WTF Are Inclinometers And Why They Are Cool

- Inclinometers, also known as tilt gauges, horizon gauges, land meters, pitch-and-roll gauges... do you know what I’m talking about yet? These little dongles ostensibly warn you when a car’s about to roll over. In reality, they rarely work. But they’re really fun, and it is my pleasure to explain why.

If I installed one I would need to figure out the actual max angle my Jeep can tilt without tipping over
I've got one but I prefer to put my arm out of the window. When I can nearly reach the ground it's time to level up.
And what do you do if your car is inclined to the other side?
@@Saurny I guess and hope for the best. So far I've been lucky over the years. Haven't rolled this rangey yet.
It also in pajero v20, remembering staring it for hours on the way to camping with my grandfather when i was a kid;)
Montero is Pajero in America continent, the three gauge panels one he hold early in videos is probably the one you think about
I have one similar to the Smittybuilt, that came factory in an ancient Jeep. Is still painted the bright orange factory color. Works about as well as the first one you profiled. Word of caution, don't get distracted banging on the meter while traversing steep inclines, can end up wrong side up.....
I don’t own an off-road vehicle or more I own a no-terrain truck but yeah I want one
Looks like something strange out of a 90s 4x4 website forum.
I last saw one of these at a yard-sale circa 95'
Hola el inclinó metro del pajero tiene algún líquido en el interior, un saludo y buen video
only time I've seen a inclinometer not in a helicopter stock is in a LMTV and it looks pretty similar to a lev-o-gadge
I’m looking for a precision one for driving RV on steep grades.
I'm looking for an inclinometer that reminds me of the sound of the one included in the pajero that my parents once had... all the inclinometers make that noise?
This gives me my summer car vibes
Can you show us the installation please ?
They don't need to work without being shaken, cause they'll always work with your diesel idling.
I use to have one inclinometer in my Toyota Tercel wagon.
I don't know if you do the same or not. But I have fire extinguishers throughout the house. I noticed one behind you in the video.
Some inclinometers look like artificial horizons on airplanes
I have one question ... how many degrees is critical angle to sideroll of normaly default suzuki jimny ... nobody know ... suzuki dealer dont know ...owners donr know .. in internet i cant found ... red zone to critical side angle .. Horizontal you know .. .. mountain road .. ... you know .. please answet for me . GRETTONGS FROM SPUT POLAND
I could not live with myself if the inclinometer does not shows 0° when i'm on a 0° surface.
Dang dude, is your hand all good now? That's great.
Awesome video thanks made my decision easier
I need 9 bucks offroad balancer... rate for indian rupees ❓️
maybe they could make one to measure how hard someone brakes and accelerates
It's actually possible to do that by reading the OBD port (the weird connector beneath the steering wheel area). it'll be able to tell you how hard throttle is being pressed, how hard the brakes are being pressed, so on. It depends if the car has sensors for those though. Allstate and a bunch of other insurance agencies offer small devices that connect to this port and read that data (drivewise, snapshot, so on). They then periodically use cell towers to send the stored data back to the insurer.
If you're looking for the actual acceleration change of the car, the OBD port could also technically be used for this I think. You could find and get the car's current speed, and do some calculations on the last few values to get current acceleration. I think there are OBD-based info displays you can buy that mount to your car, but it might make for a cool Arduino or raspberry pi project if you have some experience with the stuff.
I use a 8” piece of fishing line with a sinker and hang it from my mirror.
disappointed the digital smart inclinometer isnt included.those are cooler and accurate ones
Welcome to 2020 ... great free clinometer phone apps that work. And you can pick your ride and color .
The title is killing me. “WTF *are* inclinometers and *why are* they cool”
I saw the Montero inclinometer and asked if this was Andrew. Low and behold, it was him.
Every car should have an attitude indicator. Or as car people call them “inclinometer”.
They're still called inclinometer, the altitude indicator is similar, but serves a different purpose and works differently. This is an altitude indicator: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attitude_indicator
Where did you come from and what do you know ?!???? Leave it alone dude !
i hope these arent a fire hazard or something the fire extinguisher is unnerving
