Hi, great trip report, glad you enjoyed some bubbly at 40,000ft with Ryanair. Regarding the seat belts sign, they are kept on due to Covid measures to avoid passengers congregating on the aisle, and specifically by the toilet. Regarding the Packs off for departure, on the 737 it’s actually Engine bleeds off, and supplying the left pack with APU bleed air. On the Ryanair route network, a bleeds off takeoff is quite a seldom event, only when it’s really hot and heavy weight takeoff. Madrid in summer on flights longer than 3hrs possibly flaps 1 or flaps 5 with bleeds off. Take care!
Thanks for the answer! Yes, called it packs by mistake, I’m very familiar to the Airbuses..🤦🏻♂️ About the seatbelt sign, makes sense in some way, but it would still encourage people to get up while the sign is on. I mean, sometimes you just have to go.. On a Chinese airline I spend a good 3 hours waiting for the sign to go off until I realised it would just never happen so just went to the lavatory. Thanks again for all the explanations!

2:00 I've been starting to get treats for the crew more but never know when's the best time to give. Advice online is super varied. Some say after boarding, before take-off (but the seatbelt sign is on which may make them annoyed and I am not gonna press the call button for this). Some say after the meal service but that seems quite late especially on a short flight. What has your experience been?
Honestly, I never had the Ryanair experience you've just had. You got lucky man! Also, I never saw a Ryanair flight this empty! That could be why it was pleasant, maybe? And also that nice price? But I do think that you are right that if you just look at the seat and the fact that one is transported by air, ULC is not that different. Now from Dutch perspective, the extra inch in pitch matters, a lot! 😆 I always try to avoid LCC/ULC when I can, and mostly I can, for all the "inconveniences" that you described in the intro, which I have always experienced with Ryanair. Even when I need to fly low cost, I will always try Transavia or Wizz. So much better IMO. Anyway, thanks for all your great videos!
Not lucky David, you really get treated the way you treat them. I always try to chat with the crew and the nicer you are to them, the better treatment you get back. And when you’re genuinely interested in the plane or their job 95% of the time they assist to make something nice. And yes, the flights are mostly empty during covid but specially to certain destinations. I plan my trips like this on purpose: I know that to Italy has many requirements so people just don’t fly there. Never tried Wizz but I might. They fly from Dubai. I’m however really afraid of flying 5-6 hours with them.. Thanks for watching David!
There's definitely some luck in there for sure. But the main thing with Ryanair and most LCCs is that if things go wrong you don't have anyone to help make alternative arrangements, and you probably won't get a refund as well. When my Ryanair flight got cancelled during the start of the pandemic I was refused a refund. Meanwhile when Aegean Airlines made me miss my connection flight they arranged a free stay at a 5 star hotel for me and provided three meal vouchers till the rescheduled flight
Unfortunately, I have travelled from Manchester to Riga on Ryanair, but it was old cabin… and my experience wasn’t great, I made a trip report aswell, there were headphones on my seat left there, if you didn’t know this, that is a security breach, due to this may be having a bomb or explosive inside, the aircraft was dirty aswell! At least the landing was smooth… but PEOPLE CLAPPED! WHY??? Also, we were due for takeoff at 17:50 but actually took off around 8pm
Hey Daniel, thanks for the comment. I’ll check out your video. Of course experiences might differ, there are ups and downs always. I also don’t get why people clap?🤦🏻♂️
Hey Caroline! It was a very nice flight indeed.. Kind of made me think if I’m overpaying for the rest🤔. Doing great, hope you are too! Greetings from Houston this time!
If I was to guess the strange busboarding at Barcelona, the authorities normally force Ryanair to pay for airbridges. It's possible that the aircraft's previous flight was from a non-schengen origin witn the passengers having to be bussed to Border Control. They probably decided it was easier to leave the stairs down and busboard rather than retracting the stairs and connecting the airbridge with what may have been a tight turnaround.
The plane did not fly until this flight. And many other Ryanairs were using jetways, so I’m afraid we didn’t find a good reason yet.. There was a time where some Spanish airport “made them use jetways” but I think that’s over, there is a choice between remote stand or jetways parkings. Just check Vueling’s and Easyjet’s operation in BCN..
Another great video good to see Ryanair featured - Regarding landings its more to do with the Boeing 737 later series aircrafts .The Next Gen 737's are some of the fastest landing passenger aircraft Boeing builds. The -900 has very high Ref speeds. It only has one set of axles for braking unlike the multi-wheeled trucks on the wide bodies. 777 and 787 land much slower
Completely right there Saud! It’s just a running joke with the Ryanair landings.. It’s incredible to know that the B737-900 perfectly lands 20kts faster then a full A380! I believe the MD-11 had the highest landing speeds. Thanks again for watching!
that's the point about flying Ryanair last week Dublin to Gatwick and back for under €30 next return to Cardiff for €8 each way Buy your extras onboard if you need to be pampered 30" legroom when you are in the newer cabin better than most but you take the rough with the smooth occasionally I get stung with extra charges or don't get refunds but overall can't beat them
I guess that as long as you know what to expect you’ll be fine with Ryanair. 30€!? sounds expensive 😆 Will definately try them again. But now curious about Wizzair first!
Amazing trip report! Glad to know Ryan air has some soft spots 😂... What i have heard is... Ryan air does hard landings deliberately... Hey Jonathan, thanks for the comment. I don’t think anyone does hard landings deliberately. Geat video. Helpped sell me on Ryanair. I was always interested in trying them because of them having airstairs built in the airplane like in the old school days. No airline her in the US uses built airstairs any more. My only hesitation eas the legroom. I am 6ft 6 buy i think 30 in of pitch is good enough for me to fit.
Hey Daniel, The legroom is more then many other European Airlines such as Wizzair or Vueling. You can always pay a little more for the extra legroom seats, which I recommend. I enjoyed Ryanair and if you find a budget ticket it’s certainly worth it!
I believe Ryanair carried over 140,000,000 passengers in 2020 so despite all the adverse publicity they are doing something right, for a budget cost what more would you want, and a good coffee on this flight. Personally I prefer Easyjet but that's my choice. You mentioned Cruz from B A good to see he has gone and already under the new leadership of Doyle changes are happening, one day The Worlds Favourite may return.
Ryanair must be doing something very well! I’ll try Easyjet, promise. Hope the worlds favourite returns! Don’t like all the changes Cruz made. Fine for a low cost, but I don’t think that’s what people expect from BA. He created a toxic work environment. He had done the same to Vueling and Clickair when they merged into one.
Great review! Your review as usual showed it so smooth than all those suffering by other travellers. I don’t know how you do it,but good job man. Last review I asked you to fly low cost carriers and you did. I’m curious whether you got any Indian plans on mind, like Indigo,Air India Express,GoFirst,Air India,SpiceJet.
Thanks for your comment! Have some more low cost video’s however yet to be edited. All my flights are always good, I go to fly happy. It’s whatever you make out of it I guess. Many India travel plans, but once the rules change. I still need a visa to go and to many tests to retrun to the UAE, such as a pcr and a rapid test 6 hours prior to the flight. It’s just a lot. Much easier in other countries for the moment.
This looked like a perfectly acceptable flight. Just on the 737 vs A320 service ceiling comment, my last A320 flight (MSY-BOS) on JetBlue cruised at FL410
Have another look on a flight radar website because I’m 99% sure the A320 is not certified to fly that high. I’ve read somewhere else that the IFE on Jetblue might indicate a higher altitude sometimes, as it’s been reported that Jetblue flies A320’s above FL400😅. Thanks for watching again Kent!
You must have flown on some hybrid Ryanair... the "normal" Ryanair we know makes cringing headlines on all aviation blogs and specializes in ticking off all its customers... but for some strange reason, the customers seem to enjoy the torture rides - as they keep coming back ! This is the side many of us never get to see.... that they are a normal European airline and a good market disrupter that has made millions of people be able to afford & enjoy cheap flights. I have always wondered what that humming noise is.... now I know it's the fuel pump ! Thanks for another eye opener.
Many have had, or still have, something against Ryanair. I’ve been part of those. Back in the day there were only full service airlines, even chartes offered a service. The first low costs that I flew ; Basiq Air (belonged to Transavia) and Ryanair really managed to piss me off as everything had changed. Back then the difference was enormous. I also saw how it was slowly affecting my relatives and friends working in aviation. Salaries had to be cut and working hours raised. So that was my anger. But I was lucky to live next to major airports and be able to fly often. Low cost meant that finally people next to regional airports could have various routes to fly to instead of having to drive 350km to the capital. Fast forward 20 years and now all legacy airlines became low cost on short flights, this is aviation’s new normal. So yes, Ryanair for today’s standarda is just as good or better as anyone else.
@5:15 pax hate to part with their belongings. More than obstructive and time consuming, their belongings especially shoes can puncture the slides during evacuation. An evacuation must be completed in 90 secs as per the SOPs.
You’re totally right Neville. If you watch video’s from recent evacuations you’ll continue to see people either filming it all or fetching all their belongings. Such an action can cost someone’s life. But then again, it’s an human instinct.. 90 seconds with half of all the cabin doors inoperative, imagine!
To be honest: I flew a few times BRE - ALC with Ryanair and Lufthansa, and Ryanair was better in every sense (including service, friendlyness, seat comfort, punctuality). And of course for a lot less money...
I watched it, very nice! I understand why it’s so profitable for them. All my flights I’ve taken from Australia to the Middle East were full of Indian passengers. It’s better for many to have a direct flight. Looking forward flying Qantas again!
Hey Daniel, I was told it has to do with passengers not congregating during covid or something.. I’m a person that respects signs so I was seated quite long until I realised I better just get up!
11:13 in my experience, Lufthansa has cleaner cabins, better crews and the pilots are better educated. If you want to check-in a bag or get a seat reservation, the price of a Ryanair ticket is either the same as Lufthansa or even more expensive. But I have to admit, the service has been downgraded over the years since you only get a bottle of water and a piece of chocolate compared to the warm meal and free drinks you had in the 80s. Flying has become a hard fought battle these days.
We’ll, would you pay 5 times more on the same route for everything you mentioned above? My ticket included everything, even a bag! And the buy on board menu is cheaper too. Don’t get me wrong, I like Lufthansa. But the difference between them and low cost is minimal. Crew training at Ryanair is very serious from what I know. What I can agree on is that at Lufthansa they might be more senior and have more experience, but then again, the choice between 20€ or 160€ on a 2 hour flight is easy for me..
I've always had reasonably good experiences with Ryanair and their business model is certainly sound. But my one objection to them is how they've historically treated their flying crew and cabin crew. Sadly many other airlines have lowered their standards to Ryanair's, but I think if one just accepts that they're a 'bus service' from A to B then fine. Totally agree with you regarding the lack of reclining seats. For short and medium haul they're totally unnecessary and are a real pain if you're sitting behind someone who wants to fully recline. If that happens on short haul flights I tend to surreptitiously tap the back of their seat repeatedly with my knee! Naughty I know, but why should I be uncomfortable due to their thoughtlessness? I don't mind so much for long-haul flights.
Nice comment! So my perspective on how they treat their employees is the same as any other business. You can be a low paid chef in a fast food restaurant or over paid at some high end one. You build your career over time until you eventually land somewhere where you worked hard to reach. I’ve heard it all about Ryanair T&C’s, but let’s say for pilots it’s a solid experience to have done thousands of take off and landings on short flights, up to 4 a day, to countless challenging airports and weathers. Later in their career they can apply for some high paid airline that will value their experience and give the best possible conditions. Then again, nobody forces anyone to work for Ryanair. We all know what awaits there so it’s kind of pointless to complain. It might sound harsh, but I do some deep investigation prior to choosing who I work for or who works for me. My two cents! About the reclining seats, I would remove them all from short haul. Many airlines are actually doing this (Tap, Iberia, Vueling, KLM Cityhopper, Ryanair, etc). That tiny bid of recline doesn’t make a difference to your comfort. Thanks for watching!
@@TheLayoverAviation oh lol as I had some sympathy on that pilot as if he lands smoother then he might be fired from his job☠️ Love from India BTW 🇮🇳❣️

2:38 - They are required to use jetways at most Spanish airports
I know, it was a big deal back in the day!
To be honest: I flew a few times BRE - ALC with Ryanair and Lufthansa, and Ryanair was better in every sense (including service, friendlyness, seat comfort, punctuality). And of course for a lot less money...
Great video! What equipment did you use?
iPhone 13 Pro Max for now!
Damn, this video makes me want to fly Ryanair. Haha
Ryanair, please sponsor me 💰
0:21 on what seat did you had?
30F
@@TheLayoverAviation ok thanks
15:15 Better than a typical run of the mill Ryanair landing
good indeed!
i dont think ryanair is bad or low cost, its basically the same as public transport just for longer distances. like public buses and trains.
Exactly, well said!
Would you like to watch my new trip report on Qantas Business from Sydney to Delhi?
I watched it, very nice!
I understand why it’s so profitable for them. All my flights I’ve taken from Australia to the Middle East were full of Indian passengers. It’s better for many to have a direct flight.
Looking forward flying Qantas again!
Also, the seatbelt stayed on my entire flight too
Hey Daniel, I was told it has to do with passengers not congregating during covid or something..
Looks like a post office note an aircraft.
15:20 that's not even possible RyanAir never lands that smooth 💀
I faked it🥸
@@TheLayoverAviation oh lol as I had some sympathy on that pilot as if he lands smoother then he might be fired from his job☠️
Love from India BTW 🇮🇳❣️
