- When we bought the van it has the most horrendous oil leak and I could never definitely find where it was coming from, I did have a hunch though. Now is the time to get it sorted.

Hi mate just watched your video top work. You mention you can smell exhaust fumes in the cabin. These 2.5 tdi engines have a common problem where the exhaust manifold warps pulling the studs out and causing a blow. At about 8:45 in your video you can see a lot of soot around the manifold area. I work at a vag specialist and we do loads of these. Unfortunately the turbo and everything will have to come back off and a few of the studs will require drilling out and helicoiling. Best way to tell if it is the manifold from standing under the bonnet look to where the manifold is, if you look down near the egr valve you can see the manifold gasket between the gap on cylinders 2&3 the gasket will he bowed out and not flat against the head if its warped. The other way to tell is by using a little mirror and looking at the studs from cylinder 1 these ones always pull out and it will be sooty around there. Hope this helps.
I know you probably have stuff well planned out but remember if you don't get the camper done in time it is always nice to spend some time in a new build before it's fully finished just in case you want to change anything around! I've been doing up my caddy (watching your series over and over) and I've done 4 separate build stages so far and have changed loads!
Simply awesome Dan! Good to see oily repairs again!
As soon as I saw the title to this video, My first thought was yes of cause he can. Says a lot for both the standard of your work and your abilities.
Top work, Dan! Looking forward to seeing the interior build.
Nice work dude! mess job but well worth it! Defo that ramp is a game changer!
Good vid Dan! I hope you enjoy early edition as much as I did today . See you at the next one 🤙🏼
Love the look of your van Dan not face lifted, well done sorting that oil leak out 👍👍
Glad you fixed it. Hate to know how much a garage would change you. Well worth the money on a ramp at home.
Nice job Dan
Exactly the same happened with mine good job my brother is the mechanic in the family 😊
So glad to see you got it sorted without taking the engine out 👊🏻
The van looked good today at early edition 38 nice to speak to you keep doing what you do 👍
Great work Dan.
Best work on show as ever Dan.👌
Nice job again mate. Love all your projects but the van is my number one 😊😊😊
I'm happy for you Dan , it's all ways a worry when you start to lose oil. Nothing worse than a leaky car mate, just give it a week or to and get it on the lift again for another look to be on the safe side. Take care mate see you next week for another good video.
Look on the bright side,at least the underbody is corrosion protected
🤣🤣🤣🤣
That my excuse for not fixing a leak too 😂
Good job dan
Get that interior built bro!! See you soon 👊🏽😘
Nice work, been there, unfortunately without a lift! Was a good 5hrs work on the driveway to replace all the seals. You can get the complete kit for about £50 if you Shop around though - loving the channel & keep up the good work!
Nice job Dan! I thought this was your issue when you mentioned it in a previous video. I did mine Easter weekend on the driveway with no lift, just some ramps 😂 felt like a lot more effort than watching you! Surprised you didn’t remove that rear engine mount for better access, it’s probably not as in the way when using a lift though! You said about exhaust smell in the cab and hopefully changing that crushed soft metal gasket between the turbo and manifold will fix that too! I also replaced my turbo when I did this, the thing now goes like a rocket ship! 😂
mine was the oring around dip stick receiver
Lets hope the oil leak is finally fixed mate as they can be a right pain to fin and repair, I had an old Volvo 740 auto which had a bad oil leak, I knew what it was and the part was very cheap but replacing it cost a fair bit as it was the rear crankshaft oil seal so the gearbox had to come out and I didn't have a lift or any way of lifting it myself so had to pay a garage to do it🤬😡😂
Vacuum tandem pump my guess
90% Turbo, is a f.... Work😊
Well done getting that sorted, are you going to steam clean underneath now to get rid of oil?
Take a shot every time he says caked in oil
Good to see I'm not the only one who's face is that dirty after a oily job 🤣, Great result I would take it and get it a MOT wash with lots of strong mix G101 🙈
Good job mate. The same gasket started to leak on mine as well as the tandem pump. Just wondering what sort of mpg you get out of yours and if it’s mapped. Thanks
Mines dripping in the same area 😅
👍
Dan, what's up with your camera dude, keeps going blurry when you move or is it the lights you're using??? Love the vids but playing havoc with my eyes.
