Take a moment.
Imagine this scenario.
You're sitting in your lounge, as a middle-aged parent of 1 beautiful baby girl. You love her.
Your partner shouts from the kitchen: "Honey, could you go and check on Lucy for me?"
You reluctantly stand, knowing that she's perfectly fine.
You begin to climb the stairs to your daughter's room. You sigh as you enter, as she doesn't like it when you check on her.
You knock on the door, expecting to get a squeaky berating from a 7 year old.
Instead, you hear a glee-filled "Who is it?"
"Me!" You reply, filled with empathetic joy.
You slowly open the door, to find your daughter on your old PC.
"What are you doing with that?" You ask.
"Playing a game." She replies.
You wonder, why would a little girl be playing with an old PC in 2045? This thing is like the dinosaurs to her!
You glance over here shoulder to see what game she is playing.
And that's when you see it. The familiar green of grass and blue of the sky.
Minecraft.
The memories come flooding back. You think of your old life. Things were so simple back then. No politics, work, or worries.
You think of your old wolf. 'What was his name?' You think...
"Puppy"
Yes, that was it.
You can't help but wish you were back there. In the old days. When your only worry was when the school holidays were over.
You snap yourself back to reality. You look at the screen once more. You notice that your daughter is playing your old world!
"What ya playin'?" You ask with noticeable glee in your voice.
"This cool game called Minecraft!" She replies, matching your glee.
You try to say something, but your daughter cuts you off.
"I even found this cute little dog! He was just sitting in a house!" She says.
"Cool!" You reply, holding back the urge to tear your daughter away from the PC and start playing.
"It's getting boring though, since everything's done in the game." She groans.
You take control of the mouse. "Watch this!" You say.
You return to the main menu and start a new world for her.
While doing this, you realise that this is it.
This is your daughter's "Good old days"
You hastily say "There we are."
You leave the room, shedding a tear on your way out.
You descend the staircase, back you your partner.
You look at them, and suddenly realise that, the "Good old days" might be gone, but this is life, and you've got make sure that you don't waste a second of it living in the past.
Your partner smiles at you.
Now, What do you love, right now? Hmm?
Maybe it's someone.
Maybe it's something.
It doesn't matter what it is. One day, it'll be a memory.
You'll crave it back, just one more time.
So, as good as the "Good old days" were, remember that the things you love now will one day become part of the "Good old days".
Only once they're gone.
Enjoy what you have now. Don't mope about the past. Love the present.

I remember the countless hours I spent playing Minecraft, from trying to speed run the game with the boys, to building a giant hotel with my cousin that we didn't even finish because it took us weeks. This game has become a part of my past, it helped me with my childhood, from bad days to bad grades, I'd enter my world, pet my dog, and forget about all of it. Any who has played this game understands the meaning of freedom. there were no boundaries in this game, you could fly as high as you wanted and dig as deep as you thought.

when i was younger, i’d always play repeatedly play the old tutorial world with the castle and everything on my xbox 360. i never appreciated the music, and always thought it was boring. then as i got older, and things in life got worse, i realized it wasn’t ‘boring’, it was peaceful. it helped set the mood, and calm you during stressful times.
now, as ive grown older, i’ve realized how great everything was when i was younger. i just wish i’d realized it back then

This was the song that always played when it was raining. I remember so many times I was up late into the night, far past how late any kid should be staying up, playing Minecraft in the dark of my room snuggled up on my bed surrounded in blankets. I would play until my eyes would burn from tiredness and from staring at the screen too long. It was so lonely. Not that I really mind. There’s something peaceful about having your own little world all to yourself, being able to bring anything you could think of into reality. I remember one of my favorite worlds, it was a creative world where I’d been building some parkour courses with my best friend of the time. Eventually they stopped playing Minecraft. And eventually we stopped talking all together. I would load up that world and go through each of the courses every time I thought of them and missed them. I don’t know why, but it was always raining in that world. All the time. And this song would play so often. This is one of the saddest songs I think I’ll ever hear. Every time I hear it, I think of that world, me by myself running through some terribly made parkour courses. This song makes me feel lonely and sad, but it’s not such a terrible feeling. When I hear it, I also think of all the good times I had with that friend, and all the memories I’ve made with them playing Minecraft, and all the memories I’ve made even just playing by myself. Even now, in 2021, I still play Minecraft by myself most of the time. For some reason there’s some stigma around the game that causes other people to make fun of it and the people who play. I honestly don’t understand it, but because of it, yes I do play alone. A lot. And it still gives me that feeling from when I used to play back on the Xbox 360. I play on the Xbox One now, and I have to say the game is very different. So much has changed and the game has really developed. It feels different, maybe because I never wanted the game to change at all. I only recently got an Xbox One after taking a four year long break from Minecraft. So now, seeing everything that’s changed is kind of saddening. It’s not that I don’t like it, the game is still as amazing as ever, but it sad because for a while, Minecraft was the one thing I would do every single day. It was always the same, it was a constant in my life. And now, to see it so different, it really makes me wish I hadn’t given up on the game for so long. I really miss it. Everything isn’t so lonely anymore, there are loads of new creatures to see and interact with, it really doesn’t feel like you’re the only person there anymore. I feel like Minecraft isn’t ever going to give me that true feeling of nostalgia ever again unless I really think back to how it used to be way back in the 2010’s. Gosh, life was great back then.

About a year ago I started my ps3 for the first time in 2 years, might not sound like a long time but it was when I was 12, so for me, it was a long time, it was even 6 or 5 years after I last played Minecraft. Before I just played Sly Cooper which is another game that gives me nostalgia to this day. Anyways, playing the Halloween world, the Christmas world, all of the preset worlds and of course, the music made me cry of all the memories. It is one of the few things that gives me real nostalgia, the ps3.

The problem with other games like fortnite is that they try too hard to make it the best game out there. Minecraft has this simplicity of being just squares on which you can build anything you could dream of, infinite joy and happiness. That's why Minecraft always stands out to me. It will always be one of, if not the best game out there.
