On the back of this, my husband has bought me a Mora Companion in stainless steel, for my 24th wedding anniversary! We're hopefully up to Scotland at some point this year. Romantic, eh? I'm very happy.💖💘💖
I've been watching Simon and Maggie for some time and I've learned a lot. He explains simply and eats real camp food that is reasonable. He's from the UK, but, he has info that can be used anywhere. He has no business interests in products other than what he's familliar with. Basically I've learned that what I need is not the best or fanciest, but what will do for the situation.😮🙃🙃❤
Four very useful knives indeed. Like you I was born without the genes that would drive me to collect things. Drop points are my favorite blade shapes too. I have watched another UA-camr use the TBS Boar and noticed his dog was really alert when he was doing food prep with it. He chased down every chunk of carrot that skittered away after the Boar snapped its way through. Once they hit the dirt, they were legally his; I think it was granted to dogs in the Magna Carta or something. I’ve always liked that you had the Opinel for that purpose. Like the Moras the Opinels are a great value.
Haha - that’s why Maggie is never far away from the chopping board! I might not collect knives, but I make up for it when it comes to stoves, tents, sleeping bags, tarps, pots, pans, lamps - in fact just about everything else outdoors related! 😂👍
Speaking as a tight-arse, I like the Hultafors Mora copy. Costs about a fiver. Good steel, similar plastic sheath. I've had mine for some years, with no problems.
I carry three knifes with me when I’m out in the woods , a Buck Ghost Rider folder , a T-61 Tracker made in Oklahoma & a 13 inch German Bowie that’s very old , my father found it in the woods when he was 14 like 57 years ago so who knows how old the knife is . I use the T-61 Tracker as my work horse , my Buck Ghost Rider folder for detailed work & my Bowie for protection , I also carry a CRKT Woods Chogan T- Hawk with me also . All in sheaths accept for the folder & all on one belt & I clip the folder on the inside of my pocket so I never lose it .
Another belting video Simon.Your reviews are great, always clear, well informed and unbiased. As a real newcomer to bush crafting,I have used your reviews as a guide to start to build up my basic kit and I really appreciate the tips on functional good quality gear that is available at an affordable price.Cannot believe how good the Mora knives are for the money.Just need restrictions to be lifted so I can get outside to use the stuff! Keep up the good work, best wishes Stuart
I usually try to find some cons to go along with the pros.. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxnkYCgssg4ZO858cyBdD1JPEaUJ9Up1C_ but it really is a good knife. The blade sits centered in the handle when closed (photo added). It opens effortlessly. Unlocks and closes easily with one hand. It’s a great size for EDC. I wish this exact knife came in one of the premium steels to satisfy the knife snob in me.. but it’s a great tool at a great price as it is. Would buy again.
A nice show and tell of your current bushcraft cutlery, Simon. Particularly helpful is your explanations of your evolution of needs to your present users.Thank you and all the best!
Good selection of all round all purpose knives Simon. Interesting to hear your comments as they're sound advice for beginners and up. Thanks for the tutorial mste. Bushyboy Oz.
I've always loved your knife philosophy. Tools not works of art. There are UA-camrs out there using knives that cost more than my first car. Not Simon, he's practical and realistic.
I watched knife making videos on UA-cam and started to make a few. I made a video on my (meagre) channel of a knife made from scratch. It felt like a bushcraft "right of passage" to make my own knife and I made a few for other oeople. Greetings from Suffolk... Great channel Simon.
Great video! Really informative. Its to be expected from you, though Simon, all of your videos are at such a high level of quality! I never get tired of watching any of your videos!!
Bushcrafters LOVE sheath knives. FEW UA-camrs can present them in the video media as well as you do here. THANKS. I have decades-old Micarta-handled knives. The handles still look fine and work fine. Those who wish to select vacuum-infused fine woods will not be disappointed. We did have to pay more and the natural wood grain can be lovely by firelight. These days, I prefer dangler loop belt fasteners. Should one take a tumble, the knife is more likely to stay 'out of harm's way.'
I hope you see this. But here in Tennessee when tent camping or tarp camping and there's wind I've found using foam ear plugs takes out the sounds that keep you awake or wake you up.
👏👏👏 great video. I am 'a knife guy' & you're spot-on with different knives for different purposes. Full tangs & wide spines for battening wood & splitting etc, finer knives for slicing the veggies and food prep. They're all great knives, the thing I like about Rob's design is the heel of the blade forms a 'stop' so your wet, cold, numb or slippery hand can't slip up the handle and expose your finger tendons to your blade edge 😬. It's why meat industry knives all have 'stops' on the handles...because cut tendons mean surgery🚑🚨.
Both Robs make beautiful knives and they are he two makers on the top of my wish list another is Kyle Noseworthy 2ho makes beautiful hammer forged knives as well as some nice neck knives I just bought a Bark River Northstar so it'll be a while before I can justify another purchase.......Yes I fell down the rabbit hole!
Hello Simon from the mountains of East TN . I recently got my first Mora I love it and as you said it is tough. It and the opinel are my favorite ones of all time. Thank you for taking the time to make videos always a pleasure to watch and learn
Very nice selection of fixed blades. I have that Mora with the fire steel in the handle in my get-home bag; great value. Recently got myself an Esee 4P for camp duties. Seems good so far.
4.22. Simon the plastic toggle on the Mora sheath is to allow you to hang another knife onto it. So for example you can have a combo heavy duty Mora and a fine carving one. If you look at the back of the sheath there's a circular hole in the belt clip that will fit over the toggle of a compatible sheath.
Knife People - Special People🤣! Me too... 💕Thanks Simon! 🤣🤣🤣... ( the best is legendary NR -40,NR -43 cherry , Even's knife and Yakut - 100% aaand all Mora knives ! )
Great idea to wrap the bicycle inner tube as emergency tinder, as well as the paracord around the Mora. I’ll pass that off as my own idea now! Cheers, mate!
The atmosphere to this video is absolutely astounding! That intro, the shot beginning with the toggles, honestly incredible. I'm uplifted after that video, lovely, Thank You. ATB Blake
Good video mate. I have a Hablis Bushmaster for my heavy work knife. An opinel for food prep and finally a and a real proper Swiss army knife for other bits.
That thar is some lovely knives u got there chap, you can never have too many sharp shiney objects :) I have only ever had 1 carbon steel mora, I snapped off the tip the first tme I used it and managed to break the blade battoning wood, I live by the sea so I'm stainless all the way now.
Hi Simon, I’m so jealous of your timber that lovely straight grained softwood (I’m in Australia hardwoods with curly grain) it’s always a pleasure to see you spit kindling with a knife. Thanks for the content.
Nice sweep of knives I have 4 too, starting out with a Gary Mills Timberwolf from the Bushcraft Store. Either 2010 or 2011 Carbon Steel. Can’t remember when I got it really. 2014 got a Mora safe point £9 then in 2020 got a Rob Evans Bushtool. Orange with black liners bearing steel. Then a Loz Harrop Hamon blade Camp knife, plus a Loz Harrop Bushcraft knife with a San Mai blade, brother to Zed Outdoors knife to rule all. Plus a inox Opinel Garden Knife No8 neck knife. For Food prep.
Great video Simon, have to say that Rob Evans knife looks good, it reminds me a little of one I bought from Finland many many years ago, in terms of the blade shape anyway, I lost it but I always loved that knife, nice to see something very similar. I also had a big knife, fantastic for the hard stuff but when it came to cutting the veg, well the mora steps in nicely, many thanks.
Thanks Simon for the pointed and very sharp review of your blades....be safe our informative bushcraft mentor👍👌. Mark+Diane Weisbeck Happydale Hudson Valley N.Y.
I'm a firm believer in any knife that rust is a good knife I have a hard time keeping stainless steel Sharp I prefer steel bladed knife that's just me though
Nice kit Simon, have the Mira HC steel and a few Opinel knives one since my teens and still great for food prep. Unfortunately we hardly have any woods in Malta so call for fire wood processing, but still a nice bit of kit.
Thank you for the great content. Your videos always help us to find proper gear for the job and we also love your cooking recipes. I just bought such a MORA knife for the summer family hikes and camping. Greetings from Hungary!

Can you do a beginners guide to canoeing? Water fees, canal vs river, types of craft, basic equipment we will need.

Very nice they are too Simon. Thank you for sharing.
I have one of rob Evan's knives it's a kephart style scandi grind with a nice leather sheath. His work is top notch

I keep thinking back to you making those beautiful paddles, what master craftmanship Simon!, you are so gifted.
Ahhh perfect I’ve been looking to get a new knife

Glad you could share your experience with the knife❤
Good selection of all round all purpose knives Simon. Interesting to hear your comments as they're sound advice for beginners and up. Thanks for the tutorial mste. Bushyboy Oz.
A good break down of each knife and info on the makers too, good stuff Simon, thanks 👍
I've always loved your knife philosophy. Tools not works of art. There are UA-camrs out there using knives that cost more than my first car. Not Simon, he's practical and realistic.
The TBS boar costs more than several cars that I’ve owned. 😄
I love Rob's work, I have to admit. One of his is on my wishlist.
Thank you , Simon .
🐺Loupis Canis .
I have a TBS boar and its brilliant, great for making stuff, use it when out on my kayak and for fishing, oh and mainly sticks for my daughter!
The Boar and the Robev Bushtool are sweet!

My favourite has to be the Rob Evens design, great for feathers. Mors tribute is the best design and on my wish list ,up on the top of my grail list
Great video! Really informative. Its to be expected from you, though Simon, all of your videos are at such a high level of quality! I never get tired of watching any of your videos!!
Thank you Simon, interesting to see the different types of "bushcraft knife" available.

Good point about the safety of dangler sheaths! Thanks James. 👍
Thanks for the video Simon , a man can’t have to many knives but my wife can say different 😊
I hope you see this. But here in Tennessee when tent camping or tarp camping and there's wind I've found using foam ear plugs takes out the sounds that keep you awake or wake you up.

Very nice selection of fixed blades. I have that Mora with the fire steel in the handle in my get-home bag; great value. Recently got myself an Esee 4P for camp duties. Seems good so far.
My Benchmade 162 is a lot like the TBS. Great heavy in the hand knife. Thanks for the info on the others.

Great thing about Moras, you can use them as good diving knives as well...
Nice collection Simon - I like the TBS Boar - although I don't have one. The Mora's cannot be beaten for value! ATB, Chris

Have you seen Zed & his “one knife to rule them all”??
Great video Simon, have to say that Rob Evans knife looks good, it reminds me a little of one I bought from Finland many many years ago, in terms of the blade shape anyway, I lost it but I always loved that knife, nice to see something very similar. I also had a big knife, fantastic for the hard stuff but when it came to cutting the veg, well the mora steps in nicely, many thanks.
The Rob Evans knife package is great for function and for form. The thinner blade and the double bevel add so much 'usability' to a knife.
I have 4 knives from Rob - all superb quality and craftsmanship - particularly love my Bushtool but his Mors Tribute is a lovely tool as well
Might have been a Puuko knife you had?
Rob makes exceptional knives! 👍👍
Beautiful set of knives!!✨
Great vid Simon
Evans bushtool is nice. Looks very similar to Garcia’s skookum bushtool inspired by Mors Kochansky.
Beautiful collection of useful knives.I love the exlanation of each one and their uses.
Thanks Simon for the pointed and very sharp review of your blades....be safe our informative bushcraft mentor👍👌.
