I am curently looking at this particular knife or at the casstrőm no 10. which would you recommend more ? I would use it for camping chores primarily. Nice review ! Keep it up, i like seeing your channel grow steadily! :)
Grega Lorenc I have reviewed both and both are excellent. I guess for larger hands maybe the TBS Boar, for smaller hands maybe the Casstrom Nr10. (There's a link to that one in the video description.) Also, the Boar is heavier, and there are pros and cons to both.
Grega Lorenc might want a smaller knife than these gor camping mate, go with enzo trapper 95 in elmax steel its alot better than both of the other two j terms of steel
I bought the TBS boar a year ago largely based on this review and it is great. I am 5 feet 5 inches tall with smaller hands and I just absolutely love how this feels in my hand. Just the right size and form. Very comfortable. I also love the heft of it. I feel this will last through a lot of abuse(it already has). Thanks for the review. Love the channel.
Absolutely cool. I am a woman (meaning by that I have smaller hands), but yet used to work with these and other types of knifes (I''m an experimental archaeologist, so able to work with larger - and rougher - tools, and this knife looks actually fine). It would be indeed a perfect give away. Let's keep the reviews coming, they are useful. Thank you, Bjorn!
Aïda Molina Thanks a lot! This knife will even function as a digging tool to some extent, as it is very rugged. By the way, what an exciting job you have!
I've been trying to decide on a good bushcraft knife, I'll have to take a good look at this one. Reviews after some years of use are much more valuable that fresh out of the box reviews. Thanks!
good to watch this video and hear your feedback after 2 years of use... I am eyeing off the military version of the same knife. Great videos, thank you so much for your time, wisdom and opinions Bjorn, much appreciated! Best wishes from Australia...
Excellent review Very well explained, I totally agree with you, I bought the curly burch TBS Boar I couple of years ago and keep it in the truck so it always available. I am so happy with it that bought a 2nd one (with the walnut handle which is beautiful) that I keep at home in my spare bug out bag.
I have two of them as well, and a friend of mine (he's in my latest video) also has one. They are great all round bushcraft knifes and I've never had them fail me.
Thanks for the review, I'm about to invest in a boar. Just so you know both the stainless and carbon steel boars now have 4mm blades, if you want a big boy the grizzly is a massive 6mm.
I have never actually owned a knife aside from my pocket knife. I have a great Swiss knife with a walnut wood casing I got while in Switzerland but never had anything bigger. I usually take a hand axe with me for cutting/splitting wood when I go camping but the knife looks super useful too now seeing it in action! Cheers, Bjørn!
Jamie Keddie You're not the only one going for the axe+folder option, and I can see many reasons for skipping the bushcraft knife all together. However, I feel a bit "naked" without a proper knife!
The carbon version is better for whittling as its is slightly thinner its is also tougher has better edge retention and is a lot easier to sharpen... Although it can rust but as long as you can are care of it you should be fine!
When it storms, as if often does during fall, we actually have a salty taste and smell in the air. The woods here are very close to the sea, so many prefer the stainless option here. I have the carbon version as well - it's a bit of a project as I'm putting handles on it. Might be ordering some bog oak for that.
nice video Bjorn. I would like to say a few words about the same knife but in the high carbon, not stainless steel which comes in 4mm rather than 5mm, not as good of a splitter but a bit better for carving etc. I found the steel to be of a very good grade, although reasonably sharp when purchased does need some work. the scales on my own knife were mismatched to a degree I made my own to replace them , and shrunk on the tang after a couple of weeks. The sheath is average I got he dc4 version. I'm only writing this honest opinion so other people will not be disappointed as I was with mine for the money I paid my knife is now a great tool with no flaws. like I stated its a good steel. p.s. keep the videos coming ATB
Bjorn Andreas Bull-Hansen Yes. This is Japan. I wanted a TBS knife and I saw your review. It will arrive from the UK soon. It was very helpful. Thank you!
Say Heah Bjorn, Very good video. I stayed a little longer on our weekend trip, I was testing one of my combo Summer Knife Set. My Long Knife Combo. I had a Battle Horse Attitude modified and my Mad Hatter Machete, both have matching White G-10 Handles with Blue Liners. My Mad Hatter Machete even has a Scandi Grind like Colhane did on his Machetes. He is on UA-cam. The modified Attitude is copied off the Woodlore. I had it Slightly Curved and the Drop Point Lowered with a High Scandi Grind and White G-10 Handle with Blue Liners and Battle Horse did a Outstanding job making it. It's a Beefy Robust sort of Knife I call my Bush Craft Survival Knife and lemme tell you it's all the above. I simply love it and now the set. I had to put some final touches on my Mad Hatter Machete, but all well and I simply love this set. There's no doubt my Modified Attitude could serve as a Tactical Knife but it does exceptionally great job in the bush. Thanx You for sharing your beauty, Keep up the good work.,,.p
I have the slightly larger version I have found it very capable.........I went on your blog page and agree totally with your views on terrorism and how it needs to be dealt with 👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼
Bjorn Andreas Bull-Hansen .....yes that's the name......it's a little bit heavy for fine work but does a good job of wood preparation and light chopping........ I like the weight and it's possible uses in other emergency type scenarios and as you point out the steel is quite hard and holds an edge extremely well. My only criticism would be that when it came it wasn't surgically sharp and the grind was uneven but a few hours of reprofiling on stones remedied that.........since then I have used it very often only had to resharpen once with stropping keeping it very sharp. Thanks for your reply 😊👍
Bjorn Andreas Bull-Hansen ......it was only a slight criticism still a very capable and well priced tool. I am enjoying your content and am at present watching your video on the chieftains seat 😊👍
That knife would make an excellent giveaway! if you are talking/thinking of giving thar particular one away I would hope you had another on the way for yourself. once again...great videos! thanks
Great video, definitely happy to subscribe! I am currently looking into this knife and was curious about how often you have to sharpen it and how long you need to be on a stone to get it sharp..
Im glad you didnt start fannying about making fires , im not into that ray mears bollox . Tent stove bag knife .lets go disco . I have a lighter and it always works ,,
Takk for videoen.
How do you compare it with the Casstrom no10? I just bought the Casstrom no10 is Sandvick and although I love the feel, I find the handle a little thin and blade a little short. I was looking at these for the price and they seem great.
mermaniel I have reviewed both on this channel. Both are very good, but they're a bit different. The Boar is more substantial and perhaps more traditional, and heavier.
Hi Bjorn, sorry to bother you with another question. Do you know about the online store Lamnia of Finland? I have never heard of them before on this side of the Atlantic and would like to make sure it’s not a scam. No pressure to answer, but it would be great if you had a minute for a short answer. Cheers, René
Monika Neff Thanks! Depends on the sort of fungus. Chaga, which I prefer and that I can harvest in my local forest, doesn't need preparation at all. The horse hoof fungus needs bleech treatment.
hey m8. you say that it's bits to deep. well try to put the knife at the lower knee point and, just gently pull the stick along side the blade. I swaer to will get the most fine shaves ever. it even beat my Mora. this knife is worth everything. the only job it can't do is food prep. you will have to carry a 2nd blade like miltotool or Swiss knife. beside that it is the best knife for the price. everything from craftsmanship to degsin yo performers. great vid. and great knife. for everyone who is looking for this blade, no doubt go for it. it is sick. it's like a fallkniven with scandigrind. maybe shappen it into a scandivex and it's like a god. no shit. sorry for bad English. have a wonderful and peacefully life. - Thomas
Hello, I must have misunderstood - I thought the giveaway was going to happen a lot sooner. By all means - the TBS would be a great prize! Thanks, take care, be safe, "GOD Bless", sincerely Randy.
Excellent video my friend,i have very big hands triple X gloves and I think this TBS knife would be perfect.l have a collection of expensive knives eg.Helle Mora martini and Boker arbolita in 440c,im not into super steels. I use the Mora companion knife for field dressing Deer and other game.where can I get this knife.Stay safe.
Its a great knife, i mean it looks beautiful and the sheath looks also great. i like the natural, old look of it. I'm wondering however how this knife performs with cutting/chopping small saplings. i'm looking for a good knife that i would like to use for the heavier work, (chopping, Baton, cutting,)
Im not sure i would get that knife just my thought. You seem winded after trying out that featherstick. Looks like that scandi grind should of been higher. But good review.
I really didn't like this knife. It's like a club. Very thick blade with a short bevel gives it a vide angle edge. If u like batoning and splitting wood it is actually pretty good for that. If u like to do a bit of carving it is kinda useless, too big and bulky for that. That's about it.

Thank you for the quick answer, it seems as i can't go wrong with either of them. Thank you again !
Grega Lorenc might want a smaller knife than these gor camping mate, go with enzo trapper 95 in elmax steel its alot better than both of the other two j terms of steel
I'm sure you have most likely already purchased your knife. Which one did you buy and how do you like it?

Looks like a great knife for many uses. I love the craftsmanship in the sheath as well.
Yes, all the sheaths they make are top quality.
Excellent review Very well explained,
I totally agree with you, I bought the curly burch TBS Boar I couple of years ago and keep it in the truck so it always available.

theblissfullone Thanks! I feel I'm very fortunate to have so many nice people subscribing to this channel, so this is the least I can do!
You're welcome. :-)
Just the style knife I'm looking for..Count me in..
jeff vaughn Perfect!
TBS Boar is a great knife - It;s my Go-To tool when in the woods
I love the bagpipes. That would be a great giveaway.
Picked one of these up at the British gun show, not put much mileage on it yet but seems solid and takes a good edge
Love the bagpipes! 👍🏼
The tbs boar would be an awesome giveaway, for anyone who's into bushcraft!
Yes, I'm ordering it for that giveaway.
i like it .very good. just keep it .wont let you down.

John Hertzog Glad you liked it!
That would be an awesome give away. Beautiful knife i might have to pick up one for myself.
Frost Hunter I can absolutely recommend it.
Bjorn, I also favor the TBS Boar in stainless. It is my current carry knife.
Folma7 Glad to hear that!
Nah high carbon all the ay
Good video Bjorn!
The carbon version is better for whittling as its is slightly thinner its is also tougher has better edge retention and is a lot easier to sharpen... Although it can rust but as long as you can are care of it you should be fine!

Manufacturers that are not familiar in Japan
The style is cool!
I plan to purchase it soon.
It was very helpful
Awesome! So you’re from Japan?

Joe Davenport Thanks, Joe!
Good morning, Bjorn.
I'm curious about your opinion of the TBS Boar, now that more time has passed.
Beatiful knife - would love to try it myself ;)

Tony Eden Sorry to hear it wasn't 100% on the edge. Mine was scary sharp. But I guess it's how it performs after a long time that really matters.
Bjorn Andreas Bull-Hansen ......it was only a slight criticism still a very capable and well priced tool.
I am enjoying your content and am at present watching your video on the chieftains seat 😊👍
Tony Eden Thanks! I will be finishing that piece tomorrow. I need to be able to lean back in my Viking chair, haha.
Another fine video!
Looks great , thinking of it my self , it’s on offer at the moment for £90 ..

Carbon steel one a Joy, watch your fingers.
I think a giveaway is a great idear, and would prefer a carbon steel knife - boar or the grizzly 😎
Takk for videoen.
It's my go to knife. I also own a Bark River Bravo1 but it has not yet left the box at it is way to scary to sharpen.
Hei, Bjørn. Kjempebra video.
Viking Shaman Takk!

...Quick question....How do you prep tender fungus to take a spark?
Monika Neff Thanks! Depends on the sort of fungus. Chaga, which I prefer and that I can harvest in my local forest, doesn't need preparation at all. The horse hoof fungus needs bleech treatment.
Bjorn Andreas Bull-Hansen maybe an awesome video idea: tinder making tutorial
Bjorn Andreas Bull-Hansen.. thank you
Casper Mittendorp That is noted!
Nice Review Björn
Thank you, Stephen.
DBK dident like it. nice you did. so i was wondering how is youre thoguhts on it now ?

That seems to be a great knife and an awesome giveaway!!
Great looking knife, hope to win it, keep up the good vids
Pandy Wendy Thank you!

That'd be a great giveaway
Great video! What is the name of the bagpipe song playing when you disconnected the mic? Please and thank you!
Thanks a lot! I friend of mine, credited at the end, made this music for me.
I'm liking it! Might consider getting one for myself
It's a good one!
Well will know soon enough, ordered one!
It’s good for all those tasks, except chopping. For that it is a bit too short.
Great review...i love mine
The stainless is a swine to hone well , the carbon steel holds the edge a lot longer seems that much sharper
Like the jacket where can I find one
I would love to have a chance to win that knife or one like it,Love your videos keep up the good work.
george aaron Thank you! It's a great knife. But we still need 890 more subscribers as per now. I'll keep posting, so hopefully it won't take long!
879 now.
Im not sure i would get that knife just my thought. You seem winded after trying out that featherstick. Looks like that scandi grind should of been higher. But good review.
Will a leather sheath make my stainless knife rust?
great videi
greg patz Thank you!
Nice
yes please do the giveaway. great vids and content. keep up the good work and i'm sure you will continue to grow ur channel and audience.
so is it better than the casstrom no10 ?
I've never heard of TBS knives, where are they made.
UK i believe
looks a little to fat in the spine, how man mm thickness does IT have? nice Video thanks man! regards from Germany, Matt
jackknife68 Thanks! 5 mm on the stainless version. 4 mm on the high carbon.
The mk2 version of this has a 4mm stainless blade and a new sheath
I would not mind that Bushcraft knife no :)
I have some good whitteling knives but nothing as robust as that one.
Kjetil Kverndokken Robust is the word!
I really didn't like this knife. It's like a club. Very thick blade with a short bevel gives it a vide angle edge. If u like batoning and splitting wood it is actually pretty good for that. If u like to do a bit of
carving it is kinda useless, too big and bulky for that.
That's about it.
Tbs
Why does this knife look like the catrom lars falt. Forgive the spelling
It was out before the Lars fault I think
Would love you to do a givaway of that knife at 3K subscribers, I probably never win it but I like to participate :-)
happymark1805 You're very welcome! You might even win, who knows?
