The Drug Addiction Story of Dennis Brown

- Dennis Brown was perhaps one of the most productive and influential reggae musicians ever. Many reggae artists looked to Dennis Brown to find how a reggae song was sung effectively. He had tremendous knowledge and a deep understanding of melody and lyrics. He was dedicated to making music and always was looking forward into the future.

I worked personally with D Brown. He sadly died young, and was immensely talented. He was a huge star here in JA long before Money in My Pocket , following Delroy Wilson and Errol Dunkley. I choose to focus on D Brown the man, who was a people person, always joyful, never miserable, friendly with EVERYONE, always gave of his time and himself. Maybe too much. Ask anyone who knew him , they will tell you the same. I am honoured to have known D Brown, despite his problems. Big up Dennis Emmanuel Brown
I'm black American but Dennis Brown is one of my favorite singers of all time! He up there with Marvin Gaye and Michael Jackson in my book.
Big you mi artist love u to death RI P
I met him for the hurst time in 99 they year he passed away. One of my best encounters with a Jamaican artist. You right the man just mellow and nice. Saw him by the plaza in Duhaney Park at the Cambio. I was pregnant and he said why you standing in line. Pregnant mothers get served first!!!! RIP Dennis! You are missed!!!
My sentiments exactly. Which is why after all this time, I was surprised to come across it.
My favourite artist, Dennis brown is, I speak to Anthony gunshot Johnson always about him as Anthony lives next to my house in Finsbury pk London.
No matter what Eek a mouse say Bob Dennis and Gregory were great superstars. When Eek a mouse is long forgotten those Bob Dennis and Gregory will always be remembered.
This was the comment I was looking for
I worked for Dennis and Castro Brown at DEB music in the late 70s and early 80s. DEB wasn’t mentioned at all, it was a label that led the way for British Lovers Rock as well as releasing Jamaican artists. He also released the Wolf And Leopards album on the DEB label. He was a genuine, caring man and always supported the newer artists.
We in The UK will always ❤ U Dennis Brown.
Thank you for your wonderful Timeless Classical Music!
Your legacy will always reign supreme.
They don’t make good music anymore Dennis. We miss u!🙏🏿❤️

No matter what...Crown Prince
I am a "veteran" of the Reggae Sunsplash in Jamaica, 83, 84, 85, 86 and 87, where I watched dozens of Reggae performers aside from assisting dozens of Reggae shows in the San Francisco Bay Area. Of all those performers I never encountered a performer that radiated more peace and happiness than Dennis Brown. As soon as Dennis would get on stage his radiant presence enveloped the audience in a wonderful feeling of bliss with his incredible voice, melodies and radiating ever present smile. While Freddie McGregor came close, Dennis outshone them all.
BTW 1983 Sunsplash was my best musical experience. Staged in Freeport, Montego Bay at the Bob Marley Center. It happened about 2 weeks before Jamaica's Independence Day. Jamaica was turning 21 years of Independence from the UK. The energy was incredible, it was like, no matter your age, the whole country was turning into an adult and with the celebrations to match such an occasion. Dennis Brown was there and it was the first time I was exposed to his greatness, followed by many more and he always performed as perfectly as any human could ever wish to achieve.
May he rest in Peace and he will always be remembered for his greatness and contribution to Reggae.
“Love and hate, can never be friends” R.I.P. D. Brown.
Well said
That was my tune, along with 'money my pocket' and 'hold tight' and finally. 'Wildfire' with John Holt.

Finally someone who mentions both Bob and d and gives props to them. All I ever see is people arguing about who's better its silly.
You could spend days listing all the magnificent songs Dennis sang. He was the Luther Vandross of Reggae. Sadly missed
No, Luther Vandross was the Dennis Brown of R&B/Soul
Perfect comparison

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL VOICE MAY HE REST IN ETERNAL PEACE.
Did he ruin his life because of drugs,or did he need it to perform ❔
My favorite reggae artist never stopped loving his music I met him in person and it was a honor he's a real one with a big heart
Nothing too unusual as an artist story. It doesn't downplay the many quality aspects of Dennis as well as many others who I meet who have had addictions.
HERE HERE👏👏 some people are addicted to sugar and its killing millions if not billions of people but no one realizes that addiction is addiction, there's no discretion as to whom or what substance is attached. long live the king of reggae!
Wow what an Artist definitely the most influential awesome talented Reggae Artist of all time.
I saw him in concert in Hummingbird Birmingham
He was absolutely amazing awesome the most brilliant concert I have ever been to.
Still sadly missed and unplaceable Dennis Emmanuel Brown RIP.

D brown o my god he is the best artist ever I love d brown to my so special shouldn't die yet but a just life.
Thanks for this very transparent report on Dennis Brown and his life. The use of drugs has become very common and unfortunate in our world. However. for me Dennis's talent and his personality have survived what he experienced in life. He remains My Reggae Crown Prince!!!
For real, his lovely works remains ,as a reminder to us to keep his memory alived remember none of us is perfect n we don't know what's down the road awaiting us !
Didn't help that West Indies was flooded with cocaine in the 70/80s south American cartels use to use these country's for a stop off point for their product before hitting the states. Mixing in high society circles good people succumb to bad influences that are a excepted as the norm.
Truly An Inspiration To All Reggae Singers..
True his lyrics came from.within his heart
Dennis Emanuel Brown Never To Be Forgotten

Well said ! Bless is memories.
Good informative content on my favorite artist. ✅
Did you notice that Eek a Mouse says nothing of his own experience with drugs?
Pure lies! How dare u speak of Bob Marley n that manner! Bad mind jealous!
He didn’t need to you could see it all over him. 🫣
There's worse than drug use that's been alleged, regarding Eek. Too bad, I like a bunch of his music. Like a lot of reggae singers, including Dennis Brown, he had to keep output high at the long term expense of quality of one's body of work, I think.
I only got to see him once, the next and last woulda-been time, he was a no-show.
Good point.
I gone of eeka mouse
Shame he cannot sing like the
Great talented Dennis brown
And bob marley
I love love love Dennis brown more than any other reggae singer his lyrics was just so to the point I could relate it's like everyday living one of my favourite song is called "Rain" the lyrics is so beautiful. I missed him so much everytime I played his albums.
According to drummer Horsemouth, Dennis had only one lung due a previous illness which would have impacted on his health but said the pressure of constantly touring led to his addiction.🙏🏾
Not just him, but others also , it's all about the money for those managers, !
@@patsiebentley111definitely bad influences and circles that are profiting from them same story for Elvis Presley and the colonel 👍
Imagine! Today a D Brown birthday an a now you choose fi post this! 😮
Happy Earthstrong D Brown.
Some will loved him ,some will still point out his misadventures, but long lived is good works , blessings !
My favorite artist
Dennis Brown what a voice
Yeow!!!!! I never dreamed I would ever hear this from anyone, and even though I am writing a book or autobiography on my own experience with various reggae artists, I have had writer's block for years now, because I couldn't figure out a way to explain or articulate getting around the years I spent with & around several of these artists, without hinting or exposing their crack cocaine addiction, that was a major part of the lives of so many of my favourite reggae artists. AS A WITNESS PRESENT IN MANY OF THESE ESCAPADES, EVERY SINGLE STATEMENT THAT EKA MOUSE MADE IN THIS INTERVIEW, IS TRUE. I finally can now continue to work on my novel, knowing that I wasn't the first person to make the private lives of some entertainment giants, public information. I wasted many years trying to figure it all out... Wow!!!!!
We all have our weaknesses , some more than others !
HE DID SOME THE WORLD'S MOST POWERFUL RECORDS! LET HIM REST IN PEACE.
DETRACTION IS VERY PERNICIOUS
Tony Love .
Dennis Brown is a Legend i've been listening to DB way back in the 70's as a young youth
Up until now .
One of the greatest reggae artist if not the best .

I was in Negril visiting for two weeks, at the time Dennis Brown died in July of "99". Salute Dennis Brown!
Dennis Brown is one of my favourite artists of all time. I remember hearing that he had died from a taxi driver in London. I was shocked and saddened by his passing at such a young age. His music and legendary status will live for ever. Thank you for your life,Dennis 🇯🇲 💖✌
background music is TOO loud...
Dennis Brown is my favorite singer
Legends. Talk the positive side. Much more to talk about. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽so inspirational. All of them. Who knows why things happens/many reasons
Right! We nah care about their drugs. We love the music 🎶
Your spirit lives on through your lovely music.🇹🇹🇹🇹
For real !
Well said, he was just as cool as Isaac, his humanity is a sign of true Rasta man.
DENNIS WAS ON HARD DRUGS..
THAT IS NOT A SIGN OF A TRUE RASTAMAN.
HE WAS STUGGLING WITH THAT.
BOB AND PETER, GARNET, JACOB AND SIZZLA AND DAMIAN ARE MUCH GREATER BECAUSE THEY WERE CLEAN.
THEY ALSO DID NOT SING THE TYPE OF SONGS DENNIS SANG.
DENNIS SINGS IN IF I HAD THE WORLD THAT SOMETIMES YOU'RE LIKE COCKAINE.
DENNIS SOLD OUT.
STOP TRYING TO MAKE HIM GREATER THAN HE IS.
HE IS ONE OF THE GREATEST SINGERS BUT THAT'S ABOUT IT.
GREATNESS IS MORE THAN JUST SINGING EVEN AS A SINGER.
LOL
Ok
My friend Eric Clapton built the Crossroads centre in Antigua after seeing the cocaine destruction in the Caribbean and a big promoter in Jamaica asked me to help get Dennis, and Gregory in there but unfortunately it was not to be...D.Brown my singahhh
BLESS UP🕯
The Crossroads Centre has helped many, including local Antiguans. Thank you.
Thanks for this. Gregory Isaacs was my mother Linda’s common law husband and spent the last years of his life with her. He died at her house in Harrow England which is documented. He was good and generous soul but couldn’t find recovery.

I’ll never forget the day Kirkwood Brown, a fellow student and standout footballer brought Dennis Brown to perform at one of our concerts at the now 15:05defunct Granthan College. Eek a Mouse was also a student there at the time. What a performance it was. I can’t believe I was only two years younger than him because he was already a big star. I am sure he was not paid for his performance because it was a free concert for the students and staff
Crown prince of reggae!!!! ❤❤❤
My Dad's favourite artist
Rip to the great D Brown…
you no talk about his earliest recordings for Dodd when he was, what? 13 years old?
I love D Brown r i p my brother.
Greatest
The greatest voice in reggae
D.Brown! My favorite artiste of all times. Decent documentary! I wish you included more of him singing/performing! I do not understand why there are so many images of other people in this documentary. Appears unrelated! Perhaps you could explain!
I appreciate your honest feedback. Your suggestion to include more video(s) of him singing/performing is well noted, but you should also know that this channel is doing everything to avoid copyright infringement. Many thanks for watching
@@reggaegistxtra_ng I see.! Thanks for responding!
The 1 and only don of dons d.e.brown r.i.p my star always in jah love
I loved Dennis Brown's music. I grew up listening to his Sound Systems music fi years. To me? Dennis Brown was like our Jamaican Lou Rawls but with a slight higher voice pitch as Lou Rawls voice pitch was a deeper low toned voice & also Dennis's Reggae songs had a lot of Black Soul vibes and mi loved it so much. Both artists were tremendously great! Dennis Brown and Lou Rawls and may they both RIP in God's holy bless up care. ❤❤❤
So cares
The man is fire still a hero and legend
Knew him personally love his music even to this day good friend still with his brother. One of my favourite song Queen Majesty. Sad how he died but unfortunately a lot of Musicians are still doing the same thing.💔😞.
Wow,facts,never knew this,great film.
