The oil lines for the OMP had a Crack in them causing the oil leak, and also causing it to look like it was coming from the OMP, been replaced and now it's time for upgrades!!
Just saw this video about the problem with you OMP after watching and commenting on this possible problem in your last video. I would really recommend getting a SOHN Adapter especially if you're going to be in the area anyway and having to get parts in general. If that has an internal failure or gets clogged you may not know for multiple oil changes and run the risk of doing some damage because of lack of lubrication. I agree a stock RX-8 and good OMP are enough but with almost 20 years now on the car and an unknown life previously, could really be a toss up. I would hate to see the car blow even though you did all the maintenance on the forums and whatnot. Outside of that the gauge is good. I would also recommend getting it tested or doing a compression test yourself (it's not as hard or expensive as people make it out to be). If your numbers are okay and really good (like 102-110 PSI averaged around both rotors and all three rotorfaces) than an oil catch definitely isn't needed yet but if your numbers are at the bottom end of spec (so technically compression score wise anything 6.9 or less all averaged up is failing(anything under 95 PSI) but I would say considering the amount of time you've had the car and fact that it only had 10k miles on the rebuilt engine when you first bought it if the score is under 7.0 installing an oil catch can is a must to make sure the only oil in the engine is good oil and you can check the catch can level with the SOHN Adapter or have it dump though that might not help with the oil mark all over the driveway possibility). I might be going a little crazy because mine just tested at 6.05 for the rear rotor and 6.375 for the rear at 260 RPMS (The average is 250 but I did it at the dealership I worked at so I was able to get some precise numbers during testing but they aren't needed for general engine compression (maybe 0.1 on the compression score absolute max being 0.2 if your cranking RPMS are really off)). My technical score for 250 RPMS as average is 6.3125 across the whole engine which is starting to scare me a little more as mid 5.5's start having hot start issues around that time and total engine rebuild by 4.8 if you're crazy crazy lucky. Like I said. I might be going a little crazy. But as someone who wants to see more of these beautiful cars making it a long time I pass my experience and learning opportunities to you. I hope you have a good time with you car! Can't wait to see more videos soon!
