There's also replika which uses the saddest ads I've ever seen. It makes you think that it's an ai girl that will send you "nsfw" pictures but apparently it's a 40 dollar per year subscription for lonely people.

It's so weird because I remember replika 4-6 years ago I think when It was just a basic ai texting app. I was dumbfounded when I saw an ad for it with that crudeness after so many years

When companies try to fit in buy using memes, it’s like teachers adding memes every 2nd slide on a PowerPoint
What's funny is that I didn't have a teacher who did that, but the main person that acted as their sub did...and one day, the sub had to make a Google slide for the class, and you could just see the look of confusion and disappointment on our teacher's face when scrolling through it
That reminds me of one of my art professors who really liked putting in anime references in her slides

as a guy that played summoner's greed for a long time, seeing it comes back with a fucking one piece meme of my favorite tower makes me fucking wheeze
So for as long as I have seen modern memes, I have started to notice a pattern of what people consider funny.
1: good memes require a sacrifice, weather it be something else, or yourself.
2: the meme is so incredibly dumb that it becomes funny again
I think a prime example of that are subreddits like r/weird or internetfuneral or, sometimes, dankmemes (either impressively boring or impressively nonsensical, nothing in between)
Even I fall for absurdist humor, but it's really...just that, so absurd your only response is to laugh
3: cat
I've played the game before (I don't think I even saw any ads for it). The base concept is a lot like PvZ and BTD5, but there were many issues with it. You could get infinite coins easily, you weren't able to repair anything that got damaged, requiring you to completely die to repair them, and you couldn't even replace characters, so once you've started a game, you literally do nothing until you die, and you can't even have the game run in the background while you do other things.
You can repair them but it costs gems or whatever they're called

Yeah I got really bored of it after awhile. There’s a large difficulty curves after the two levels and I found it impossible to get the little gems from the gnomes due to their rarity. I really just started to not like it

I started playing this game in 2019, it was fun back then, when it wasn’t being unfunny with boring memes. I still play it to this day, although it’s not as fun as it used to be, it had much less microtransactions.

As someone who LIVES for this game: their ads are so much funnier (weirder in a good way) than all the other idle/bad mobile games I’ve seen, hence why I got it! Just my two cents
Summoners Greed isn't alone tho-, ML also do funny memes in both YT community posts and mobile ads too. Even Albion Online has funny mobile ads too (although it's based on actual gameplays instead of using memes unlike these 2)

They are called Taffo Funeral Services (yep) and Unieuro (a big electronics store). Unieuro in particular acts like its social media manager just wants to have a casual chat with someone instead of doing ads lmao
The problem companies have with memes and comedy in general is that you have to not be deathly afraid of being offensive and riling up a random mob that is looking for any opportunity to cancel something that day. It's kind of understandable too, because it can have knock-on effects for publicly traded companies as activist investor groups can actively pressure you as a result and refusing to comply can result in actual legal trouble as you are legally bound to serve your shareholders.

There's no incentive to pay lmao. The store is so poorly optimized they do that to push video watching ads as the more obvious choice. I've never paid any money for this and have all towers available.

The best part about this game is, it's extremely easy to edit your save and give yourself a headstart, or just a 100% save. They haven't fixed it and I don't think they ever will.

My dad worked at a Wendy's as a guard and he would always bring home about 5 to 7 kilos of chickens that are ready to cook cuz it already had ingredients mixed in it.

I got t because of the Ghidorah summon. Played until I hit that inevitable wall that every PtW game has
i've played summoners greed. it didn't take long at all to upgrade your defenders to OP levels of damage, so the enemies were pretty much just insta-killed as soon as they got in range. at that point, it was just waiting, wave after wave for stronger enemies to appear, or for SOMETHING interesting to happen! it got really boring after a while.
I’ve tried this game out myself and while nothing to egregious it got boring pretty quickly. The ads are sometimes else though. I do think it’s better than those games that just lie about their gameplay like Gardenscape, Top War, or Evony, but not by much. They themselves seem to have fallen into a few of the traps they’re criticizing by using ads that use what I cal “Waifu bait” (like Ankha as is showed here). Granted I haven’t played the game since deleting it so it might have these units but I highly doubt it

I actually play Summoner’s Greed because I randomly found it on the App Store. Mainly got it because it was doing an offbrand Godzilla event thing and I got the King Ghidorah one and it’s OP as all hell.
Haven’t touched it in like half a year though and I had no clue it became a cesspool of this shit lmao

That is not true. To have fans you needs ads. Otherwise your game will sink to the bottom of the steam/app store/apple store lists. A game just popping up out of nowhere and getting popular is extremely rare, especially without ads. Word of mouth advertisement only happens after the game has a few loyal players (which doesn't happen to most games - even good ones)

I honestly don't like people shitting on Summoners Greed for "trying to bait kids with memes to play their game" because of how self aware they are in what they are doing because of how much they interact with their fanbase as an indie game development team. Half of their ads are targeted for players to used to play the game showing them what's new by using memes.
While I don't like corperations using memes I think comparing a small indie team with a business like Wendy's is absurd
As someone who's played the game off and on over 4-5 years not much has changed gameplay-wise, it's the same path, same basic enemies (being immune to certain attack types hardly counts as being different), same characters and bosses with the same abilities with different animations. The art is good and unique, but that's the only thing they really bring to the table
