This is actually the darkest final boss theme of the classic series. The first two were war themes, the last was the chaotic nature of the Death Egg, this is a maniacal Robotnik with absolutely no restraint utilizing the full of his capabilities against solely Sonic. No chaos emeralds, no Death Egg, no Master Emerald. Just machines are an unstable wormhole generating artifact.
This is Classic Eggman gone completely mad with power, and as utterly enraged as it's possible for a mere human to get and not turn into something far worse... Sonic had every reason to be scared out of his mind, knowing that failing didn't simply mean death this time...
Man, this is so intense that my sound card nearly stoped working :D Like really, i'm not kidding. But after i did few manipulations to it, it started to work again.
