In July it was announced that Johan will be the new bassist for German power metal band, Blind Guardian. You may want to check out some of Johan's past and present music. He is a great bassist and plays with such passion. He is also married to Marcela Bovio. She is the redhead in this performance and one hell of a vocalist. Check out some of her music with her former band "Stream of Passion" or her collaboration's with Anneke Van Giersbergen in the band "The Gentle Storm". Both of these bands were put together by Arjen Anthony Lucassen. More music driven and less story driven compositions. Still in the progressive metal genre. The Human Equation explores the idea of psychological rebirth, and follows the story of a man who, after falling into a coma following a car accident, is confronted with his past, his emotions, and his current situation as he lays trapped inside his own mind. The circumstances surrounding the accident are mysterious, as the man ("Me", portrayed by James LaBrie) ploughed into a tree on a deserted road in broad daylight. Following this, he slips into a twenty-day coma, with each day represented by a single song. Each song follows a slightly different format, though there are major common themes, such as the presence of Me's manifest emotions in his dream world (wiki)😉
This show is pure musical perfection. I enjoyed even Arien Lucassen's speech (track 26, I think). This show is a celebration of Arjen's career, so it contains the best of his work. I think it is the best way for people like me, that are not so into prog music, to have an approach to the genre, and, of course, is the perfect start to the Ayreon Universe.
This concert was a 'best of', so there is not really a combining story behind the songs. There is another live concert out there 'The Electric Castle and Other Tales'. All songs of that one came from the same 'Universe'. Sadly there aren't many other live performances to find, as it is hard to get that much talent at the same place at the same time. There are some videos of the Star One Project of Arjen with the Jansen Sisters however.
A live strean would be cool. Basically you got The Electric Castle live show you could do. At least the first part. The Universe show was a kind of best-of and way longer than an hour. There's also the Theater Equation, but that one will get blocked! And there's an old Star One / Ayreon show that's in 2 parts of approx. 45 minutes on youtube. I've been at those 4 shows, my advice: Watch them all! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 And you haven't even dug into The Gentle Storm, Amberon, Guilt Machine and the first album of Stream of Passion and Arjen's solo album 😉 Enjoy the rabbit hole

These are also projects from Arjen but outside the Ayreon Universe And they are just as briliant He just released a track from the 3rd Star One album with Roy Khan, Tony Martin, Marcella Bovio and Irene Jansen. Ed Warby on the drums, Arjen bass and guitar. Joost vd Broek on keys....and guitarsolo by none other than Steve Vai. Track is called Lost Children of the Universe
