Hey, that looks like the TV I watched Saturday morning cartoons on as a kid. From Wacky Races to wacky electronics in 50 years.
I still have the tv I grew up with in the 70s. It was my grandmother's 1968 Telefunken, which happened to be the first color tv in our neighborhood (I live in Germany, where color tv took off in the late 60s). When there were important soccer games, random strangers from the block asked my granny whether they could watch the game on her color set... And my grandfather just answered from the background "bring beer!"

My gosh! My grandmother had one of these in her bedroom for years! It even had roll around stand that came with it. I swear it just like one she had!
Hi Shango,Hope you and yours have a happy holiday weekend. It’s hard to believe this was a decade ago! Where does the time go? The camera and video quality have sure come a long way during that time. I think it’s great that you’re still doing these repairs and helping to preserve these vintage televisions and electronic items. It’s nice that this set is actually in use and being watched and enjoyed as it was when it was new. The owner must move this tv around a lot because it has broken pieces of plastic here and there that it didn’t have in the first video! Hopefully it will still be playing another decade from now! Keep up to good work!
The only thing keeping that set playing as well as it has for as long as it has was the cross glued to the front. Likely anointed by a priest or a reverend.

There’s an article called “aura of the era” about vintage televisions that features an interview with Shango as well as other big players in the vintage tv restoration hobby. He’s been doing this a long time and I too really appreciate all the videos,such as the one with Al talking about tubes as well as the trips to some of the last radio and tv service shops. I’m glad these places and people were documented for posterity. I also enjoyed videos where he would save other vintage items,like the lawn equipment,etc. since I collect all sorts of things from the 50’s and 60’s.
There’s nothing but garbage on television these days. It’s nice to know there’s always something interesting and educational to watch because of guys him.

watch it. That cross on it originally meant it was " powered by Jesus" ! Now it's repowered by Shango.

This set reminds me of the one I used to watch Bob Wilkins and Creature Features on, late at night in the late 60s. KCRA in Sacramento was one of the few channels we could even get. I don't think I ever owned a color set until the late 70s. BW sets this size were easy to come by in the 60s as lots of folks switched to LIVING color. If it broke, and you couldn't fix it by taking all the tubes down to the tube tester at the grocery store, then you could find another one cheaper than having it fixed.
Use to a set wasn't considered a good TV unless it lasted 20 years and a failure if it died within five....nowadays if you get five you've lucked out. For a 56-57 year old set whose life expectation was 5- 7 years (from the factory) I'd say its done pretty good.
Now to the cleaning: It's a shame they've all but outlawed R-500 as a cleaning agent (the same thing NASA used to wash down the shuttles with) .... we used it at T I and works wonders. Concerning that board: I know this set IS NOT WORTH THE EFFORT but... couldn't one 'photo copy' that board and etch a new one? Just something to consider in future restores & projects...

My Japanese set Sanyo lasted over than 36 years with no repair needed until I trashed it in 2018. Mt Zenith Shortwave radio needs service, this set made in USA and very expensive in 1960!

I have a 1965 Neckermann portable Trasistorised TV (Art. Nr. 837/05), that initially couldn't lock sync either horizontally or vertically and it took me a while to find out that it was because of an open 1uF FOX electrolytic cap, causing the Sync seperator transistor to not get sync at all.
Said TV was a German rebrand of a Japan made TV by YAOU/General and it was rebranded in the US as the Philco N1052 and Q1054 (the former lacking UHF, while the latter has it like the Neckermann).

I hate working on those old Sylvania sets. In addition to crappy PC boards, the tube sockets they used were made out of some kind of soft plastic that turned in to crumbs from vacuum tube heat. Left would be only the tube pins standing up in the PC board without any material between them. Terrible sets.

I saved a Panasonic AG-520c Monitor/recorder. From early 80s, tubes still clear, matched the model number to find the remote on eBay.
This looks 👀 a little Chinese-Y, with all the plastic, but it also looks very retro. Never 👎 knew they made plastic TV’s 📺 for 1965. This is almost 😅 like 👍 a Walmart TV 📺, in a way, but much better. I’m sort of surprised that this TV 📺 is solid state, but 1965 is about when the transition from tube type to solid state started ⭐️. Your friend, Jeff.

I can remember when Obama shut off analog forever. I was paying 15 dollars a month on direcTV to receive my locals. I was watching 9&10 news on the morning they pressed "the button" and my screen went black. It stayed like that for months while they cared less to keep charging me 15 dollars a month to have blank nothing. I had spent months helping friends that had antenna's to get the free gubment free digital boxes and fix their wiring to be able to decode DTV had no issues when they were standing in the transmission room at the studio with a reporter didn't know a thing about what was going on when the engineer walked up to a huge panel talking about this is the analog system and the director of the show counted down to zero when he pressed a button. Everyone I know that wasn't paying a dime watched what happened next but to this day I couldn't even catch the weather report for the day along with every DirecTV customer including my boss had us building an electrical service during a rain storm.
