@@stonedtowel I think wolfenstein players prefer fighting in ww2 and hoi4 players prefer commanding.

@@bigpigeon2384 It’s more of a mod that would be akin to a meme-mode in Kaiserredux
If Paradox ever does release a HOI5, I hope they add toggles for certain features for ease of play. Like, being able to use a complicated economy system or just civs, mils and dockyards. Being able to turn off advanced politics and go back to more simplistic settings. The advantage would be that people could learn one feature at a time without getting overwhelmed.
>Book burning events

There's no way Sea Lion could have succeeded Historically because Nazi Germany had insufficient access to barges/ cargo ships from it's conquests of Continental Europe to supply major ground offensives across the channel even had the Luftwaffe established Air Superiority over the English Channel. At most British high command was worried about small Commando style raids or at most a Light Infantry Division being rushed across the Channel where the eventual counter attack would drive it to surrender.
It would certainly plummet stability and morale seeing Germans land in Britain even in small raids, plus they could’ve taken French, Polish and asked Italy to put its navy in the English Channel
Actualy, someone, after ww2 was over, that they should have baited sealion to happen because it wouls have shorten the war by years, since germany could not resupply it's units in the UK
Also, Churchill was ready to use frikking chimicals weapons in case of an invasion, they were ready
Still no chance for a proper invasion.
Tommy listening to “why Tchaikovsky is the best” in the background, nice
Quite ambitious indeed. For now I think they should focus on getting everything working and making sure the events and focuses match the nations, but afterwards I hope they could add more alternative focuses and smaller nations into the mod. Overall I really like how they handle run the campaign, although I think the player should have a more active role in balancing the different factions, this seems extremely promising and I hope they succeed.
I believe depth is more important than width.
Adding further militant resistence, after war complications would be nice.
Like Soviets freezing borders, installing communist goverments. Having exile goverments which could help in the war effort. Rouge exiled divisions who would need extractions(exclaves may trap majority of your forces should you be careless).
“I feel like once you ban books you know something is not okay anymore.” Well some shit shouldn’t be read. Like Twilight.
The reason why Germany wanted to go with Black, White, Red (even in Weimar Republic) is because most of the German people saw those colors as actually unified colors of the country.
It’s terrible that since Nazi imagery has been banned in Germany, the brain-dead neo-nazis decided to defile the imperial tricolor and similar monarchist displays, often getting the two confused for each other.
36:19 So that's who was in Paris

"Couldn't Hindenburg have saved Germany by picking a more liberal candidate?"
No, he couldn't have. Realistically, by the point Hindenburg appointed Hitler, it was very clear that one type of extremism was going to take over the country eventually. Effectively, Hindenburg had the choice between the country being turned into a fascist or into a communist dictatorship. Had he tried to appoint another, more liberal candidate, chances are one of the extremist parties would've gained a Reichstag majority in the next election and been able to completely disable the presidential system altogether. Hindenburg figured that it was probably a better option to "voluntarily" allow Hitler to participate in the government, thinking that he and Papen could "contain" him and thus minimize the damage he was doing while simultaneously preventing a communist takeover.
People like to shit on Hindenburg a lot nowadays, but if you only look at his decision from his point of view, it was actually relatively reasonable. The fascists seemed to be a far smaller danger than the communists to the German culture and people (and they probably WERE, a stalinist dictatorship would've been even worse for the average Max Mustermann) and Hitler seemed to respect Hindenburg and the "old order" (so everything before the Weimar Republic) enough to cooperate with them. The only mistake Hindenburg made was to vastly underestimate Hitler's competency.

he's not wrong tho lmaoo
thank you bro you help me forget everything for a lil bit. that skill is priceless.
I'm glad you pointed out something. There were 3 criteria that lead to the third German Reich's fall. 1 was the failure to force British Surrender; since they refused to surrender, and won the Battle of Britain, the Germans would have to split their resources and soon be low on fuel. The second was opening a 2nd front against the Soviets; with the first criteria met, the Soviet war meant that Germany had to split its resources and thus make it easier on the British. The third, and the one you called out, was the United States entering the war; the United States, with a nearly unaffected industry and infrastructure, was able to out-produce, outman, and out-gun the Germans. Even if the Soviets fell, and so too the British, the Americans, with the distance away they were from the Germans, could only be stopped if the Germans got the BOMB. Then it would be a Cold War between the Germans and the Americans, much like the Cold War between the Americans, and the Soviets. But you managed to knock out the British, by securing full Naval Superiority, then focus on the Soviets, who without a second front were easier to force into a peace deal, and since you never allied with Japan (you allied with China which is funny), kept yourself out of a war with the U.S. So good job. Also, Nice sensor job (you only did it like twice)

@@Chillerll I think you owned yourself with this comment. And once the USSR clapped back and the CPC stabilized China, the Capitalist nations couldn't hide their intentions so we were left with a Cold War, decades of proxy wars from the Imperial Core, and the status of geopolitics is no better now than it was in 1950.

Darkest hour is awesome
Tommy is so right, everyone should know what the night of broken glass is, at the very least every single european should know
I love how they made it so you can actually support China in this mod, since historically Germany was actually Pro-China for quite a long time, the famous German trained and equipped Divisions of China performed very well against the Japanese and inflicted heavy casualties, and even refused to surrender in true German fashion. But in the end, Hitler realized that if he wanted any chance to win he needed Japan's vast Navy so he swapped support later on. It would have been very interesting to see what would happen if Hitler continued German support for China instead of Japan, because FDR hated the Imperial Japanese and truth be told, is kinda a major reason why Japan attacked America in the first place with his embargoing of them, despite not embargoing Italy or Britain or France whenever they had Imperialist wars. Would Japan swallow their pride and try to become friendly with the Soviets? Would they realign with the British therefore alienating America from the Allies? There's so many possibilities and I think that's super interesting.

First, in 1894 Italy invaded Ethiopia. And Italy lost. Obviously, it was a huge humiliation for Italy. So Mussolini wanted to show people that this time is gonna be different. Second Ethiopia was one of the few countries in Africa that were independent. So Mussolini thought it's gonna be easy to win(But it wasn't tho lmao).
