Josh Barnett simply not giving a f*ck. Walks to the mat with shoes on and giving his back to a leg lock/back take specialist. Dude has been around for like kzillion years, and still going strong against young studs. Real legend ! ❤

Wearing wrestling shoes on the mats is fine. Wearing tights with no shorts over them, however, thats a lifetime ban....

I believe since they are wrestling shoes and you only wear them on the mats and not walk around on the floor or ground with them it preserves the respect aspect. I believe he removes them before exiting the mat and puts them on right he is going to step on the mats.

5 minutes of real gem right here worth of studying. Barnett showing off some amazing things you don't really see at your regular grappling gym everyday (disclaimer: in the West).
    0:00 Standing Leg entanglement
    0:02 Toehold with hands
0:16 Attacking for Kneebar while your back is being taken (to avoid backtake)
0:27 Attacking for Doublewrist Lock while your is being taken (to escape backtake)
1:13 Changing angles to counter Elbow Crunch sweep
    1:18 Shin Lock step-up
1:34 Using footwork / angles to counter a sweep
1:38 Using footwork / angles to counter a sweep again
1:48 Jaw Lock attempt (to force opponent Pin himself)
2:18 Sweep from Gator-roll / Over The Top from bottom Front Headlock
    2:22 Grovit attempt (Neck Lock)
2:30 Funk Roll (Pass underneath the legs)
2:35 Doublewrist Lock to escape backtake (and end up on top)
3:05 Using footwork / angles to counter a sweep again
3:33 Rolling Toehold to counter seated armdrag (Note: Most likely a sub here; Barnett just being good sport by not cranking it)
4:00 Heel Hook attempt (using his own butt as lever)
4:25 Shin Lock to escape backmount
5:37 Can Opener to open the guard / keep guard open
That's just a little breakdown after one viewing session. I'm sure I missed a lot.

So beautiful to watch! They were never trying to overcome the other just with pressure or explosive moves, just with technique. JB always looks gassed out but he is relentless untill the end, always aware of every detail and with clear plans in his mind, not taking advantage of his weight. Craig Jones has a clear cardio/speed advantage, but focuses instead on technical sparring. It would take hours to examine all the small details, wow!

Barnett used a Shin lock to escape Craig's back attack. Not Toehold.
Also, Barnett could've finished the Toehold by cranking it, but was holding it steady to allow Craig to tap (which never happened). He was just being a good sport. Then he showed Craig how to tap, but casually tapping on the Heel Hook, even though it wasn't very secured yet.

Furthermore, as it is the karate of our time, jiu jitsu has a bazillion practitioners for every catch athlete. Ultimately, the ADCC rules are exclusively geared towards favoring American sport jiu jitsu. It's more or less like having a boxer and a Muay Thai fighter face each other, but the latter won't be able to use elbows, knees, takedowns, etc., etc. Obviously the boxer will get the knockout. Josh Barnett is a savage. He’s done it all in mma. I still wish he would have faced Fedor back when they were both in their prime.

    • @pulsarlights2825
      @pulsarlights2825 2 роки тому

He tested positive so the Fedor flight was cancelled. Who's fault was that? He was also 0-3 against Cro Cop, so I wouldn't say he has "done it all"....

Josh gasses after about a minute into each roll. But who wouldn’t…having to constantly defending Craig’s pressure. Very impressive especially considering how much weight is he’s giving up.

Watching Craig do flow rolling like this is just absolutely beautiful to watch. Its slow enough to wear you can literally see him nailing techniques step by step, but then he'll randomly hit a beautiful sweep and im just like how tf did he just do that!
