I laughed when I saw Pennsylvania as #1! They must be factoring in places like rural Lancaster County and areas west. And factoring out Philadelphia and its expensive collar counties!
I have lived all my life in suburban Philly and worked in Center City and there is nothing affordable about living here. How about that expensive Philly wage tax that you pay if you live and/or work in the city limits? So many of these affordable homes in the city are row homes or twin homes Crime is a real problem. Center City Philadelphia housing is not cheap.
Yes, we have history and all the sports, museums, universities and hospitals and are conveniently located to the Jersey shore points and NYC but anyone who reads this Kiplinger article and decides to move to PA should definitely first do some research.

For cryin' out loud, love! Lake Michigan to the east, Lake Superior to the north and over 10,000 lakes in Wisconsin. Hrab your beach towel and picnic basket and head to the Badger State! It's Illinois' best state park!

I almost fell off my chair when she talked about Wisconsin. A quick look at a map shows us the immense amount of shoreline along the GREAT LAKES! 🙄 And that doesn’t include all the other lakes.

Lived in Minnesota for 5 years. Here are my tips: It all depends on the town you pick or area in the TC. They are either amazing or they suck. very little in between. Pick carefully. People are amazing. Do spend a few weeks there in January to make sure you can handle the -40 before moving there.

Virginia is completely unaffordable, particularly northern VA. Even smaller cities like Richmond or Roanoke or Newport News or Norfolk are become unaffordable. The average home price in my city in VA is $757k.

The White Horse Tavern in Newport - is AMAZING!!! I highly recommend! Actually there are tons of amazing restaurants in Newport. Living in northern Jersey it is a quick drive to beautiful Newport!

Wisconsin has over 800 miles of coastline on the Great Lakes. Not near any lakes?

Great video, except I have to disagree with your comment regarding Wisconsin's lack of beaches, lakes, and other bodies of water, hence the need for the large number of water parks. Did you not notice that Wisconsin borders both Lake Superior and Lake Michigan as well as the Mississippi River? Not really important, I know, but when you made that statement, I started shaking my head.

Yep, California has got to do better. Our once great state is on the verge of collapse. The beautiful weather can’t save us. There are so many great places in this country; I hope you find one that’s perfect for you and your family.

Save yourself and your family from CA. My brother relocated from CA to ND, and he does not regret it at all! He loves the cold winters, though. If you don't like cold winters, there are other states that are amazing!

Um are you aware that Wisconsin is literally called America’s Third Coast bc of the hundreds of miles of gorgeous lakefront coastline?! We’re bordered by two Great Lakes. 🙄

PA is deceiving. The East Coast (Philadelphia side) Is very expensive. It is very cheap in Central and Western PA which creates skewed metrics. I live in Berks County on the East Side and a 1 bedroom is $1600 😢

Just wanted to point out that Wisconsin has Lake Michigan and Lake Superior. Check out Apostle Islands. If it's anything like Michigan it should have nice beaches on Great Lakes. Great Lakes: Unsalted and Shark Free. 😁

As a resident of the South/North Dakota border for 30 years - I can attest to the long, frigid, snowy winters. Starts in October, ends in early May. 4-wheel drive vehicles are a must-have, as is reliable snow removal, whether you DIY or have a service.
Average snowfall per year 84 inches, and lots of wind to move that snow around. You can go to bed with a clear driveway, the wind blows, and lo and behold, you've got 4 foot drifts covering your drive yet again.
Cold temperatures are next level, straight temps of 30 below zero (with a wind chill, even more brutal) and there's always wind.
But...acres of land within a 30 minute commute of your town are still quite affordable, as is housing in general. Folks take great pride in the upkeep of their properties, and crime is basically non-existent.
Also, the friendliness of folks, and willingness to help a stranger are legendary. Pull over on the road, and chances are, the next vehicle will stop and ask you if you need help - a spirit of, "We know nature/weather can be brutal, and we're all in this together!"
All in all, a great place to live, but you MUST be able to stand the COLD!
As for myself, moved about 300 miles south, and the "winters" here barely exist in contrast to the Dakotas. But, I could/would move back again!
