  • Ukrainian special forces destroyed Russian radar worth $125m with HIMARS. Elite units posted drone footage documenting their kills of Zoopark-1 radar. The Soviet system is designed to detect incoming enemy artillery fire and pinpoint the guns that fired the shells so they can be destroyed. However, the radar themselves were targeted by precision rockets. With footage showing five of them being blown up by Ukrainian HIMARS. Such radar systems are expensive to build, and difficult to replace. Taking them out helps level the playing field between Russia and Ukraine.

    Going to signal boost @HudsoniteJessie:
Those tungsten balls are absolutely devastating. I was a military vehicle technician. A vehicle peppered by HIMARS ends up what we call BER - Beyond Economical Repair. Everything is turned to Swiss cheese including the frame, engine block, axles, leaving almost nothing even salvageable for parts.

Its not the only threat they start. At least as big is the muslim threat. Let Dagestan together with Checnya leave the RF while Aserbaidschan with Turkeys support invades Armenia. They would get support from muslim world and this would inflame the whole Kaukasus. Right now Russia is far weaker than TUrkey /Aserbaidschan and it knows it. Putin might be the death of Russian Federation in total. China and Aserbaidschan/TUrkey are their real enemies that want their territory but he is blinded by his idea of Russia as the European hegemon ruling whole Europe.

Russia is still losing Artillery at a rate of around 30 per day, which is far more than they make per month, and Western Artillery is more precise and can fire further. Russia won't be in the Artillery game once their current stock gets cooked off. How long will that be? Six months? A year? I doubt it can last 2.years. ppl say there were misses, but fragments damage fragile electronics, the same with warplanes and helicopters, they can look fine on low resolution video but being still not operable, the same way air to air or ground to air missiles have fragmentation warheads which aren't supposed to hit plane directly, they usually explode somewhere nearby damaging fragile electronics, fuel pipes, wires etc

Yep, Ukraine is making great use of soon-to-be-replaced ATACMS cluster munitions: 950 bomblets in the warhead, each the size of a hand grenade are very effective against thin-skinned aircraft, radar, and missiles. And there are around 3000 ATACMS of all variants available gradually to Ukraine. The longer-range ones with the unitary warhead no doubt will be deployed against the Kerch bridge in the coming months.

These look like Zoopark's, of which Russia has only a few, esp since 6 or so have already been destroyed. Taking these out degrades Russia's counterbattery capabilities. Meaning it makes it much harder for Russia to destroy ukrainian guns. Russia has more guns but Ukraine has been targeting them with priority, just about levelling the playing field. Without counterbattery capabilities, the Russians get hit but can't hit back. TL;DR - taking these out is a huge step towards winning.

The way Zoopark-1 works is that it helps locate where missiles and artillery rounds came from, allowing Russians to counterstrike those areas. It's not designed to offer any form of defense against missiles so having them taken out doesn't prove that they don't work. These are important targets for the Ukrainians to destroy, so the Russians can't find and destroy their artillery/HIMARS.

fragments damage fragile electronics, the same with warplanes and helicopters, they can look fine on low resolution video but being still not operable, the same way air to air or ground to air missiles have fragmentation warheads which aren't supposed to hit plane directly, they usually explode somewhere nearby damaging fragile electronics, fuel pipes, wires etc
