  • Updating the look of an old, frameless, bathroom mirror with a simple wooden frame.
As with many other parts of our bathroom renovation, we faced the decision again of either replacing or attempting to update something ourselves. The existing mirror had a lot of scratches, discoloration, old decals, and a good amount of desilvering. Luckily most of the damage was located around the edges of the old mirror so we decided to create a frame that would cover most of the imperfections. This project was fairly simple to do, updated the look, and saved a little money at the same time!
    Measurements:
    Existing mirror (66 ½” x 38”)
    Installed frame (about 67” x 38 ½”)
    Main Supplies Used:
    Gray Casing (7/16” x 3 ½” x 8’)
    Loctite Power Grab
    All Purpose Interior Construction Adhesive

Looks beautiful just wondering how you dealt with the mirror clips. My mirror has two mirror clips on top and two on bottom.

Wondering that same issue???? I’ve watched other videos on what they did but wanted to watch more to get other ideas.

Thank you! The clips on this mirror were flat enough to be able to just glue the frame right on top of them without a problem. If they had been bigger, I probably would have cut some sort of notch in the backside of the wood frame piece to leave room for the clip and allow the frame to be flush against the mirror. Also, we don’t plan to access the clips or remove the mirror anytime soon, so all the pieces are just glued on top. In a different bathroom, where we’ve installed a frame but still wanted to be able to easily remove the mirror, we used a more temporary adhesive on the sides with clips and stronger adhesive on the other sides.

This turned out so well! It's beautiful. Just wondering if the backside should have been stained or painted? Are you able to see if off the mirror reflection? It doesn't appear so on the video, but wondered up close. I can't wait to do this!

Thank you so much! 😄 That’s a good point! Definitely something to check before installing. I just looked at mine and you can’t tell at all that it’s different. You can see some of the back in the reflection but it seems to have a consistent shadow casted on it making it look almost identical to the front grayish color. I think if the front had been darker it would’ve been more noticeable.

The frame sits about a quarter inch off the wall, right? (Whatever the thickness of the mirror is). That gap is obviously not visible along the sides and the bottom but is probably visible along the top. Does it look Ok along the top? A “real” framed mirror would have all its edges sit flush against the wall…

Who is looking from the top other than someone 7' tall?

Is the top of the frame uneven because of the clips?
