Hey Brian. I'm choosing between A7CII and ZV-E1 as well and reviewed your previous vids. Do you know how dynamic stabilization works? Seems like it's just a 1.3-1.5 digital crop that makes ZV-E1 kinda APSC-camera with this stab on - just my assumption. If it is basically it's kinda ACII in APCS mode?? Taking into account that they improved active stab in ACII based on yesterday's vids shared I think it's enough for vlogging maybe not for shooting action but who need this one for that same as ZV-E1. Yeah, I know rolling shutter and low light performance is better in ZV-E1 but it feels like A7CII is enough for everything a vlogger/traveler wants from a video side perspective + better for photos. This is tough) I'm curios what do you think about that and if you are going to save your zv-e1 or switch to A7CII. Also, I know it's pricy but I have feeling that need to have both A7CII and ZV-E1 ;) However if choose only one what do you think?

@@sergiypervun fantastic, thorough, and difficult question... Well short answer, I just pre-ordered the A7Cii, but I'm not sure if I'm going to cancel the order before it ships. I'm also not sure if I need both...
That being said, yes the active stabilization in the A7Cii looks much improved which is nice and having a proper crop mode is good as well. Yet, having the clear image zoom (with the zoom rocker) is almost preferable but again this feature is better for video like every thing else in the zve1 except sharpness. How I think dynamic stabilization works is very much how catalyst browse works but in real time (which is technically amazing) but to save processing power it uses a maximum crop to hide its gyroscopic stability whether or not the movement dictates it.
My ideal scenario is I have both cameras to compare them and after some heavy usage decide then, which is likely what I will do.
I am however constantly surprised by how much I use and love the zve1, but I've been pining for the A7Cii for so long that I think it's going to be a close contest...

I'm with you 100% - The ZV-E1 does lack some things, but most of its shortcomings have workarounds. For a travel cam, the dynamic stabilization makes it much more usable than the other offerings. Based on the 6700 and rumored A7cii not having it, I'm thinking this will stay a Z/F only feature going forward. I used the EVF on my A7Siii a lot and missed it once I got the FX3 which I love...but the dynamic stability makes the ZVE1 better as a travel cam. I was hoping the A7Cii would have it so it would easily become the best hybrid camera for me. Average viewers don't care about dynamic range, dual iso, breathing comp, desqueeze, downsampling, log, etc...but they all know shaky video when they see it. ZVE1 is my video camera of choice until something better comes along with dynamic stabilization

    • @BrianCatalano

You summed that up perfectly... and think you are right on all those points!
I am still holding out hope for a surprise, and they put DAS in the A7Cii, but it does seem less likely as we get closer to the announcement.
Maybe they should make an A7CS and put that 7s3 sensor in the A7C body, so we get the range finder style EVF (kidding, sort of) and dynamic stabilization!
Until then, I am content with the zve1...

Great video as always. I don't need a lot of video functions on the zv-e1, but dynamic active stabilization is the one I absolutely need (I want it on my a7R5 too!), like me many other ppl, and that's why Sony may decide not to give it to us. ZV-e1's sales could go plummeting. Sure, if they don't, even though it's just, basically, a crop with a little processing, they may face some backlash, but they did something even worse, not updating the a1, and in the end nothing happened, since we're all stuck in their great lens ecosystem.
P.s. Sorry to see you're still at 2k followers, but it's also very clear to me you're gonna have 200k someday, since your channel is already on par with way bigger channels when it comes to quality, so pls keep going, it's just a matter of time

First off, I really appreciate that last note as I love making these videos, in spite of them being way more difficult than they should be, because I hope that as I'm learning I can help others learn too... So your comment gives me more motivation to keep going than I can express, so thank you, truly!!
Next, I completely agree with you... Sony loves recycling and mix and matching features, so you have to keep upgrading or buying multiple bodies to get all the new features, even though they could easily put them into new models or update older ones. If I bought an A1 I'd be pissed and probably would have sold it already. I don't understand that logic...
And you may be right that if they put dynamic stabilization in the A7Cii, it may tank sales of the zve1. This is why I presumed the A7Cii wouldn't be announced at least until October to ship in November to give the zve1 time to build a base, so it's surprising that they will have launched so close together. The zve1 has merits on its own and I can see a place for both of them, so I'm hoping we get dynamic stabilization in all future Sonys but I'm not holding my breath!

However, I recently used the A7C on deployment along with A6600. Documenting video of events and training with the A7C worked well because of catalyst browse. The a6600 isn't compatible with sony's catalyst browse so I reduced it to photos only.

I don't think it will have it. The 33MP sensor has too much information for the processor to handle. There is something special about that 12MP sensor. The FX3 is my FAVORITE camera for both stills and video. The mechanical shutter is seriously the best out of any camera I have ever used. If you only shoot for social media (most people) then 12MP is more than enough! My ideal camera would be the A7Cii with the 12MP sensor because I do like the rangefinder style EVF. If the ZV-E1 had an EVF - even if it was sold separately as a hotshoe mount - it would be the perfect camera.

However, a friend of mine just showed me how good the a6700s active stabilization is, and it's pretty close to dynamic, so that's worth looking into as I know you are already familiar with that sensor. It's possible that the A7Cii could have a much improved active stabe along those lines which could make me reconsider as well. I love the zve1 but was hoping to have a bit more MPs as a travel hybrid solution. Would you sell your a74 if you scooped up the A7Cii or CR... And I can't believe people haven't brought your zve1 yet? I also haven't had much luck selling my A7C even though I've slashed the price numerous times. Fingers crossed...
Either way, get off UA-cam and enjoy the wild horses or Mongolia!!

@BrianCatalano looool, I came back to Korea a day ago! Amd yeah, no one has purchased it yet:( Someone will buy it, eventually, or I'll just have to use it in Korean, haha. My A74 is the only camera I have that can't be touched. I live that thing, as I've become so comfortable using it and it hasn't failed me yet. It is why I'm hoping the A7cII will be similar to the megapixels of the A74. Guess we will see next week!!

Have you used the a6700? It's active stabilization is a quite a bit better than the a7c. So you may not even need the dynamic. I was pleasantly surprised by the a6700 active stabilization. I don't vlog, but I shoot sports, and I want the movements to be smooth and so far I am not wishing for better. I think a lot of video shooters are sleeping on the a6700. It has the AI features that the fx30 is missing, with the same video quality. Rent the a6700 and see if you don't agree...

Ha ha... I know, sounds ludicrous!! But seriously, since I picked up the ZV-E1 as my new travel camera, I'm actually at the airport now with it, and saw for myself the difference between dynamic stabilization and just active, it's hard to consider going back. It is seriously going to be a difficult choice. Yet, I will get my hands on it so I can review it, but I may end up not owning--something I wouldn't have been able to even conceive of last year!
What a difference a year makes... Honestly, thank you for your support, and I think you're probably one video away from 1k!! The only thing I learned about UA-cam in that time is that my videos that do best are the ones where I started with the thumbnail before I even pressed record!

@@erg1450 yes, same for me! I think Sony Alpha Rumors suggested that the A7CR would only have the flip out screen unlike the A7rV, but who knows...and that's the one I am most curious about regarding the price.
