I will say this, I personally will drive further or out of my way to go a better or a more options car wash. Something with higher quality vacuums or higher quality wash bays. Because I feel like I get my car cleaner at places that are cared for and maintained

If you do get an automatic bay I think touchless would be the way to go. Fishing poles and ladders in the backs of trucks can really do a number with top brushes. The neat thing I've seen with touchless ones with an arm that goes around is that they have sheared bolt designed to break if it gets hit so that it breaks instead of anything more expensive. After that sheared bolt is broken it lets the arm just swing up and over the car that hit it. Anyways I thought that was neat when I found out about it I'm sure going touchless or with brushes really depends on your location and the types of customers you get. I know a lot of people like automatic bays when the weather is too cold.

For subscription services there are RFID sensors I've seen used for automatic bays, but I'm not quite sure for self serve bays. I wonder if a membership card could be used on your card readers for that, but I'm not sure how well you could monetize members for the self serve bays since they could just leave it running or sit in the bay for a very long time limiting revenue. They are nice for evening out slower months for sure though.

I might be late on this, but try make a card where customers can load money on it, but it’s also a rewards program. So if they wash it at your wash 5 or 10 times they get a free wash.

Don't be fixated on price so much, as focused on providing a clean, well maintained facility and equipment. If you have a great wash, the customers will come.

I'm part of a few truck and car groups around Minnesota and North Dakota. When we do group washes it doesn't matter if it's the next town over or a mile down the road we go to the car wash that is the cleanest, has the best features, and had the best lighting so we can take photos of our rides

I would look into if dirt and mud will affect your system. Most of the car wash i go always have a sign that says don't wash mud off but people don't follow it. so make sure you are thinking about this issue that might come up with expenses.

Free Vacuums! So let me get this straight. You vacuum your vehicle, for free, then go home and wash it. Right? If you want to give something to your customer at no charge, add an area to at least offer some shade to dry the vehicle and keep the person doing the drying a little more comfortable. Add Solar panels to provide your power to run the whole place. Then you won't need to know what the guy down the street is paying the utility company.

I personally drive almost 10 miles to my favorite carwash. The reasons that i go there over others is simple. First, their pressures are the best around, it makes it so much easier to clean stubborn vehicles. Second is the chemicals they use, it makes a big difference. Lastly is they have hand driers, I always blow out the spots like in the mirrors that drip forever after it’s dry. I HATE streaks. Good luck man, this series is great! *edit*, my average wash there is $10 per week and i have no issue paying that to get my car cleaned well.

Problem with most self service car wash is greed not giving enough time on was cycle. So if you make it valuable clean looking add multi colors outside have soap to do a multicolor make it look fun
Plenty of lights for evening time
Most of self service is plane brick and concrete so spruce it up with bright colors

I work in product management and you should really be asking local customers to the other sites. You were right there, every free vacuum was full. You could simply go up to them and ask if the free vacuum would be a factor in choosing where they wash their car. You really need to have more research in the end customer.

Here is an idea put in a 6th one on the outside so you pull in a travel trailer rv or big truck. You need to put 2 walk ways on either side so you can scrub it. You know how much people would pay to wash there toys. Alot.any questions hit me up. I'm an rv owner and there is on like blue beacons to really wash it at and they charge 60 to 100 to do it

I work for one of the major carwash and detail shops in my town, we provide free vacuums but they are setup to where they can only be used if that customer has gone through and got a car wash. Just to add abit of an incentive to come back.

Granted we are and automatic car wash, so the price of out washes very from 10-22$ for the top package with ceramic. With tht being seeing said we see close to 70% profit on every wash. each car cost us 50 cents to run through. big money there if you play your cards right. just some food for thought.

If you are looking to get into the auto wash bays you might consider doing one of the bays as a touch free wash and one as a friction wash. Many car people do not like the friction washes due to the scratching and beating on the cars. The people who really don't care about the scratches like the friction washes and are more likely to use them. These auto bays are a huge cost so this would be as an expansion later on.

@@adelaideautowashes I hear what you’re saying and they’re designed to work, however I doubt they’ll be able to totally work when pushed to the limit.. Such as if a 4x4 truck with mud in need of a major wash goes through… I’d hate to be the next person, and have the brushes that just washed that truck touch my swirl free paint.

I have been detailing my car and maintaining all of them since I was 16. You will go to the car wash that is the best and you will definitely go to the one that gives you the best value. We have a water works here in Peoria Illinois where I'm from and they closed all of them down besides 1. This car wash I've been going to for over 20 something years because it has the best location Walmart is near so you can go get you some supplies there are several automotive stores where you can get your supplies at also and the Bay's only cost $1.. They've always been $1. The ones that they raise the price on is the price on up to a $50 and a $75 in the town of period they all closed down.. The ones on Farmington road they are higher Bad location not the best car wash bays and they don't have doors that's one of my main reasons for going going to the 1 off of University in period they still have doors that you can pull down and protect yourself when it's raining or running it's really windy. All the car wash needs to have is great customer service the change machines need to work and your equipment needs to work easy access and somewhere where you can dry your vehicle off comfortably. If you don't want to go there and your equipment is ready or unpainted or broken or dangerous.

Maybe the subscription could be for 1 hour worth of a wash a month, everyone takes about 5- 10 minutes at a self serve and maybe charge 50 or 40 a month dont know about pricing, bit then have a yearly option

  • @bdr3481

Honestly, I drive an extra 10 minutes to go to a coin wash that has hot water rather than the 2 closer locations that only offer cold water. Maybe look into a geo thermal water system? after the initial install price, it doesn't really have any addition cost as you can use the natural water pressure from the watermain to pump the water underground and then back up before going into your building.

I liked car washes that offer a decent wash for the price. If I pay $5 for a wash and find that it missed spots ok I can see that because it’s just $5 so you get what you pay for but if I pay $15-$20 and it’s the same thang it’s misses spots them what’s the point of paying extra if you get the same experience. The more someone pays the better the wash should be

what ever the competition prices is at. say its $2.00 for such and such mins. Offer it at $1.75 for such and such mins same as competition. Even Makes a couple signs to put out front saying what the actual price is. Say its Cheaper then Competition for service. Either Cheaper or adding more time to it. for say same price as competition. so instead of like 5 mins for $2.00 make it 6 or 7 mins for $2.00 . Some Car washes that have credit card machines. They will do Surcharges added onto the Customer usually its $1 to $2 extra charge. You Should Not do Surcharge.

Make the vacuums work free for 5 min when you scan your wash receipt or put in a code from the wash receipt. Build price of vacuuming into the wash somehow. This way people cant come vacuum for free without getting a wash but if you do use the wash, you still feel like you get a “free” vacuum.

    • @michaelmiller6013

Yeah but they might be vacuuming for free without getting a wash. The smart thing would be that a wash receipt gets you 3-5 min of free vacuum. This way people only use it who pay for a wash and the vacuum maintenance can be included in the wash fee. People that dont wash cant vacuum free and must pay separate

@@therevestor Yeah it's free to those who just use them without getting a wash but who goes to the carwash just to use the vacuums? Not many. Like free air at the gas station. They know there's a 99 percent chance you'll get gas or go inside to buy something so they don't mind giving you some free air. Trust me, they're not losing money on those "free" vacuums.
